Customer reviews for Lifetime 50" Polycarbonate Adjustable In-Ground Basketball Hoop forVerified Purchase
High quality product
Lots of pieces but not difficult to assemble if one is careful. Very nice appearance and high-quality finish on all components. Only two concerns: 1) Directions are thorough but require lots of referencing back and forth to be sure the correct component is being used. I only made one mistake, and it was fairly easy to correct. 2) The plastic on the backboard is fairly thin, about 1/4'. Strength comes from the steel frame. Be aware that this is NOT a heavy, solid plastic backboard like those you encounter in schools and rec centers. Seems to work well. Grandkids love it.

Terrible Support, Still haven't received replacement part
I purchased this as a Christmas present for the kids. Instructions are straightforward and simple enough. Got the post in the ground, the hoop mostly assembled, but action grip adjustment handle simply did not work. The mechanism for the adjustment trigger was too tight and with some strength could be squeezed in but would never release. I tried and tried, but nothing would work to make it slide in and out as intended. Got on a support call, wasted about an hour waiting for someone on the other line to pick up. Phone call was ok and I was able to communicate the problem and she asked for pictures. I sent a video to demonstrate the issue. Then she went silent. Next day I email again asking her if there was an update, immediately I get a reply that said "I will send all new parts thank you". Great news, but maybe a little more info would be helpful, i.e. if parts are in stock, when i can expect shipment, how long will shipping take, etc. I asked for a little more details but no response. 2 days later i get an email for an "order confirmation". So at least I have some proof that one day I will receive the parts, but nothing regarding shipment, tracking number, etc. Not sure if this means it is just in their system or if it is on the way. Meanwhile my kids ask me every hour when I can finish the 75% assembled hoop that is taking up room in the garage. Emailed again a day later to ask if the parts had shipped or if there was any other update. Crickets. So now on almost a week later and I don't even know if parts have made it out the door yet. Extremely frustrating simply because of lack of communication. A few lines in an email giving me an ETA would certainly make it much easier on your customer. Very disappointing experience. Can't say anything of the hoop yet. As of now, would not plan on purchasing from Lifetime again.
We are very sorry for your frustrations, if you would email me with your full name and confirmation number I can check on these parts for you. Again, we are very sorry for the delay and frustrations.

My new hoop system
It should have frame to bolt on instead of complete in ground pole. The edge protectors has holes which is good but not the back board which makes hard to drill The instructions are bit confusing and images are small on some pages. It should be clear and big so the customer can understand. Overall, it looks good and best value for the money. I just bought and installed it this week. Let's hope it will look good in years to come.

great buy and not that hard to assemble
The back goal is really not that hard to put together. The instructions could be a little clearer, and everybody may not have some of the tools needed. But all in all the goal system seems to be a good one. I would highly recommend that you buy the " in ground sleeve" I did and have only set the sleeve in concrete so far.

Seems sturdy, good value for money.
Seems sturdy, have an high/middle/elementary baskeball loving boys on it everyday. The first package arived in terrible shape. The Fed-Ex driver was so honest to warn me of the same . It was sent back. When reported the walmart staff made arrangement for a new expedited delivery which arrived soon. Packing instruction should be improved ie. main pole 1-2-3 should be labelled. One nut was missing, brought it from lowes. You will need 5.5 bags of 80 lb cement. Holding good for the first week. Rust is the main concern from all the earlier review. Will keep posted on the same.

Nice price, hard set up
This basketball hoop does the trick for a nice price BUT beware... set up was a nightmare. My husband is extremely handy and this gave him so much trouble. The instructions sucked, he had to compromise many times. It took him a total of 4 hours to put this together.
We are sorry to hear that you had trouble assembling your basketball system. If you still have any questions, we would love to help. Please email us at reviews@lifetime.com.

