Customer reviews for Karavan 6' x 10' Utility Trailer forGreat trailer for the $$$
I've only had this trailer for about 12 hours. Picked it up today in Cookeville, TN. Loaded it up with about 1000lbs of concrete bags, and drove it home (interstate and gravel roads). Pulled like it wasn't even there. Some observations: 1) The "safety chains" are plastic coated coiled steel wire (maybe 3/16" thick). They're woefully short. They'll work so long as your ball is not more than 10" or so from the hook points on your receiver. If you're using any kind of adapter (drop/rise or extender) you'll need to get safety chain extenders. 2) The tailgate/ramp is rather short, so if you're loading on flat ground, the angle will be quite steep. I had no issue getting my 2017 Kawasaki Tyrex 4 up onto the trailer (though the UTV is about 1/2" longer than the bed of the trailer with the ramp closed) It fit, but the UTV was wedged tightly. Trying to get my 42" zero-turn John Deere mower up on the ramp was a different story. It made it about 3/4 of the way up, but then the back of the mowing deck snagged on the very top of the ramp. The deck was set to its highest position (4" up). Loading with the ramp on a slight inclined ground should resolve this issue. 3) The wiring harness (4-pin flat) was too short to reach the factory connector on my receiver. The manager (aka "coach") said, "no problem, these pull out" as he yanked on the wiring. Sure enough, about another 18" of wiring harness came out of the frame/tubing. However, that extended portion was not encased in the ribbed black wiring loom. It also didn't pull back into the frame. The concern there is exposure to UV lighting and rodents. Nit-picky, but still. Also, by the time I made it home, the plug had worked itself loose from the receiver, so even with the excess cable pulled out, it was still too short for certain turns. 4) One of the three bulbs in the rear-center marker lighting assembly is burned out. I didn't check at the Sam's parking lot (short on time). The Karavan website lists the assembly as submersible, so I don't know if the bulb is replaceable. The side marker lights are LED, but I think these are actual incandescent (filament) bulbs. 5) The hinged side rails do not drop flat against the side of the trailer. The can't due to the tire interfering with the travel. Still, you can step over the lowered rail, and have your legs right up against the bed frame. This makes lifting heavy items (i.e. 80lb. bags of concrete) much easier than trying to lift them over an immovable railing. But, with the rail not dropping straight down, it would prevent a forklift or other vehicle from getting any closer than about 18" from the frame edge of the trailer bed. 6) While the trailer is legally titled at 2990 lbs GVWR, the tire and axle combination is just over 3600lbs. The sub-3000lb. rating is advertised as the max due to state laws which require trailer brakes if the weights exceed 3000lbs. Thus, you physically/mechanically carry 20% more than the rated nameplate capacity. 7) When backing, this trailer has a very quick/sensitive cut performance. I don't know if that's due to the shorter tongue, but even the slightest input will cause the trailer to dart off of the center line - much more than any trailer I've used in the past. It's not difficult to back up, but it does take some getting used to. If you get this trailer, make sure you get a good hitch lock - both for when connected to a tow vehicle, and when it's sitting unattached. In just two stops at various hardware stores, I had several people inspecting the trailer as I came back from the store. They were very interested where I got it, and how I liked it. I can only imagine that it would grow some legs pretty quickly if unsecured.
Super Trailer!
PRO : I've only had this trailer for 4 months or so. But, so far, I love it. Excellent design/features/style/tracking. I also love that this is NOT a poorly painted "black, sticky, cheap, ugly, paint job" CON : I have been trying to contact Karavan or SAM's to purchase a spare tire and for the paint color code (so I will be able to "touch up") I can't get "ANY" response from either party - Karavan's site doesn't even acknowledge the existence of this trailer. I'd guess Sam's is really making sure this is a private label for specifically them. Doesn't help me though, with what I think are two really simply issues/questions. That said, I absolutely love this trailer, esp: for the price...I checked multiple dealers around here for a better deal and was unable to improve my "position."
Quality trailer
Looked at many trailers before buying this one. Not a wimpy trailer. Called manufacturer, no manual comes with trailer. Manufacturer has a generic one you can down load. So far only one complaint. I have a 60” zero turn, had to make a two foot extension on ramp in order to load mower. (Manufacture trying to save a dime) Trailer weighs enough so that it doesn't bounce to bad going down road empty. Would buy again, and give it five stars if the ramp was longer.
