I use this on my motorcycle - the only thing I haven't figured out is how to use it while wearing gloves. My old GPS worked with gloves which was convenient.

still investigating how to use. looking to find voice commands to set up a trip? it may not support voice commands to the device. manual entry works and isn't confusing

A great GPS but just wait for the updated maps when you need them. This device does not give you Life time maps or LTM, and yes this is important, as they get pricey.

Although the new unit informs me of new upcoming way points it is not conclusive of important points like Rest areas. Mine thought it was a rest area and was a view point. Traveling through Portland my 10 yr old GPS routed me outside the busy city the new unit sent me through all the traffic lights of downtown!

Got this one when my older Garmin Drive stopped working. Looks just like it, but no instruction manual for tech-impaired customers such as myself. Has features my old one didn't have, had no idea whether to select or not. E.g.: choose between Fastest Time and Straight Line. What? And there was no sound. I finally just blindly pushed random selections and suddenly I had the voice. I think I have it figured out now, just hope I don't need a "new" and "improved" one again. My old one was just fine--until it wasn't. I also hope the random selections I made in total frustration don't take me to the dregs of big cities. Right now I see a main route on the screen, but there's also a dotted line route that's slightly different. No idea what that's about. Just get me to where I need to go, and give me a scenic route. Really do not like interstates and other highways.

I had a GPS (not a Garmin) unit given to me a long time ago from another company. I had used it sparingly but really didn't like how it functioned. I started field training a new officer and decided that a GPS unit may be beneficial. I did the research and the minute I opened the box on my new Garmin I was impressed. Easy to set up, basically plug and Play. The functions are more than I could ever need. I have been recommending them to all my guys that want to get GPS units. For the price and ease of use I can't see anything better.

Extremely helpful identifying crossroads and upcoming roadways. Also compact enough and does not consume a lot of space in my dashboard. Since I work in rural areas 90% of the time, the traffic variant was not a priority for me and hasn't been needed on my end. Obviously, as a GPS it works fast and when my cellular based devices lose connection, this is a good fallback. However, it is time consuming entering addresses and locations manually and one handed, if needed, and it can struggle identifying addresses and routes with names native to a states highway department, such as it may have difficulty identifying routes with an FM (Farm to Market) road or a CR (County Road) especially if they have the same identifying numbers in a county in Texas for example. If your job requires lots of driving in rural areas, or driving in general and you need to know upcoming crossroads, directions, and other basic info I cannot recommend it enough however. I would not recommend if you need directions off of marked roadways however, and if you work in populated areas I would recommend the traffic tracking variant.

at times it takes a very long time to get satilite reception on clear days. I have had this one in service for about a month now. Past gps had it ready to navigate soon as it started. It was replaced due to slow reception followed by display freezing after one year of use. Curious how long this one lasts. I have been a long time Garmin user for work and pleasure.

I have had this GPS for two months now and couldn’t be happier. It replaced a Nuvi 57 which served me well for 60K miles but had become dated (2016). This GPS’s screen is MUCH better in sensitivity and clarity. Like comparing an old tube tv to a new flat screen (did I just date myself?). It also boots up super fast and couldn’t be more simple to use. Very happy with my purchase.

Garmin Drive 53 is a basic entry-level GPS. It does a decent job for traveling in the US. However, when we recently traveled to Montreal, Canada, it frequently got confused, and gave very bizarre and confusing and sometimes incorrect driving instructions! When this Garmin GPS gets confused, you will need to drive away from your current location for several blocks, so that it will "wake up" and correct itself and bring you on to the right track eventually! It does not have a WiFi function, so you will need to hook it up to a computer to get the map updates. Garmin's map updates are not fully trustworthy in the US and Canada, even though we updated our maps just the day before we traveled. For example, a big portion of the old l-95 was renamed as I-295 several years ago, but as of today the Garmin GPS still calls it I-95 (this is literally misleading if you are not a local traveler)! In Montreal it frequently gives us the instructions to take Exit 53 on a highway, but the highway sign clearly shows it is actually Exit 6! Overall, this Garmin GPS does a decent job. But it is not as capable as our TomTom GPS that can perform map updates automatically via WiFi without a computer, and the TomTom GPS also provides traffic updates but the Garmin GPS does not.
