Enjoying new features and compact size.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have enjoyed using different Food Savers models for years. When it needs replacing after using it to it's last seal, the new features we find when shopping for a new model show that they are always improving upon the original like attached hand held sealer. We were without one while waiting for our order to arrive and it just emphasized how lost we feel without the ability to seal our food.

This product is sub par to previous year model

I purchased after owning a 4400 for 5 years and the 5460 could not even seal the bag correctly if there was even the slightest amount of liquid in what I was sealing. The solution per the company is to freeze before sealing. That solution is so time consuming that it makes using this product a waste.

Do Not Like This System

I personal don't like this system because I believe it's a lot more work to seal a bag and to vacuum seaal. First. you have to turn a knob to seal a bag, second, after you make a bag, then you have to pull the next bag out and sometimes this is difficult to do and then you have to push in on the 2 sides to start the system to vacuum seal,.and finally the bulky design of the system makes it a little more difficult to vacuum seal. I am going to give this system to a friend and purchase the 5800 system which is more the traditional design and shape.

Great features! Easy to use!

I bought this a month ago and immediately stocked the freezer. I had the older model for along time but the upgrade is so much better with the bag storage and bag maker. Also have the attachment on the machine makes it so much easier. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for money saving great solution for there kitchen needs. (Or more works great on other handy little household items)

Nice with a few exceptions

Love Food Saver & hated that our old one, a Food Saver Pro, quit working properly. With the help of a Food Saver advisor we ordered the FM5460. Needed one that wasn't too tall to fit in my cabinet. I like the additional features, like the integrated hand held sealer (which I've yet to use), but I find the 2 handed operation to begin the sealing process to be less than ideal. Also, it defaults to dry so every time I have to change setting to moist. The sealing process itself seems to take a much longer time than my previous one. We seal a lot of meat so having a sealer is a necessity.....just find myself wishing my old one hadn't died.

it's better then i thought it would be

after reading other reviews i was worried about it taking 3 or 4 hands to work it. i was vary impressed with how fast it made bags from rolls. and vacuum sealing was easy just get the bag in the center of the window . hit the bar/button and the lid comes down by itself and holds the bag tight.

Not user friendly

You need another set of hands to operate this machine. The bag has to be hanging in the drip tray, so you need to hold it there while closing the cover and then you have to push the bar to start the vacuum. If it moves whiles you're doing all this it doesn't suck the air out and you have to start over. Get one with the automatic bag detection, because this one is not user friendly.

Money Saver

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Jar attachment is the bomb, we go to the big box store and buy bulk dry goods, sugar, flour, cereals, fill up jars and put them in the pantry, no waste. The same with meat, buy in bulk, vacuum seal in meal size portions. Freeze soups in silicon bowls, pop out of bowls, vacuum seal for use later. No Waste !

Not that great

I only bought this model becaus my 5860 quit working and was having terrible and difficult time with the sloppy customer service. Finally got the approval for my 5860 to be replaced after 2 1/2 weeks and waited 9 days for the new oone. This 5460 can be a pain to operate and you do need 2 free hands and I only have 1/2 use of my left hand due to nerve damage and I use the machine many times a day
