Ready for a power outage!

We have had several power outages in our area due to different readons, mainly vehicles hitting power poles and a few bad thunderstorms. No wanting to wait hours to get power restored, we decided to get a generator. We chose the GP8000E and we are very happy with it. We were able to hook up our entire home to it using a transfer switch. We shut our main power to the house and turned the generator on and it worked like a charm! All of our lights came on, our refrigerator and furnace did great, and we even tried our A.C. unit. We are happy with it. Next time there is a power outage in our area, we will be ready for it! Thanks!

Very good product - easy to setup and use

I compared several different generators and chose a GP6500E - which I am very happy with! The intial setup took under 30 minutes, and it started right up. The durability and ease of use seem very good, and the electric start option was well worth the money. I would highly recommend this product.

Big enough for the job.

Shaky start with this machine. Dead battery out of the box and loose contacts in the outlets. Wheels adequate for concrete, but wish they were larger and fatter for moving through gravel. Starts easily. Noise is at 73 DB as stated. Factory Service center took care of the battery problem, but wasn't concerned about loose contacts in outlets. Duh. Sometimes no juice comes out of the 110v side. Have to fiddle with the plugs to make contact. Had a short power failure after purchasing and debugging the generator. Decided to wait for daylight before hooking up generator, but by then power was back on. Because of the garage door design, I will make a shed for the generator's outside storage next to the 220V receptacle. Secondary purpose for the generator is to power the community well in our plat, if needed; hence the need for wider tires when moving the generator through the gravel to the pump house. I think the generator is worth the cost, but am sorry the Factory quality control was sloppy. I wish the factory would actually run the machine and completely test it prior to shipping. A little odor in the gas tank at the store is a small price to pay for enhanced reliability. Nice to have features: a battery feedback circuit, and an output meter advising how much wattage is being drawn by the system being supported by the generator. Best advice I can offer to a buyer is buy the generator in June or July. I didn't get around to purchasing my generator until winter, and there was no selection available in two Counties. This machine was literally the only generator of this class available. I went looking for an 11,000 watt machine and had to settle for this 8,000 watt machine. I think it will run the pumphouse. Maybe I'll never have to find out.

right out the carton ,

we purchased this unit ,removed from the carton @the job site filled with oil that was provide from Generac and fill with gasoline ,hooked up to a outside project job trailer and ran the unit for 40.o hrs even in the cold weather it never missed a beat ,I am glad to have made such a smart purchase of a high quality generator ,originally we were thinking about renting because we didn't want the headache of having to have the rental company have to fix the unit or do repairs when we really depended on electrical power .thank you, Jesse f Rose president of environmental services plus ,Kaukauna wi

Better than I thought.

Needed to go with a larger unit than what I had due to geothermal system. Wanted something to fill up, plug in, and hit transfer switch. This unit gives me ample power for the heat, a/c, well, and the other critical needs. Would like to had a home standby unit but could not justify the cost due to where electrical service was and where gas service was located. The hookups were the killer for a home standby unit, not the cost of the unit itself. This unit will provide everything I need and then some. Have not run full load test yet but smaller loads were handed spot on. Usually power outages in our area run 5-24 hours so this unit will be great.

Nice Generator

This little GP6500 / CO sense technology performed perfectly for the 2 days we needed it much better than we expected.Easy assembly, oil fill and gas fill no issues. First pull started right up! Powered every circuit. Refrigerator,Freezer,Window AC,Cell Phones charged and several lights on keeping us safe, our food cool and frozen. Thank you Generac for making these units quickly available for purchase as needed to power up after a major storm left our area look like a war zone of downed trees, power lines and heavy property damage.

Great Generator

Generator was delivered on time and I was able to assemble it by myself in spite of it's 400lbs with little trouble. Generator started right up and ran very smoothly. My only complaint was that the bracket that holds the 50 amp cable in does not fit the Generac cable. Without holding the cable in, it will vibrate out. I removed the bracket and was able to secure the plug with cable ties. An easy fix but one that shouldn't have to be done considering how well the rest of the machine is constructed.

Installed, but not put to the test - yet.

The generator started and ran immediately, looks like a substantial piece of machinery. We did have one short power outage where generator was put to use for a few hours, and it worked well. I overlooked the fact that the 120vac outlets are GFCI because they are solid black (reset/test buttons and face all same color, and my garage is dark), and the outlets were tripped. So, I initially called support reporting that those outlets were dead. Actually, they were OK. Incidentally, when I did call support, they did not think of that. I really wish there was a load meter. I just noticed today that the XP8000E has the load meter, but that model wasn't among those I found available when I shopped.

YES & NO on Recommendation

I would recommend this Generac GP6500 COSense Generator for his built and quality. It feels a lot heavy than the stated specs, but overall built and quality of the product makes it worth the expense. It also runs for around 12-14 hours on a full tank. No I would not recommend this Generac GP6500 COSense Generator, because of several reasons. (This coming from someone who uses it for full-time RV and boondocking travel), - First: it's heavy. It's heavy to move and it heavy to carry. I'm a single parent at the moment so I don't have someone else willing to help me move it up and down from my truck. Why couldn't you just run it from the truck? You can, but the COSense sensor shuts it off most of the time to protect you from the invisible gas. - Secondly: it's loud. It's not something you operate daily, especially if you live in RV parks here and there like us. I have to set it away far away to cut out the decibles it produces. It's a bitter sweet review if you ask me. I wish I had something that was a lot quieter and lighter to handle with the same power and build quality.
