Turbo is great, but shouldn't be necessary

TurboTax is an great product. But most people should not have to use a private intermediary (especially paid, but also free) to file their taxes. Please stop (i) deceptive marketing to steer people away from free file options, and (ii) lobbying to prevent simpler tax codes and filing options without you as an intermediary.

Do Better

State tax calculation omitted the standard deduction and did not provide information to take the retirement income subtraction. these caused an error of more than $2000 and when I discovered the issue, I had to file an amended return. I have always relied on Turbo Tax for accuracy, but this year was unacceptable!

TurboTax 2025 download requires improvement

TurboTax 2025 requires software improvements. Downloaded financial institutions 1099 forms however, the tax return indicated that I still have my IRA and was asking for my RMD. My IRA account was closed at least 10 years ago and I could not delete this information. It also is confusing as to which IRS Code Sections our retirement plans F1099R are covered under. Initially, it di not accept my taxable benefits from my gross benefits on my F1099R from OPM. Why does it require us to enter our financial institution Routing Code and account number twice for our South Carolina tax return?

Turbo Tax needs improvements!

I could not import any w-2 forms electronically or manually with images or PDF documents. It was very frustrating. Turbo Tax seems more interested in up selling features than improving and securing the tax returns. Why is there fee to a file the state return? I've using this product for over 10 years and this return was very frustrating.

I love Turbo Tax!

I love Turbo Tax. This year, though, Turbo Tax took a long time to get the program updated to input IRA distributions. It stated due to :recent tax law changes" but I have trouble believing that since I wasn't aware of any changes regarding IRA distributions.

OK this year, but I am worried about the future

I have used TurboTax as a desktop app for MacOS for many years and have found it to be accurate and easy to use. I prefer to keep my tax data on a home desktop rather than trust Intuit to safely store my data on its servers. Unfortunately, the IRS forces me to file electronically through a "tax provider", so Intuit has to be a middleman when filing the return. This is easy to do. This year I upgraded my desktop running MacOS to a device that uses Apple Silicon rather than an Intel CPU. Apple has been phasing out Intel CPU's over the last five years. I was shocked to find that the Mac desktop TurboTax app runs only on an Intel CPU. This requires me to run the app with Apple's Rosetta translator. Apple will no longer support Rosetta, starting in 2027, which causes me to worry about the future of a MacOS desktop version. All my other third party apps compile their programs in "Universal" mode, which creates both Intel and Apple Silicon machine code. I do not understand why Intuit doesn't do this. This reminds me of when Intuit suddenly replaced the Mac Quicken desktop app with an inferior version without explanation. Intuit pushed for the online version of Quicken, but I was uncomfortable with any company holding all my personal financial data. Intuit later sold Quicken, which explained the sudden lack of interest in supporting the program. It looks like Intuit is now pushing strongly for all users to run TurboTax through their browsers, saving Intuit the cost of maintaining multiple hardware platforms. I understand the economics of this, but Intuit has already developed the multiple-platform infrastructure. I assume that the program is written in a high level language that can generate multiple-platform apps with multiple compilers that are already in place. The program is a set of menus and dialog boxes that should not be sensitive to updated operating systems, so the cost of multiple platforms would seem to be not too large of a burden. My confidence in Intuit has been shaken with the apparent move away from a local desktop version of TurboTax.

Still a great piece of Tax Software!

I have been using TurboTax Deluxe for Windows for about 15 years now and still find it incredibly easy to use. In total, I have probably saved several hundred dollars over having someone do my taxes for me. I have not used the business editions, but I believe the experience would be similar. The software is easy to use and at least for the last 15 years... very accurate!

Turbo tax's Changes little harder to follow

I did not talk to anyone and finished on my own. Importing financial information from financial institutions was much easier than expected but harder to find how to enter school income tax withheld in the right place so it would be credited on the tax return

Easy to use

The software is easy to use and can walk you through the process. Having the ability to import all institutions forms makes it so that there are no mistakes. My only suggestion would be to have the ability to import a PDF and pull the data from the file would be a good option.

Good, but Wanting for 2025

I used Turbo Tax again this year for my 2025 taxes. This year, the program was missing several key sections where program step-by-step guidance would have been nice. Additionally, the associated forms for those sections were not available by February 25th, the date I gave up and filed my taxes. I had to resort to "guess work" instead of relying on a program that I had learned to trust. . .