Exactly what you expect.
Read the reviews -- ALL the reviews -- and you will get a really good picture in your mind of what to expect. The basket ball goal seems to be of good quality -- but there are challenges you must face during the build stage... The box the item is shipped in is terribly flimsy. Luckily, nothing fell out of my box, and the backboard was not broken. THURSDAY AFTERNOON: We took everything out of the box, and laid it out in the garage for easy picking when needed. Inventory went well (we actually had some extra parts), but the plastic bags are NOT labeled to show what is inside. This leaves a little bit of guess work, and is irritating. There is already printing on the bags -- Lifetime should just print the part numbers on the bag for easy identification. FRIDAY AFTERNOON: The first step is to dig a huge hole, and use 15 bags of 50# cement. We only used 11 bags of cement, despite following the directions exactly. While the concrete set for the next three days, we assembled the basketball goal in the garage. SATURDAY: Despite the instructions saying three adults could put this basketball goal together, we were challenged with four adults. The first few pages of the instructions only show 2 or 3 parts and are easy to follow -- but the instructions become much more complicated with the turn of each page. Images are too small and not detailed enough to figure out exactly what needs to be done. Be ready to take things apart after you install them! Also, I used a 4-pound sledge hammer, and used the outside wall of my brick house to try to seat the poles as instructed -- it's simply not possible, as the 2x4 piece of wood eventually split in half (and the poles were STILL not seated as required by the instructions). SUNDAY: Day of rest. Mother's Day. We couldn't work on it at all, because our mothers and wives are so darned demanding... :) MONDAY AFTERNOON: We put the final parts together, and installed the poles with the previously described 4-pound sledge hammer. Again, it is not possible to install the poles as instructed, as the second piece of wood split in three places (and the poles were STILL not seated as required by the instructions). SUGGESTIONS: 1) The edges of the backboard are EXTREMELY SHARP -- I cut myself twice on Monday afternoon (completely filleted my index finger once, and just a normal cut on my thumb a second time). I did not see a warning in the instructions, and it would be really easy for Lifetime to simply bevel the sharp edge a little to get rid of that razor sharp edge! 2) Lifetime needs to include the thickness of the powder coat in their assembly process. There is absolutely NO WAY we could have assembled this basketball goal without that 4-pound sledgehammer. Bolts didn't fit into holes without several taps from the sledgehammer. The three part 10-inch pole never did properly fit together -- even WITH the 3-pound sledgehammer. 3) Lifetime needs to reconsider the order in which the parts are installed. It is nearly impossible to install the raising/lowering arms on the 10-inch pole with the backboard and hoop already installed. The hoop should be installed LAST, so you can lay the backboard FLAT and easily install the raising/lowering arms on the 10-inch pole. 4) After getting to page 44 of the instructions (with only 7 pages to go), we decided to ignore the instructions, take OFF the raising/lowering arm, and install the basketball goal in the order that actually makes sense. After we deviated from the instructions, the assembly went very smoothly and without much stress. In all, we spent about 8 hours putting it all together (not including time waiting for the concrete to dry). The finished product is AWESOME -- my three kids and I absolutely love it! Just be prepared to be frustrated (and add some blood, sweat, and tears) during the assembly process. :)

Nice once up, but difficult to assemble
My husband is great at building things and assembling items, however this one was quite difficult. The directions were awful! There were several times when he had to take it back apart because he realized that something was in the wrong spot. The directions weren't very clear on which poles went where. They didn't have a size comparison differentiating the poles or even labels on the poles. It was trial and error on where they went. It took several hours for assembly due to lack of clarity on the directions. Once up, my family loved it. It seems a little more wobbly than I expected, but that may be the way it's supposed to be.
We can help with assembly questions or any other product questions you may have. I apologize that you had trouble, we are continually trying to improve our instructions but, I agree, they are not perfect. Please call us at 800-225-3865 Monday to Friday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. or Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (MST) or shoot us an email at customercare@lifetime.com

When the item arrived to my home I was very concerned because the box was in shambles. So much extra clear tape was used to hold the cardboard box together. I appreciate the effort fedex made to try and keep the contents inside the box. However I was very concerned that something might have fallen out that I took a few pictures of the box just as I found it in my garage. Putting it together: first, all the parts were still inside the clear tape.....errr....ahhhh....I mean box. Directions are pretty straight forward and I put the whole thing together by myself. It took me about 3 1/2 hrs. A few of the screws and nuts didn't match the pictures of actual size that were suppose to but no biggie. Common sense will get you thru those small issues. Keep the concrete on the firmer side when installing the bottom pole portion. This will definitely help in the efforts to keep the pole from sinking or leaning if the concrete is too wet. I used a old school ruler to put thru the bottom pole slots to ensure the pole was aligned with the playing surface and a small level with a magnet to make sure the pole remained level in the concrete while drying this way I didn't need to disturb it unless I saw it became unleveled. My husband and a male family member lifted the goal up and set it on the bottom pole. I was the eyes helping to align the slot with the hole. They held the goal in place while I put the screw in. I would strongly recommend 2 healthy men putting the goal on the bottom pole especially since it is so top heavy. It's a strength and balance act. Anyway, we love it and the ease of adjusting the height was amazingly simple. Very happy with our purchase :)

Descent Product But.....
The overall product and it's quality was about what I expected. However, the package arrived at my door severely damaged with large holes in the box. As a result, I later found out I was missing hardware. I contacted the company and had to get new hardware sent to me about a week later. They also sent me new instructions which did not match the instructions I received in the package. After another call to customer service the package I received was an older version and older instructions. While the over product was fine the installation process and the customer service was not something I want to do again......
Well, I'm glad you love your system, but I'm sad you had such a hard time with assembly and instructions. I am going to send this to our customer service team so we can work on improving the overall experience. Thanks for your feedback!
