what happened?

We use to love this product. I ate it first it was delicious. A few hours later got really nauseous. Thought nothing of it. The next day, we had it for breakfast with eggs and toast. Hours later, both my husband and I became nauseous. I don't want to blame this product but, well...

Pretty darn good for being canned

The reviews of it not looking like the picture on the canned are spot on....looks nothing like that. That being said, it was pretty darn tasty and went well with the rice I mixed it in with. I plan on buying some more and adding to pizza and also to make sandwiches with. Give it a try, no its not "premium" and no it doesn't look like a 1 pc cut of ham, it is chunk ham pressed together....and nothing wrong with that. This is worth the price and I plan on buying monthly for my rice dishes.

DAK is what it claims: premium ham.

I've been eating DAK Ham for over 35 years. It works any time of thee day: breakfast; dinner; and supper. Dak is great with your morning eggs no matter how you fix your eggs. Do you like Cuban Black Beans and Rice? You'll like this dish even better with chunks of DAK Ham added to it. If you want a quick snack, slice some DAK, place it upon fresh bread or buns with your favorite mustard, and enjoy. You cannot go wrong with DAK Canned Ham.

chopped pressed ham chunks

Pretty much like Spam but not as good tasting, and this DAK is more expensive per ounce. There seems to be a lot more fat in the DAK than in even generic spam-like products. Spam-type cans are 12 ounces, the DAK is 16 ounces. Hormel Spam is $2.50 per can (20.8 cents per ounce) on walmart.com Great Value Canned spam-style is $2.00 per can on here ($16.7 cents per ounce). Our local dollar$store has decent generic spam for about $1.67. So, go figure on the cost per ounce versus this DAK at nearly 24.8 cents per ounce. We thought these used to be an actual slab of ham in a can. I guess either our memories were incorrect or DAK has changed.

Too Much Fat and other by-products,Not Enough Meat

While one would expect fat in such a product, there was too much fat and other by-products in this product.( I purchased multiples, to have on hand in the event of a prolonged power outage since I live in Hurricane territory) The only thing I think this product is good for is ala cooking beans in a crockpot or over a campfire. For lunch sandwiches in slices or making ham salad, I would recommend purchasing a better quality ham product.

DAK Fully Cooked Premium Ham, 16 oz.

DAK ham was DEEELISH!!! Poured the juice of a can of pineapple chunks in a saucepan. Then added a cup of dark brown sugar. Heated the mixture on medium high and stirred until it formed a syrup. Added the pineapple chunks to caramelize them. Sliced the ham into half inch thick slices, and poured the pineapple mixture over the ham. Placed in the toaster oven at 325°F for 20 minutes, and "voila!" Perfect Christmas ham for my grandson and myself!!! Sooo sorry I did'nt take a picture.

Not Exactly Ham

This is not the ham you know and love. but then again, maybe it's not supposed to. It looks like, tastes like, and has a texture very much like Spam. It has a long shelf life, which is why I purchased a couple of dozen cans--for dire emergency situations in which the food supply is disrupted. I bought it just in case, and other than opening a can to sample, the rest is stored away in my dry basement. It's not a bad product, and it probably is technically ham, but you probably won't want it for your daily breakfast. I'm giving it four starts becasue its perfect for what it actually is. Just not excactly ham.

All 3 cans split open at the seams

I received this order on May 11. I ordered dry soup mix, plastic sandwich bags and 3 canned hams. I store all of my canned goods on shelves in the garage. About 2 weeks after the delivery, my garage started stinking. Today I finally found the source of the odor: all three hams, which were in the back on the lowest shelf, had been leaking from the seams of the cans and there were MAGGOTS all over them as well as the other foods stored next to them! A horrible, disgusting mess and the loss of not only the cost ($3.97 each) of the hams but the other food in the pantry that they leaked onto. REVOLTING.

Poor handling.?

The shipment arrived packed in an over sized box with one 12 inch by 8 inch sheet of Kraft brown paper. The items were allowed to move freely within the box. Several items were dented. When I was ready to open the can containing the ham several days later, I noticed the tear back lid had a cease in it and was not completely sealed. It is my feeling that the damage occurred in the shipping and not at the manufacturing site. The total order was discarded. Better to be safe than sorry. Food poisoning is not a happy thing for humans or animal.

Really great!!

I don't know what the couple of people that gave such terrible reviews of this product were expecting from a $4 ham but for what it cost this is excellent. If you got a bad one do what you would do with any other product. Return or throw away the bad one and try again. (Especially if you said that you had bought good ones before. If you've never made a mistake in your life THEN and ONLY then can you say it's uncalled for!! I found the hams I bought to be fine. I've never had a problem with DAK hams. If you are looking for a better ham go ahead and pay $20 - $30 for one that's your option.
