Garmin 76

There are no provisions to dash mount this unit! I returned it as I do not like mounting on the windshield. Can’t believe Garmin did not make provisions for dash mounting!

Great features

Seems to get a little quirky in this warm weather, I miss the drop down warning for school zones also no tracking of past routes.

We appreciate the review! The operating temperature for the DriveCam 76 is from -20° to 55°C (from -4° to 131°F). If you're experiencing odd behavior outside these temperatures, then it may be beneficial to move the position of the device to an area that receives less direct sunlight. An alternate mounting solution may be helpful in this regard. With regard to the school zone alerts, the DashCam 76 has a Driver Alert feature that will play a tone and display the speed limit (if available) for an upcoming school or school zone. You can find and either enable or disable these Driver Alerts by selecting Settings (the gear icon) > Driver Assistance > Driver Alerts, and then select or clear the checkbox next to each alert. Lastly, you may need to enable the Travel History feature on your device. You can do so by selecting Settings > Device > Travel History. Doing so will allow your device to store a record of the places you go, view your trip log, use the Trip History feature, and use myTrends suggested routes. If you have any questions. Garmin Support is always happy to help! You can reach us at 1-800-800-1020 Monday-Friday, 7am-7pm Central (Closed weekends and holidays).

I really like it, but....

I've had many Garmin units in the past, all of them great. This one took over three hours to finally get to work properly, and now it is fine. EXCEPT the suction mount will not hold it on the windshield for more than a day or two before it falls off! I've cleaned it, checked it, but it still will not work for more than a day or two. My older units I could mount on dash pads, but the configuration of this one will not allow that as it will block the camera.

Only one weakness so far

Overall, this is an awesome Garmin GPS. The only point of irritation that I have found is with the sensitivity of lane changes. I receive lane change warnings at inappropriate times while moving and NOT drifting between the lines. Otherwise this is a great unit and a huge improvement over my previous Garmin GPS .

GPS good; Camera no good with dash mount

The GPS is good, as all my Garmin GPS units have been. But the camera lens is mounted in the center of the unit, making it unsuitable for use with a dash mount. Garmin knows this; if you look at their website, the Drivesmart 76 without the camera shows a dash mount as an available accessory. But with the camera, a dash mount no longer shows as an accessory. My old GPS, a Garmin Nuvicam, has the lens way off to the side, making it suitable for use with a windshield mount or a dash mount. Garmin, what were you thinking?
