I so wanted to love this machine. I've had it a couple weeks now and have not found it as easy to use as I'd hoped. At least 30% of the time when I press with my thumbs on the bar that is supposed to activate the vacuum nothing happens and when I let up the bag falls out and I have to start all over again. I am also finding that many times the machine will vacuum but never stop and seal, which I have to try again, or seal manually, allowing some air to escape. When I can get it to work right, it's great. I use it to create single portion meals for the week for myself. I just wish it would activate more easily, and would finish sealing after vacuuming more often.

So far we really like it. This one was to replace a 15-20 year old food saver that we really liked but it just stopped working so we purchased a new one Why mess with an imitation I know how much money I save buying large packages of various meats and freezing them in small packages. This new Food Saver fits the bill.

I have had an earlier generation FoodSaver (I think it was a V3880) for 5 or 6 years, needed to replace it as the marinate/accessory system was getting weak. I really like the improvements this model has, it's quieter and the sealing the one side of the next bag is a longer overdue feature. The feeding of the loaded bag is much improved. Great machine.

Our 5800 unit had an issue with the rollers in the bag making so replaced it with this simpler design. Bit more work to seal but OK, not so much to break. This is our fourth (maybe 5th) Foodsaver in over 30 years, hand-me-downed tothe kids when we upgraded. This is the first time we’ve had to replace due to a broken part. Great saver of food and money on food, we will always have a Foodsaver in the house.

My previous Food Saver that i had for 2 years finally wore out! I use it just about every day!! I ordered the newer model and was so excited to receive it and resume saving food & money again. I also received bonus containers & ordered extra items. There's not enough time to give examples of what I used my machine for. Being single for some time I no longer cook for large family, but buying things in bulk, portioning servings and vacuum sealing is just awesome. Protecting important documents, sealing cooker meals to take camping are just a few examples. It compliments my other kitchen gadgets!!

It sucks,even my neighbor agrees. Wanted one of the flat design, you sent me this so called update, I wanted one of the flat ones, had couple of those, this so called new design really sucks, Twice as long to operate when it works, Had a couple of friends try it they couldn't get it to work on a regular bases, something wrong with the electronics. Never again

Over the last 30 years I have bought the next up grade to the Food Savers systems. Living in Alaska and being a fishing family we have vacuum sealed and frozen many a fish. I bought this new Food Preservation system because of the new feature of having the next bag sealed. I have found that I don't waste as much bag material as before and it is quicker having the next bag sealed already. I love the feature of the manual vacuum, I now feel like I can vacuum pack soft items without having them crushed. I would recommend this product and looking forward to experimenting with the marinating feature.

The bag holder/dispenser is a great feature and my observation is the vacuum part is more powerful getting a more complete vacuum. I sous vide so getting more air out means items are more likely to be submerged when cooking. If you sous vide, buy up a price level or two, you won't regret it.

I recently purchased this unit to replace my older one as I was tired of wasting bag material and this unit offered to save me that waste. After having this one for almost a month, I can honestly say that it does what I needed/wanted it to do. I can customize the bag size to more accurately accommodate what I'm sealing without the wasted bag material of previous models. If you're tired of wasting bag material, this is the unit you need.
