For 50 hours then nothing

Bought this unit to get us through the storm last year. It did it's job well for the first 50 hours, then it quite running. It won't start and run. Pretty sure it's the electronics, the CO2 sensor. Saw a U tube video of the exact model doing the exact thing. Bad unnecessary CO2 sensor. So it sits there broken waiting for me to find a shop, time, and help to load it.

wasn't allowed natural gas or propane

I needed to run my entire home inn case of a Hurricane. This was the only generator gas powered to accommodate our needs. 50 amp service was more than enough, ran my entire home for almost 3 days till power was restored. I was extremely happy. I referred this model GP17500E to a friend he bought one and like me very happy thank god we didn't need it so far in 2018.

Nice to have.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to finally have a generator. Where we live the power constantly goes out even if it’s a small storm. It stays out for hours and hours and we have three children and most of the time we weren’t prepared and had no batteries ready so we sat in the dark. No fun at all. Now I feel so much better because when it goes out we will still be able to have a couple lights on and a space heater. It gives me so much peace of mind. My husband had to take it to work yesterday and he said it worked great! Started up on the first pull. I definitely recommend this generator.

Got it for hurricanes... doesn't work

Bought generator 2 years ago which worked on startup. I drained the gas tank and confidently awaited a time for its use. I am in NC with Hurricane Florence and brought out the generator. After filling the gas tank, checking the oil, charging the battery..... nothing. Will not crank by hand or battery. What a disappointment when it is needed most.

Plastic and cotter pins.

So far seems like a good generator. That said there is more plastic than on my older 5000 (ie choke lever). One definite disappointment is the really cheap and flimsy old fashioned cotter pins used to hold the wheels on. Why not use a self retaining hex as on the handle and feet or at least a heavier slide on style retainer clip????

The Power Came on Just Before We Fired It Up!

We were into a two day power outage and the temperature was in the 20's. Called ahead and paid over the phone - picked Generac because of the name and quality. Drove 70 miles and picked it up and by the time I got home I was too tired to put it together. It got down to 13, but our propane stove kept us warm - put our food outside! Got the generator put together and the power came on! Took a break, added oil and cranked w/o gas to make sure everything was oiled good and it started! Filled with gas and started on the first crank. Plugged in 2 space heaters and the truck engine heater and let it run for an hour and a half to break it in for next time. Plugged in the battery charger and charged for 24 hours to make sure it is ready to go - really like the battery start feature! Great purchase for us - we have been wanting to get one. (Your program won't let me post a 4 X 6 photo.)

The perfect Generator for my house.

This is the perfect generator for running my house when the power goes out. It's really easy to start with the remote start and is quiet compared with other generators I've used. It has a big gas tank so your not constantly filling with gas to keep the lights on. I'm very happy with this generator and with Generac

Great Generator if you can get it started and keep it going.

One reason I purchased this generator was for the ease of starting it with the electric starter when the power goes out. The first week I had it, it started right up, but once I removed the trickle charger that came with it for a couple days it wouldn't start. I figured it had a bad battery or a short in the system, so I took it to a Generac authorized repair shop to have it checked out and they said the battery was bad and replaced it. Sad to say the new battery was also dead after sitting a couple of days. I did some research on the internet and discovered that this Generac Model had issues of shorting out and causing the battery to drain and die. I installed an on/off toggle switch to isolate the battery when not in use and that fixed the shorting out issue. One other issue that I've ran into, is that this CO sensor is almost too sensitive, if the wind blows the exhaust back towards the generators CO sensor it will shut down unexpectedly, so I have to position the exhaust pipe towards the same direction as the wind is blowing. Now that I know what it takes to get this generator started and keep it going it's actually a really good generator and it performs well, it's just not user friendly.

Works well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a first time user I never used a generator earlier and luckily I used this right in the hurricane season and was able to get the most out of it. Just followed the user manual carefully and followed the instructions. It’s easy to start 212cc has good power and I tried using it for for my freezer in the garage and lamps and electric grill for testing and it worked well. Easy transferring. Has a handle and wheels. Not too loud. The fuel tank is good size for the whole night . Best for campers if you can handle the sound. It has fuel on of switch for safety and choke . I definitely feel this can save us from winter storms and outages. You can check the oil level easily. This is very good if you want to power your appliances for 10hours.

I'm pleased overall with the features and output.

I was surprised that the THD was high enough that my digital frequency meter would not read 60 Hertz either at no load or full load. I had to read the frequency with my ocilloscope. However the THD must be low enough so that it doesn't seem to bother my electronics. It starts easy with the pull starter. I'll probably use a bigger starting battery when the little one that came with the unit dies. The voltage is pretty stable during motor starts. Since the genset is heavy I would like to see a lifting eye to set it in a pickup bed. All things considered, it seems worth the affordable price for an 8 KW non commercial machine.
