well built heavy duty generator

My previous owned generator did not have enough power. I studied the different generators offered by other manufacturers and decide that the Westinghouse was the best to meet my needs. I am a senior and this battery start generator solved the pull start problem I was having.

Almost Ruined It

I have owned several generators in the past (I'm 75 yrs old) and never had a problem. Down here in Louisiana with yearly hurricanes we lose power a lot. Almost ruined this one because the instructions about the oil is confusing. First. the unit has a yellow dip stick so when you put in new oil, which is yellow it is nearly impossible to see the oil level. Second,.the oil fill lays at a horizontal angle, (unlike a car which if a vertical fill tube) . so it is hard to fill and hard to read the level on the dipstick and very easy to overfill. Third, they give you a 1 quart can of oil but don't tell you how much it takes when you first fill it up. But low oil was the problem when I almost ruined my generator. At the start I put oil in and added more and kept checking the dipstick then I thought it was full. So I started it and it ran for just about 1 hour and shut off. I tried many times over several days and it would run for only a few minutes or not start at all. I called Westinghouse about one of their service centers. Anyway, after about 10 days I reread the manual and began all over again. Ultimately, when I had rechecked everything I found that the oil level was now showing LOW so I added more oil, almost the whole quart and it finally started and ran fine for 2 hrs until I shut it off. Reading the manual for the 15th time I finally saw where it says under the troubleshooting info, " low oil shut down switch is preventing the unit from starting". This switch must be located internally in either the engine or the crankcase not anywhere that you can see it!!! This i believe was my problem and I sure hope I have not ruined my brand new generator, especially with another hurricane coming!!!!

Worked great until it didn’t start

Had my WGen9500dfc for about 18 months. Never had to use it for emergency. Tested it periodically and never had an issue. Tested it ahead of HELENE and it didn’t start. A week later I’m emailing with the support folks. Was told the run/stop switch needs to be replaced. Hope that does the trick. Not feeling confident that my family can rely on it in a pinch now.

Dual fuel is the best

Just delivered today. Easy assembly with everything needed including engine oil. Hooked up to propane and fired right up. Used electric start for initial start then tried the pull start. Very easy to pull start, only one pull required. Remote start is a nice feature for a standby generator. Very good range on the remote. Powered by large shop with no issues. Very satisfied.

Good Generator

We bought this after our 20 year old Generator gave up the ghost during the 2025 Ice Storm. This ran the everything we needed it to with and trouble. The remote start is a nice feature. If you are running it 24/7 the oil change schedule gets expensive. The fuel consumption was decent. So far it seems well built. The only real issue I have is the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is pretty high. This can cause problems with electrical items that are sensitive. It got us through 12 days of no power. I would recommend this generator to those that want something to run their house.

Confident this will power my home when needed

This generator is one of the highest rated ones out there and I did a lot of research before choosing it. I chose it for several reasons: Power to price ratio, for the amount of starting watts and running watts this has you will not find a better price. Low THD, important for when you need to power electronics. Dual fuel, you never know when you may not have access to gasoline. Has a 50amp outlet, most generators only have 30amp max. This is going to be connected to my home as a backup power source, and with 50amps it’ll power literally my whole home minus my EV charger. Remote start, lets you start it up without ever stepping foot outside if you want and worked right out of the box, didn’t have to charge anything or pair anything. Comes with wheels, I shouldn’t even have to rate this part of it but basically every other generator makes you buy a “wheel kit”. It was super simple to setup and start up on propane for the first run. You tip the thing over first and foremost and attach the feet and wheels, after that you can wheel it around pretty easily because the plastic wheels are pretty big. I was able to do this all by myself. I don’t know if it’s actually a Westinghouse product or if they just licensed the name, but it’s a name that I’m familiar with and trust more than the others in the price range. Now why didn’t I give this five stars? Well, it may not even be Westinghouse’s fault, but mine came with a bunch of cosmetic damage. Lots of scratches and scuffs and part of the frame is actually bent too. Also, the included quart of oil leaked all over. Granted none of this affects functionality, but when you’re shelling out a grand for something you want it to arrive looking brand new. Better packaging could have prevented at least some of the issues. Overall I definitely recommend this generator and actually plan on purchasing a smaller inverter generator from Westinghouse soon to use as an actual portable power source.

Easy setup

This was bought for a project that has no power hook-up. The set -up was so easy. I will advise that you read over the directions before doing the remote start pairing. It was very simple to do. Just take it easy! The generator fired up after a push on the stater of about 3 seconds. Very impressed! Also, it takes the whole bottle of engine oil and 5 gals of gas to fill.

A Great Purchase

We are so excited about our new WGEN9500DF generator purchase! It runs off gas and propane. It's the perfect size to restore power to our needed appliances and/or electronics during a power outage. It doesn't take up much storage space in our garage when not in use.

Couldn't Be Happier

I bought my Westinghouse Dual Fuel generator back in July of 2021. I am very happy with it as it can power my entire house during an interruption in power. I particularly like the versatility in being able to use propane or gasoline. Great product from a very happy customer.
