Finally was able to use my GP17500e
I purchased this generator new approximately 5 years ago. I left an initial impression review at that time. Other than monthly test runs, I have not had to use it. Last night it was finally used to provide power for the entire house. It worked flawlessly. It was 28 degF. When I started the generator and it ran continuously for 16 hours with no shutdown. Temps got to a low of 6 degF. It’s one thing to lose power in the summer. Losing power when it is in the single digits is an altogether different scenario. Our house has baseboard electric heat that had to work in some rooms not heated by the woodstove. In conclusion, and as a follow up,after five years it did exactly what is what purchased for.
Saved us after Irma
Living in the outskirts of Gainesville, FL. we lose power on a constant basis, and becomes a constant nuisance to my family and myself. So the following year I determined to take my tax return and buy a new generator. I researched multiple generators in finally set my mind on the Generac 17500. Since receiving my generator in February I've used it seven times running it 4 to 5 hours with no problems, then Irma hit. I ran this generator for over seven days nonstop and it was a lifesaver. I cannot thank Generac and the people who built this generator for the power, comfort and support it has given my family. This is a well-built generator and I highly recommend it to anyone. Keeping our home livable post Maria!!!
Live in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Bought the unit 1 and a half years ago, but have been using it daily since Irma and Maria hit. I don't have transfer switch installed, so i am using cables going out of the generator straight to the equipment i am using. Powering four refrigerators, two of which are for neighbors, also two fans, two tvs with DVD player and washing machine, even wife has been able to blow dry her hair!!!! Situation is complicated by the destruction of the hurricanes, but this machine and its reliable performance is keeping me sane!!!! I can get upwards of 12 plus hours on a full tank. Easy maintenance and although it makes noise, it is reliable, powerful and great value. Would definitely recommend.
A few quirks but overall happy with the product
Having an urgent need after a storm for replacing my generator ( that refused to start ), i went looking for a new one. The store had plenty of "off brands" or generic brands i was not comfortable with. I found a GP series 6500 tucked away under the rack. Knowing that Generac has made a reputation for home backup systems, i was willing to chance that they did some thinking before they put their portable generator to market. I liked the setup for the most part and it fired up with one pull (to my relief ). The Documentation was clear , giving plug requirements and a wonderful wiring diagram (thank you). Some things they could improve on is the adding of a Fuel Drain Valve, theft prevention security mounts, and supplying a cover with the unit.
Replacement
I had a coleman powermate 6250w ran great. I hope this generator does as good or better than the coleman. The Generac is more powerful and more quite. The design is better and came with wheel ,handle kit, electric start, oil, 20A cord, and funnel. I'm impressed with the ease of functioning especially starting. The pull start is easy enough my wife started it only using one hand. The electric start works great as well the with just a push of button. I plan to use this generator to power my home in power outage. The coleman could not handle but small amount and wouldn't satisfy my wife. She wants hot bath and we have electric water heater and wants to cook on electric stove plus watch TV. I done lots of research and couldn't find another generator like generac. The new appliances are sensitive to THD level and generac is less than five percent. Generac noise level is low also has three year residential warranty. Where live in a rural area we have power outages a lot all times of the year. Winter time we have been without electric for two weeks solid snow and ice storm and bitter cold
Worth every dollar invested!
After losing power for 9 days during Sandy, and just missing the bullet during the winter of 2014, we decided to quickly purchase this generator to avoid future problems. Based on earlier research I looked for a Generac and found one by luck at a local dealer. The generator is VERY easy to start and use, and powers almost our entire home - no need or a full house unit! Excellent price - including transfer box installed about $2000 total - well worth it for peace of mind!
Solid Heavy Unit
I bought this unit last year to run my new 24 ft. concessions trailer G-Dub's Grub which I opened 2 weeks ago. I have worked 2 large events with 20 hrs on meter. It runs the 30 amp service easily-- lights, water heater, water pump, fridge etc. All filters, oil drain, spark plug easy to get to, which is a big reason why I bought it. Getting ready to change to Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic w/ extra Generac filter sent with unit. I use 89 grade non-ethanol fuel. Multiple power options here folks. Heavy USA made unit. My problem with this unit is it's too heavy for me and staff (female) to handle 390 lbs. Overkill on my part. Just bought extended warranty plan last month. Weighing my options.
Great job, but heavy and loud
I have used one of these for a back up generator for my house for 5 years and it does a great job, but I have recently purchased and installed a stand by unit 22kw which is awesome., There are a few things that you need to know before purchasing this unit, it is heavy and I have to use a tractor to haul it from my storage shed to the meter to hook it up, also if it is raining I have to wait until the rain slows down because the connections are open to the elements. the only other thing that pushed me to get a stand by is this unit is really loud. I think if you know these things up front and are ok with them then this unit does a really great job providing constant power when in use.
Great Portable Generator
I have supplied the house through 3 power actual outages since 2013 Dec for short duration's under 12-hours. Run the GP1750E every couple months to make sure it works when needed. Starts up on no more than 2=pulls / and right away when using the electric start. Load Test Run with 3-HP LPAC [Low Pressure Air Compressor 150 psig] for the sand blaster and other lights and equipment in pole barn. Also run Simulated Power Outage Load Test to supply the house VITAL LOADS connected to our 100 Amp Sub-Panel Load Center about 4 times a year. [[Main Breaker Panel is 200 Amp --- Sub Panel is 100 Amp for fuel-oil heat, well water, sump pump, electric water heater, freezers/refrigerators, appliances in kitchen, various lighting circuits.]] Have TV, Computers, MODEM-Router, Printers on their own UPS [Uninterrupted Power Supply] to give me time to setup generator to supply electric to house. Can set-up and power house in about 5-10 minutes. Great Generator for the $$$ --- only regret was I didn't get a 15-KW Generac automatic Stand-By unit --- but I live in the rural area without natural gas and didn't want to invest in propane just for a generator.
Terrific product for the money!
The GP6500E is a great product for the price I paid. This is due in part to the terrific price promotion from the retailer, but I still feel that this item would be a good buy even without the promotion. There were some minor problems in assembling the unit, but once I got it started I was very pleased with its performance. There was enough power to power most everything in my house, but what most impressed me was the apparent purity of the signal. I have two UPS units in the house which didn't like the voltage from my previous generator (they gave an alarm signal and shut down), but no such problem with the GP6500E. This performance I would expect from an inverter, not from a standard portable generator. In conclusion I am very pleased.
