Awesome Hoop - Must Buy

I love this product! I've had it for almost 10 years and my children have grown up playing on this hoop all day everyday and every chance they get. It's been very helpful being able to change the height of the hoop so easily and really enjoy having dunk contests with kids in the neighborhood. I got this hoop when my kids were 4 and 0. Now one is turning 14 in a couple of days and my 9 year old also loves this hoop so much. We might get one for our patio

Poorly made.

I bought this about a month ago now, and my kids love playing with it. However, I'm not sure how long it will last. We purchased this and then assembled it the same day. While assembling it we found that the base is extremely flimsy. We worried if and how long it will actually support the pole and hoop. We figured that perhaps once it was filled it would work better but it did not. When we stood it upright, the base cracked! While we were filling it, we noticed that it was already broken and had additional holes in it where the water leaked out. It is not sealed tight! So now in order to use this basketball hoop, we have to keep a bag of sand on top of it to keep it from falling over and I'm not sure how long it will last. I only keep it up because my kids love it so.

Great Hoops... for indoors

I work at a school. We purchased 4 of these hoops. We have 2 inside and 2 outside. They all get LOTS of use. The ones inside have held up wonderfully. Unfortunately, filling the bases with water did not provide enough support to keep the hoops on the ground with the heavy winds we get in the Colorado foothills. The wind has blown them over several times destroying the rims. We are getting new rims and filling the bases with sand. Hopefully, that will help.

Durability ....

I bought this item in Oct 2010, my wife and I put it together w/o any major problems. My kids now 9 and 12 have used it endlessly with all their friends and it has held up prefectly. (Knock on wood). I am now putting this system into the ground using the extension and ground sleeve I bought from Lifetime. -- I highly recomend this product.

Very sturdy. Easy to adjust height. Great fun

Just finished first game with the new Lifetime 54" Portable Basketball Goal. Just put it up and played a game on it. First impressions are this is an amazingly good buy for $300. A solid, obviously well built and seemly durable piece of equipment. Assembly is lengthy but instructions are very well done & walk step by step. Bags of parts are labeled for each section of the assembly process. Go slow. Pay very close attention Hard parts: 1) Getting axle thru base. After a couple of tries where it was not even close, I sliced the holes another 1/4" larger. That did it. Tip: If assembling alone, use a clamp with a jig as your second pair of hand push the axle into the second hole while banging it in. 2) If on grass do NOT fill base until its positioned. Wow this was a mistake! The wheels roll great on hard surface but sink into the ground and then there is no moving it. It was hard to get it up on plywood and walking it in plank by plank took a long time The 'base gel' sold elsewhere seems to work really well. I did not want to use sand. The base is extremely heavy and the goal is held solidly Can you assemble alone? Yes. But its not easy. Now that its up? Its fantastic. Solid. No more shake or wobble that you get at a public park's goal. The hoop is sturdy. The backboard is large and you can tell it has a steel frame. Very pleased and impressed with this purchase.

Terrible instructions

The instructions are the worst. The parts are not to scale and they refer to everything as ABC and ABJ but the parts don't have labels on them. The fit for the backboard is so tight that if you tighten all the parts as instructed prior to trying to attach you have to take everything back apart again. There isn't a single video on this website or all of Youtube to show if your using the wrong screws since, once again its label in three letter combinations that aren't on the parts. If this company had an simple 8 to 10 minute instruction video laying out the parts and how to fasten together it would be much better.

Is there a video on how to put lifetime50 inch portable adjustable basketball hoop together

Hi I just bought this system and tomorrow I want to assemble it but the directions are pretty intense and I was wondering did lifetime ever get around to updating a video for customers to help put the LIFETIME ADJUSTABLE PORTABLE BASKETBALL HOOP (50-INCH POLYCARBONATE) Model: 71566 together becouse the instructions are not that good and confusing. But the hoop set up looks amazing and I just want to put it together for my kids without missing a step or using the wrong screws or something and have to take it all apart again. Thank you and I’ll be waiting for your res once and hopefully some good news. Please email me back thanx

Was soooo excited

Bought this in September but due to life, we just put it together after sitting in our garage in the box. Loved hearing the sound of the basketball hitting the pavement in our driveway but after less than 24hrs of "lite" use from myself and our 10yr old, the hoop will not stay up. It's like the adjustment piece came loose and won't catch, my husband tried tightening it and it will not stay up. So bummed, this was our son's birthday gift and not a cheap purchase for it to last for such a short amount of time :(

Nice goal; Instructions could be better

I'm very handy, but during assembly, I got confused twice. One confusion resulted in having to undo and redo assembling quite a bit because I got the poll backwards with the rim hanging over the base. Oops! The problem could have been easily avoided with a change in the picture in section 2.2 where you connect the poll to the base. It does say "with the lip...," but a better picture (even with the lip identified) would have helped. Another section is clearly wrong. In section 6.1, the "Right Frame Pad (BAB)" is clearly pictured differently than the Right Frame Pad under "Parts Required." In the picture in Section 6.1, Left and Right are reversed. As a final comment, the self-drilling screws are very hard to install with a rechargeable, battery drill. A corded drill would be much better.

Great Hoop!

Very solid construction. Backboard is nice and big. Height adjustment works easily and smoothly. As to the comments about instructions, I disagree about them being "horrible". The instructions were actually quite clear and easy to follow. You need to pay attention to the pictures and diagrams (notice where screw holes are positioned prior to putting pieces together, etc.) and read all of the instructions in each step. If you do that, then you shouldn't have any issues. Just a few times where you need someone else to hold / help put big pieces together.
