EZ Seed is working

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] EZ Seed is working in a area that is hard to grow grass. We spread the seed mid October and the new grass is starting to grow now in November. Hopefully is spring here in Michigan the grass will be thicker.

Grass came up quick, does not cover area stated

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The grass seed came up in about a week and filled in fairly quick considering I did this in late October. The mulch did help it stay moist. The biggest issue I had was that it says covers up to 85 sq ft and I'm not sure it even covered 60 sq ft. Given the cost of this product and the amount that it covered, it isn't the greatest value. But if you just have small patches to fill in and need it to fill in quickly, this will work for you.

Excellent and easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have tried this product in the past and have had good success. This Spring I got it out on the lawn in late March and it has started growing and becoming pretty thick in a hurry. The product is easy to spread and when watered, it does thicken and absorb the water to allow for excellent germination. Highly recommend it!

Easy to Use and it works

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Product comes in a plastic bottle that is not too heavy to use easily. You should prepare your yard by raking up dead grass and loosen any hard soil. Then just sprinkle the seeds, making sure to do a good watering afterwards. Instructions on watering are thorough and should be followed for best results. It's a good product for those bare spots in the lawn.

Expensive but does the job

The mix is really light and does work, but keeping it alive is another story. I tried to grow grass on the edge of my lawn by the street. Nothing grows! Except this...then it died too. It's expensive for what you are getting. It's seed, starter fertilizer and light moss/cardboard/wood shreddings (I think). You can create your own mix for a lot less. It's convenience to have this mix and it's also "guarantee to grow." But it's NOT guarantee to stay alive. Best of luck!

nice green grass

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got my grass seed - raked the ground in worn & shady areas where I had trouble growing grass - put the seed down - covered it with dirt - watered it = nice green grass -- very happy it is growing where it wouldn't before

Quick & Easy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I get a 5' x 2' bare spot on my front lawn every summer caused by the sun's reflection from one of my large windows. The grass gets burned up and by early fall there is just a patch of compact dirt. I have irrigation but the magnifying effect of the window is just too much for the grass to handle. I usually use Scotts Turfbuilder Lawn Soil and Scotts Pacific Northwest Mix for repairs and it does it great job. This year however I was offered a chance to try out Scotts EZ Seed Patch & Repair through the Root program. It was very easy to use and all I did was rough up the bare patch with a metal rake and sprinkle the Scotts EZ Seed Patch & Repair over the area. I kept the area lightly watered and in about 10 days little green spikes were starting to poke through the absorbent growing material. Within 3 weeks the grass was long enough to mow and after 3 mowings the patch had completely blended into the existing grass. The quality of the grass is very nice and the whole process required minimal effort.

Scott's EZ Seed

I used this product several times to fill in some smaller bare spots. I carefully followed the directions. The grass came up, but did not hold up for any length of time. Soon I saw it dying off and it did not come back the following year. After its growth, I watered it from time to time if rainfall was sparse. I found this product disappointing. Perhaps there is something I did incorrectly. If so, I wish I knew what it was. It is certainly a convenient product and wish it had worked for me.

reply from Scotts Consumer Service

We apologize that you experienced problems while using Scotts EZ Seed Sun & Shade. Unfortunately, we cannot be certain why your grass has died after growing well at first. Once they start growing, grass seedlings may succumb to environmental factors such as disease, insects, or extremes of temperature and moisture. This is not necessarily evidence of inferior grass seed, as even superior grass types are subject to natural stresses. Maintaining constant soil moisture is the most critical factor in the success of a new seeding, both before and after germination. Even though the seed germinated, the soil may have dried out for a short time after it was up and growing. Two enemies of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, please make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass. If you see the grass ailing, I recommend that you contact a local nursery for help with diagnosis. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please contact us to see what can be done. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use this product every year as a I have 2 dogs and come spring I have quite a few brown patches. I clear out the dead spots add a little top soil and the grass grows right back. Very pleased with the results.
