Not Ham - Large Spam

I was very disappointed with this product. I thought canned ham would look and taste like HAM. This does NOT! It is more like Spam than Ham. I happen to like Spam, which is why I gave the three stars. However, I was expecting HAM. This is not what I was looking for at all! The picture on the can is also very deceiving.

Great Product - Terrible Shipping

I ordered a dozen cans of this ham with free shipping. The product arrived on a timely basis. The packing was poorly done. Two of the cans had to be returned to a retail store location. One of the casn was dented so badly that the product was exposed and leaking into the shiping carton. I ordered online because of the convenience. If I have to go to the store to return something it defeats the purpose.

What happened to canned ham

My mother would make canned ham all the time and it was good but this isn't. Doesn't even taste or look like ham. Canned ham like all canned meats have taken the plunge into grabage. Your dog would turn his nose to this might even bite you for serving such junk.

works well in my navy bean and ham soup

Bought this and agree, its alot like spam. I adapted my recipe for bean and ham soup to accomodate. 1lb small navy beans (got mine at the dollartree) did the quick soak method, rinsed and put in my pressure cooker with 6 cups chicken broth (I used water and bullion cubes) 2 carrots, 2 celery, a small portion of onion, dash of garlic salt, salt and pepper. 1/2 tsp allspice. (dash of liquid smoke optiional) cook this WITHOUT ham for 40 mins at 10lbs pressure. open pressure cooker per manufacture instructions. Cut 1/2 of can in cubes and add to beans. Cook another 10-15 mins. easily feeds 4-6

Will Do

this canned ham is ok. However it appears to be made of trimmings and other parts that don't come from the best parts of the pig. It is ground up and pressed together to fit the can. It doesn't even have a true ham flavor. The price is reasonable and it is good to have a few cans in the pantry for sandwiches or whatever.

Somewhat impervious to walmarts deplorable shiping

It's ok when you cannot get fresh ham but it amounts to a big can of spam more or less. It does survive the deplorable shipping Walmart currently has so you can be relatively sure it will arrive unopened no matter how badly they pack the box, hopefully.

it's not a chunk of ham , but it is delicious!!!!

this is good ham pieces ground into a paste with added ham fat. Ham is the only ingredient on the can. Don't expect solid meat for this price. I use it to make ham salad and I eat a can a week. Just mix this, mayo, sweet relish, and clove. YUM for my TUM!! --faye kane ♀ girl brain

Decent product for the price

I think this product is getting a lot of unnecessary flak. For the price it is a good canned meat product. It is perfect for keeping stored for emergency situations, contains a decent amount of fat (which is IMPORTANT!) and is also meaty. Yes, the meat is pressed chunks, but if handled gingerly can be fried up nice and brown and served or eaten out of the can in a pinch. The taste is good, if you like salty canned meats. If you are looking for some sort of gourmet product for everyday consumption, or to serve to your guests, look elsewhere. This is a canned meat, and you get what you pay for, but it isn't bad.

Exceeded my expectations

I wasn't sure what expect based on other reviews. I bought 3 cans at under $4/can at Walmart so I opened one. I found ham chunks compressed into shape with marbled fat between the chunks. The smell was of fresh ham and quite pleasant. It looked good and smelled good. My wife and I ate a 1/2" square piece cold. We both liked it. The predominant texture was of ham and we did not notice any fat. I thought it had a light saltiness. My wife thought it was more salty than I did. I cut a 3/8" thick slice length way and put it in the frying pan. While it cooked I found myself cutting cold pieces off the main piece of ham and consumed quite a bit by the time the slice was cooked. Once cooked the slice took on more of an appearance of whole ham fried in a skillet. After tasting it hot I must say I would enjoy it with some scrambled eggs and hash browns. Overall, this ham is great for camping, everyday use, and long term storage. Nice product, fantastic price. My only criticism is the product in no way resembles the picture on the can. Other than that, I am happy and will buy 6 more for emergency provisions.

I have been buying Dak can hams for a while but the last 3 cans I bought had big chunks of white fat or grease. It was awful when you bit into it. I have never had this problem before. I thought I would bring this to your attention. I am hoping it was a bad batch. Thank you.
