Useless
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had it about a month now and it's singly the worst dishwasher I have ever used, let alone owned. It doesn't wash well whatsoever. It's gotten to where it I have to basically almost handwash dishes before I use the dishwasher. It goes through rinse agent like it was going out of style. Often times the loads come out worse than they went in, often feeling gritty and covered with film. Even running half a load give the same results. It constantly throws gunk onto the dishes, and often bakes on things (like milk and soup) that should be easily washed. Top flat-rack stops water from uppermost sprinkler head from doing what it's supposed to.

Preforms Well
I enjoy the quiet cycles and the way everything comes out very clean and dry. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating, is that the bottom tray occasionally comes off the track when moving it out. It is very easy to put it back on the track, but it seems as though it should not do this, especially when it is new.
Excellent Dishwasher with one exception
I'll make this short and to the point. It's a great dishwasher. It does a great job of cleaning dishes, and I've found the right setting to keep the wash and dry time to well under 2 hours. It's quiet, the heater is contained so no exposed coils, and the filter is easy to remove and clean. The ONLY thing that frustrates me is the lower rack. It doesn't stay straight and comes off its track often. Other than that, it is a winner.

Not a good product.
Starting receiving an HE error code after 2 years and now it will only work on the turbo mode. This dishwasher has the heater element integrated to the motor which is ridiculous. No warranty for this large and expensive component and my only choices are to either pay more money than it's worth to have a tech. look at the product or repair it myself. I have all LG appliances and the displays on the oven and microwave stopped working at the 1.5 year mark. I have already had to replace the oven heating element myself. These products are junk and generally more expensive to pay someone to fix than to repair myself.
Hello there! Thank you for sharing your experience with the LDFN4542S dishwasher. We understand the HE error code and the limitations you’re facing with the appliance. It’s understandably frustrating when a product doesn’t perform as expected, especially after only two years of use. We recognize that having the heating element integrated with the motor can complicate repairs, and it’s disappointing to hear that you’ve had similar issues with other LG appliances. Your feedback regarding the reliability of our products is important, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. You can contact us via private message @LGUSSupport, and we’ll do our best to help you find a resolution or explore your options. -Junel
Great clean but has flaws
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would have given 5 stars as the dishwasher does a great job cleaning the dishes. Unfortunately, and it's my fault for not reading the description more thoroughly, the dishwasher is an an inch shorter then any other dishwasher I have seen. I had to build my floor up to prevent a large gap at the top. It does effect loading it if you use tall glassware and anything tall on the bottom rack. Also the wheel design for the lower rack is horrible. It always rolls off the track it should ride on.
Sleek and Black
I have used the dishwasher only a few times. It replaced an older version that needed a new pump. I chose the old one because it loaded my cereal bowls, plates, and pasta bowls so well. The new one looks, from the outside, just like the first. However, there are differences which I do not like as well. The tines holding plates and bowls on lower shelf are not dog legged. Or they do not notch in at bottom to accept outside curve of plate or pasta bowl. Therefore, they do not stand straight up but like to lean on the one next to them. This causes rinsing not to be as effective and sometimes depositing and leaving food on the plate or bowl. It seems LG took a step backward. Also it seems to leave dishes wetter than the older model. I have found it works better when I do not use “energy saver” and do dishes early enough to open the door after the “end” comes on after the cycle. Almost everything is dry by morning when I unload it. I used the “auto” setting once, but my dishes were not clean. I went back to “normal”. I don’t really use the top shallow shelf right now. Maybe in the future. I am a person who does not put pans, large anything, large knives, wooden handles or utensils in the dishwasher. So, I do not know how they do. This is a black dishwasher which was my deciding factor.
Disappointed
I just purchased this dishwasher and wish I would have kept the one I had that was 15 years old. This dishwasher takes several hours to wash a load. Also, dishes come out extremely wet, not to mention, what about mold growing inside if everything remains wet. My older washer ran a complete load in 48 minutes, plus dishes came out very dry and hot. No water was left inside my older dishwasher.

Cleans well, average noise level
I bought this brand/model because it was on sale and closer to reasonable price than most. It has the 3rd top rack which is nice, but I need more space for small pet bowls and the bottom rack is best for large utensils. Not quite what I wanted. Front controls are so sensitive the machine turns on while I am working on the counter above it. Did not have that issue with a previous front control machine I used for many years.

Have had this dishwasher 3 years. The door latch error keeps popping up so the dishwasher will not start. After talking to a LG repair person this is a common issue with the LG product. Also the top rack has rust from where some of the plastic covering feel off. It is not covered by any warranty because it’s considered cosmetic

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Could not be more disappointed in this dishwasher, have had it for 3 months and every time you open the door since new it has an awful smell inside weather it has dishes or not and now has no power at all. Checked the breaker and all the wiring to the unit and still nothing, power to it but will not turn on.