Looks Good for the Price
It is a good trailer and looks really nice. The plug needs to be redesigned. It is way too loose at the connection to the vehicle. I didn't even make it home yesterday from the store without the plug coming loose and dragging on the road. It was ruined. I was highly disappointed. I hope it is covered under warranty. Everything else on the trailer works great. Love the fold down side rails.
Very Handy
I bought 1 about 2 years ago and I love it! It hauls great full or empty. I love how all the sides will lay down making it easier to load and move stuff around. The wood flooring is nice and will last a lot longer than a metal grated one. I have carried two 4 wheelers with a little extra space. One set back is the loading gate. If you haul something with all the sides down the gate has to be removed. I had to do it twice but I put the gate on the trailer and strapped it down before I put whatever I was carrying on it. All and all it is a very handy and useful trailer!
Love this trailer! Awesome Value!
First thing that caught my eye with this trailer was the price for a 6'x10'. Wooden floor, decent size rear gate, I'm impressed by the value. Then I saw the side rails can be lowered or removed for easy loading! This trailer tows great as well. The problem with most utility trailers is they bang around when empty and tow like crap, not the case with the Karavan, the magic they put into it really does work. Again, you can't beat this trailer for the money. Only Con worth mentioning is there's no tie downs on this trailer. Not too much of an issue for me as I kinda liked being able to install some where I would be using them. I'm actually in the process of building a removable camper body that can be pulled on/off this trailer, and with the removable sides/gate this is going to be the perfect platform.
not as expected
I have had the trailer now 2 years. The Toung started bubbling with rust under the paint. the trailer is on its second set of tires in less than 3000 miles they are wearing terrible. I haul a 900lb lawn mower on it that's all, The gate has already bent and the grating has broke. I will not buy another one of these!
Karavan trailer
About this trailer from Sam's warehouse today, drove an hour home, just to notice that the fender was broke when I got home. My fault I should have checked it out thoroughly at Sam's. Took it back to Sam's they exchanged it for another trailer. I looked at 5 trailers and every trailer was scratched up on the same fender on everyone I got the worst one being broke. And you could tell it was in the delivery process to Sam's where were stacked on the truck. Even the employees were astonished. and where they had scratched it up unloading the the trailers from the truck had rust on metal where it scratch the paint. Bought the trailer anyway the best out of 5 . Because I like the mechanics design on this trailer real well.I don't think the plastic fenders will last a very long time especially out in the weather. But the design of the trailer was well-executed.
Ramp to steep for a mower
I bought this utility trailer a week ago and had to return it today. The quality of it is good for loading and hauling supplies only. Everything they advertise is correct. The only down side for us is that We bought this utility trailer to transport our riding lawn mowers between our properties and to take to get service etc. The default we ran into is when I went to load my lawn mower today for the first time it was then when I noticed the ramp/ gate in the back was very steep. I pretty much not expecting this almost fell backwards on my riding mower. There is no way you can ride a mower up there without an accident. The gate needs to be longer. Because I really liked this trailer I contacted the manufacturer (NOT SAM'S) to see if they could help me. The guy representing Karavan was extremely rude and must have had tons of calls about this error because before I could basically explain he knew exactly what I was talking about. He said “you get what you pay for and that's how it is” very rude! he said the only suggestion he had was to put a 4x4 board under the ramp and keep it moving. The people at Sam's was very nice and understanding and refunded me for my purchase. I just wished it was different but I can't risk an accident getting hurt or having to do an extra step to get my lawn mower on a utility trailer that has a ramp. It defeats the purpose and he said I got what I paid for but this was an expensive piece of equipment to talk to a customer in the tone And attitude he gave.

Very Pleased So Far
Well-built utility trailer with nice features. Was so quiet and easy to tow, taking it home for the first time I had to keep looking back to make sure it was still there. Double the deck space of my old 4 x 8 foot trailer, far more solid, and much easier to load / unload. The front, back, and side rails fold down, or can easily be completely removed. Welds are done right. Manufactured in Fox Lake, Wisconsin.
