The Power Came on Just Before We Fired It Up!

We were into a two day power outage and the temperature was in the 20's. Called ahead and paid over the phone - picked Generac because of the name and quality. Drove 70 miles and picked it up and by the time I got home I was too tired to put it together. It got down to 13, but our propane stove kept us warm - put our food outside! Got the generator put together and the power came on! Took a break, added oil and cranked w/o gas to make sure everything was oiled good and it started! Filled with gas and started on the first crank. Plugged in 2 space heaters and the truck engine heater and let it run for an hour and a half to break it in for next time. Plugged in the battery charger and charged for 24 hours to make sure it is ready to go - really like the battery start feature! Great purchase for us - we have been wanting to get one. (Your program won't let me post a 4 X 6 photo.)

Piece of mind

I opted to buy a portable home back up generator opposed to a built in because of the versatility. It will do the job of a built in but I have the option to use it for other things as well as loaning to someone else if I haven’t lost power in the event of a hurricane or other natural disasters. Upon delivery I was impressed with the ease of set up and overall performance of the generator. I expected it to be very loud but was actually surprised that it was not unbearable. Overall very happy with the purchase and not as anxious with the upcoming hurricane season starting.

AWESOME!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Has already been a life-saver this fall. Lost power briefly within two weeks receiving it. I don't have a washer or dryer, so can't comment on how it would handle an entire load of heavy appliances, but it covered everything else. I lose power a few times a year and work from home, so this is pretty essential for me! It is very heavy, so I did need help moving it and getting it out of the box to set up, but after that everything was simple.

Best generator ever

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It arrived in excellent condition, assembling was very easy less than 10mins and worked amazing. I love that it has many functions and can power just about anything. Very useful now that the winter weather is coming and electricity tends to go out.

Generac 17500 is great but owner’s manual poorly written

The good: Powerful generator provides enough amperage for entire 2300 sq ft house including a/c and 2 electric waters heaters. The bad: Owner’s manual - parts list, item descriptions and assembly descriptions do not match what comes out of the parts bag. C’mon Generac - you can do better! Overall: I am pleased with the generator. It is a fine piece of engineering. I also like the relocation of the 50amp outlet from underneath back up onto the front panel where it was on my old 15kw - nicely done!

Fired up first pull!

Had to put the wheels on but after topping off with oil and gas this thing fired up first pull. It is somewhat quieter than the Stanley that it replaced. Excellent generator for the money. Output seems to be on the upper end of rating. We run power tools and air compressor of it at jobs site. Works great.

Just what I needed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used this generator a few times since getting it and I have been extremely happy with the product. No issues or concerns with starting and it provided more than enough power to supply my home during the outage.

Better than the rest.

After extensive research, IMO this unit has all the spec's I require to run my home in an emergency power outage. After Irene and Sandy leaving me out of power for a combined 25 days, I don't have to split wood any more. This unit was more than adequate for running the 240v essentials in my home, furnace, water pump, water heater and my son's fish tanks. I suggest getting a unit that is a little more than you need. This one is 50 amps, My new GP15,000E was a lot quieter than I expected and the idle switch is great, only runs engine to speed as power is required. Generac should do a DB sound test on these units and post the results as it would no doubt better persuade folks to purchase these portable generators. It should also come with 4 locking wheels.

This product is...."The Beast"!

Have owned a 7,000 exl by Generac for years and never a single problem. Made the decision to purchase this GP17,500 watt beast. Very impressed with the quality of this unit. Fired up without the choke on first start out of the box! Have only ran for an hour doing a break in, so haven't put a load on it yet, but I can tell the Beast is ready! Thanks for a well made product!

Leaks gasoline like a faucet

I bought a GP7500E that leaks gasoline from the carburetor like a faucet. The same problem with the GP5500 has been well documented on the internet and YouTube, yet the Generac rep I just spoke to on the phone has "never heard of the problem" - apparently cause by a cheaply made corroding float needle. Another company used the same carburetor on their generators, but at least they had the decency to conducting a recall for their customers and send out new carburetor kits. I'll never buy another Generac based on the company's lack of safety concern regarding these leaking carburetors. The service center charges $100 to pick it up under warranty. Thanks, Generac. I'll buy a better made replacement needle for this carburetor from from Honda and repair it myself. Anyone considering purchasing a Generac portable generator should Google "Leaking Generac Carburetor" before purchasing from this company. They're product is an obvious fire hazard. (I doubt you'll post this on your website, but I WILL be posted this review on other retailer websites, too -- just because Generac has "never heard of this float needle problem". Serial# 5978320A
