Surprisingly Great Sound with these Open Earbuds
I was a bit skeptical when I first opened the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds and examined them. I use Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II everyday, so how would the Ultra Open Earbuds compare? I was surprised what great sound these open earbuds deliver. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME – I am an IT Consultant and work long days with a lot of video and teleconferencing. I enjoy audio books, jazz and popular music. I am a bike rider and a rower and I enjoy cooking as a hobby. USE CASE I have been using the Ultra Open Earbuds for a few weeks now. I really love them, mainly because I can wear them all day without feeling them at all and they deliver high quality sound. In fact, they are so comfortable that I literally forget that I am wearing them. I have worn them while working, cooking, doing chores in and out of the house, relaxing and exercising. These will be my go to on a daily basis. Through all the occasions of use, listening to a podcast or book or taking a phone call in a loud environment (i.e., the mall) proved to be most challenging and required me to turn up the volume beyond the normal level. PROS/CONS. PROS – The brand name means quality sound and manufacturing and they live up to their name. They provide great sound in a quiet or moderately loud environment There are actual buttons on these earbuds that control volume, pause, skip, answer calls, change modes or, most importantly, switch devices. I’ve never had such a functional pair of earbuds – extremely easy to use. (I haven’t hung up on one person accidentally which I have done with every other pair of earbuds I’ve ever owned). They are lightweight and extremely comfortable. I enjoy using them while still being able to hear what is happening around me. The new immersion mode is fantastic. It puts the sound in front of you which may seem odd, but really puts you in the middle of the sound. It’s just amazing that this can happen with open earbuds. CONS – The unusual design takes some moving around and fiddling to find the best fit for my ear and to achieve the best sound. This process wasn’t truly intuitive. There are times when I want to be able to hear my surrounds and other times when I want to close out extraneous noise. When my task requires total focus/concentration (i.e. listening to a book, work phone call), I prefer my noise cancelling Quiet Comfort Earbuds II
I use them all the time!
I've had these for about a month now and they are my go-to buds! First, they are stylish and look nice in the case and when I'm wearing them. But mostly I love how easy they are to put on, take off and use to start and stop my audiobooks. The sound is clear and they are plenty loud enough for me and I can still hear what's happening around me. They occasionally blip but then get straightened out without intervention. I wish they would have come with the wireless charging case.
Too quiet
They work great, function is fine. You just can’t use them effectively if it’s noisy, they’re just too quiet and won’t get nearly as loud as I need them at times. It would have been really nice to have the option to make them louder than I need, especially for the price.
Works for my use case
I have had these for several months now. I wear them everyday to listen to audiobooks while walking outside and to listen to you tube tutorials. I have very small ear canals and these are the only Bose earbuds I can wear for any length of time. They do become uncomfortable after a while but they work well for an hour or so at a time for me. I do wish they had wireless charging though.
The one smiling…
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am the one smiling. I love my Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. That is really an understatement. While wearing them, I workout with my favorite music, I move on to listening to my favorite books and end of day, while calming down before bed. I have several pair but my favorite are the black and the diamond. They last forever, the sound quality is incredible and they look great too. I even wear them at the store when I want to be in my own mind while doing daily chores. It’s a plus for me hearing my surroundings. My favorite is when watching sports and I’m in my chair smiling or laughing. My husband will ask me, “you’re listening to your buds aren’t you?” Me, “yes I am.” LoL
Beyond what I was expecting!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought these an about 45 days ago to use as my primary Bluetooth headset for work but they quickly became my go to for both work and working out. Being able to be fully aware of my surroundings during both work from home meetings and during long runs has proven to be invaluable. The sound quality was beyond what I was expecting. Part of my daily run route is along a busy road and I expected traffic noise to impede my ability to hear what was playing through my ultra open but I was surprised when I could hear podcasts and music just as clearly as in ear ear buds. I’ve since recommended them to my brother, my mom and my best friend, all who have purchased and also have rave reviews.
Should have been better to be Bose
I have had them for 2 months ….mixed reviews compared to other open ear buds I rate a 3.5 out of 5……but overall a 2.5 out of 5 due to the sound is not the best quality of other open ear buds the connection is not the best at times …the fit is the most comfortable ever but so much that if 1 bud falls out you will not no it so I get feeling to see if they are still in place….much improvement is needed to have the bose name and to asked for that price ….not worth the price at all
Great "in-earbuds" that aren't in-ear 🤔
I really prefer in-earbuds to headphones, but even after I got some foam tips for better comfort - my ears still get "swamp ear" and get irritated after long use. I finally decided to see if there was a better solution and stumbled upon these Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, which seemed like they could be the answer. After about a week or so of using them, I have been pleasantly surprised at how well they perform. They are by far the weirdest pair of earbuds I have ever owned, and I was considering buying the Sony LinkBuds but I was really hoping for something different like bone conduction rather than in the ear (which seem to be my main problem). I also was hoping that I'd be able to wear them for longer than my in-ear pair, which definitely is the case. Comparatively I'd have to take my in-ears out every so often to clean my ears as with these the only issue is my ear tends to get a tad irritated after long-use but it also could just be my ears getting used to something being there, hard to say right now until I've had them for longer but I just adjust them slightly up or down when I feel discomfort. I actually got these as my "gaming" earbuds, which after turning off "Immersion Mode" and using "Stereo Mode" I feel it's best unless you're listening to music it's just too bassy for regular stuff in my humble opinion (still sounds great, YMMV). Battery life has been a lot better than my other pair of earbuds which would die after ~4-6 hours, so far the lowest I've gotten these have been around 40%. I'm also not too sure how fast they charge, since they live on my desk and I charge them overnight but when I first charged them it took about half hour to fully charge from ~60%. It's a bit difficult to figure out what the optimal spot is for these earbuds to perform their best, I believe for me at least when they're at their lowest on/in your ear it seems to be the best. I'll randomly check that they're evenly pushed into my ears and not falling out from time to time, but generally they're pretty snug fit that don't move much once on. As far as "noise cancellation" or "passive hearing" goes, they do a pretty good job at blocking out sound when turned up I generally have mine around 60% at that's loud enough for me - I can still hear around me, if need be which I like not having to take off my earbuds in between sessions to multitask. There was a recent firmware update that adds auto-volume, which increases the volume in louder environments which is kind of "noise cancellation" in its simplest form. You're also able to control the earbuds pretty well with just the button on either earbud, play, pause, skip track, reverse track, toggle immersive mode or you can customize the shortcut which is nice. I have left as cycle thru still/motion/off immersion, and right as toggle immersion but there's also "switch devices" and "access your voice assistant" as options. I look forward to future updates and possibly v2 of this product if it performs well, a great niche product for an oversaturated market. I would recommend trying these out if you're at all interested, the price is a bit hard to swallow but they may become your favorite pair of earbuds 🫠
Game Changer
I bought these a couple of weeks ago and they are a game changer for me! This is the first pair of ear buds that are truly comfortable & that I truly feel safe using while walking my dogs. I am a small lady and "one size fits all" of anything most often doesn't work for me.
Great sound for music, not great for phone calls!
I’ve had my Bose Open Earbuds for about two weeks now and I do like them. The sound is very good as far as music or listening to a book. The only issue I have with them is the phone sound quality for the people that I’m talking to. They always ask me to repeat what I’ve said because they can’t hear me very well. If you could improve on this I would gladly give 5 stars!!
