Opening the package my wife and I were attacked by a strong fishy smell, so we marinated the 2 fillets in lemon juice for a couple of hours. Then we cooked them but they still had a fishy taste, so we threw them in the trash together with the rest of the package.

The frozen tilapia filets are very convenient for quick meal preparation. However, I have found that some of the individual packages did not always have intact vacuum seals. In some cases, the air caused oxidation of the lipids resulting in a slight "rancid fish" flavor. Thorough rinsing of the filet removes most of the off flavor but don't expect "fresh-caught" quality. I still purchase these but usually cook them using strong flavors (e.g. ginger, soy sauce, etc.) to mask the rancidity.

The tilapia fillets (IMO) are huge and the quality of the last couple of bags I’ve purchased has been absolutely A1. I am eating low carb and, once properly thawed, this tilapia is quick to cook and break up over a micro-green salad with a homemade chipotle sauce (1 can chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, 1 cup of mayo {you could replace mayo with sour cream or plain yoghurt}, juice of 1 lime, 1 to 2 cloves of garlic, and a pinch of salt or not; placed in a blender or food processor until creamy and well blended—this sauce is super spicy).

High quality at a good price! Nice size portions.

Decent, but not as good as the salmon.
