Love it, Love it, Love it!!!

We are so in love with our new generator. Previously, we had a little 3750-watt gas generator with extension cords hooked up to it and had to be so careful to get everything hooked up right so that we didn't blow the generator or the appliances. We had to go out to check the gas usage, change the extension cords in the house from appliance to appliance, etc. It was so much work to have the power go out and then so much work to run our generator, too. Our WGEN9500DF has totally changed our lives. We have the fob to turn it off/on in the pouring snow instead of hiking through 2' of snow to do so. The instrument panel tells us how much fuel we have so that we know for sure when to add propane or gas. Not only is there a push button start if we choose not to use the fob, there is also a pull line as a backup starter. It's easy to change from propane fuel to gas with the turn of a mechanism on the front panel. As far as maintenance, there is a window that tells us both the current run time and the overall run time in hours. This is used to know when we need to change our oil and other maintenance. Our surge with gas is 12,500 peak watts. I feel like we purchased the Mercedes of generators at a fair and affordable price (I reviewed a lot of generators and prices.) It's like we have a new baby. I know this review may sound over the top, but if you had used our old generator and were 76 years old, you would understand my enthusiasm. Now, we spend our time shoveling snow instead of shoveling snow AND changing extension cords and running outside to change fuel every hour. Last, do you know how when you buy a product, oftentimes, the manual it comes with is generic, for example, one manual for all their vacuum cleaners in that line of vacuum products? I am so pleased to report that my GEN 9500 has a manual that is exclusively for the WGen9500DF with the customer service number right on the front. Thank you, Westinghouse. Great job!

Easy Start Up!

Because my husband is a Public Works Director he is always away on the flash floods, the snow, the wind and of course what comes with it the power outages. Finally I have something I can handle to keep the household going until the power comes back. This is an awesome product especially for those ladies who are stuck at home fending for themselves.

Well Built Unit With Excellent Features

I bought this unit a little over a month ago now. I installed a 50Amp Outlet on the exterior of my home and a 50 Amp breaker with a mechanical interlock with the main breaker. This has proven to be a really good solution at a substantially lower cost than a standby unit. Yes, I have to flip a couple breakers and roll the unit out my garage and plug it in but that about it. As infrequent power losses are, this is more than adequate for me. The remote start is awesome. I use it to start the unit after it plugged in and I have flipped the breakers in my breaker panel. It’s nice that you can shut the unit down to conserve fuel at night or when you leave and start and stop it suing the remote. Really a great idea. The solid tires are a really good move as well. I have used units with air filled tires before and they leak and it makes it very very difficult to move them. The one thing I would like to be different is the location of the 50A outlet on the unit would be for that outlet to be in a different spot, swapped with one of the other outlets. The issue is, the 50A outlet is located on the far right directly above the highest point of the wheel. This creates an obstruction to the natural position of the heavy 50A cable needed to connect to this outlet on the generator. (See attached photo) All of the other outlets require a much lighter duty cable, due to their lower power levels, therefore it would be much better to have one of those (perhaps the 120 vac outlets) above the wheel. It was quite difficult to manipulate the cable to use this outlet with a bottom exit cable which is the most common and safest solution in the event of rain, etc. I gave the unit a 4 Star rating specifically because of this design shortfall. If a 4.5 options was available, I would have selected it. If it wasn’t for this, I would have given a 5 star without a doubt.

Serves all my needs and more!

This unit has plenty of power to run most anything you may need during a power outage. The controls are easy to understand, and very easy to start. It has a large fuel tank for a long run time. It can get a bit heavy with a full tank of gas, but the attached folding handle and large wheels make moving the unit much easier. This is a well built/designed generator with some nice features.

Versatility

I just got this generator yesterday. I purchased it for the flexibility of dual fuel and it is large enough to still run my small A/C unit, fridge and freezer. I like the fact that is still has the pull start option, as batteries and electronic push buttons will eventually have issues. It is heavy at 220 lbs dry, but is easy to unpack and assemble the wheels, feet, battery connection, and engine oil. Hooked it up to propane tank for test and started on the 5th pull. Started on 1st pull each try thereafter. Push button start on the console worked fine, as did the remote start key fob. I tested the fob at about 50 yards, and it started and stopped fine. Manual states will start up to 109 yards. Noise level is reasonable for the size of generator. Rolls well with the hinge out handle and large wheels. The 120 V AC GFCI plugs worked fine. Have yet to test the 240V outlets. Only tool not provided is a crescent wrench to tighten the propane connection to the supplied hose/regulator. Documentation is easy to follow and provide adequate level of detail. Too early to comment on long term performance, but early indications are favorable.

Better features for price

I bought a Generac for my husband because I heard they were better. After seeing the wattage and price of the Westinghouse though, I immediately returned the Generac. After we set up everything, we realized we made the right choice. We even bought the Westinghouse cover for it. Best decision for our money.

Great Experience

My Generator arrived when promised. Delivery driver was very professional and polite. Instructions are very well written and very understandable. Everything included with the generator was in the box. Installing the mounting feet and wheels was very easy. I plan to use synthetic oil, but have not added it to the engine yet. I plan to do that tomorrow, and run the generator on both gasoline and propane.

WGen9500DFc

I just purchased this Generator for my home backup power in case of a hurricane. I have been in the Construction industry all of my life and just retired after being a State Certified electrical contractor for over 30 years and this is by far the best state of the art generator I have ever bought. I tested it today for 5 hours and everything worked perfect. I would highly recommend this product.

Does It All

I purchased the WGEN9500df generator yesterday. It was easy to setup and get reedy to run. Hook up my propane tank and the generator fired up in just a couple seconds. The next day I put the generator on and powered up my house with it. I currently have a 30 amp plug but will be switching over to the 50 amp plug after I upgrade my breaker in my panel. Generator ran great with out any issues. I love the remote start button not that it is necessary but just a nice extra. I would highly recommend this generator to anyone as an alternative to a Generac or similar whole house unit.
