I think this product is getting a lot of unnecessary flak. For the price it is a good canned meat product. It is perfect for keeping stored for emergency situations, contains a decent amount of fat (which is IMPORTANT!) and is also meaty. Yes, the meat is pressed chunks, but if handled gingerly can be fried up nice and brown and served or eaten out of the can in a pinch. The taste is good, if you like salty canned meats. If you are looking for some sort of gourmet product for everyday consumption, or to serve to your guests, look elsewhere. This is a canned meat, and you get what you pay for, but it isn't bad.

See my photo of this mess, and compare it to the photo on the label of the product can. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is nothing but chunks of fat pressed together with chunks of light and dark meat. Has a grey, off-color appearance. VERY salty, does not hold up well when heated; turns to mush. I'm especially befuddled because I lived in Europe for five years and I am used to high standards in European foods. I was expecting something similar to the Dubuque canned ham my mother used to purchase when I was a child. Instead, I received something which tastes and cooks worse than SPAM. I bought this over the internet and had it shipped to my home because Walmart is so far away. It appears there is no mechanism for me to report this as an inferior product and get my money back or a credit issued.

There is some fat in it.. not as lean and as tasty as packaged sandwich sliced ham. Some fat mixed in. Wish it was lower sodium. But its good.. serves its purpose. I open it and leave it to dry out a tad in the refrig.. seems to add some flavor and firm it up nicely.

Denmark canned ham. I expected to see a large muscle of ham and the usual jelled mixture of fat and ham, like spam but less salty which filled in the gaps to form a canned shape ham. All canned hams fill in the smaller gaps with the mixture. Not one muscle of ham was found. It was all soft chopped luncheon meat and not worth the price. Chopped ham luncheon meat is far cheaper at half the price. Never will I throw away my money on this.

Bought this and agree, its alot like spam. I adapted my recipe for bean and ham soup to accomodate. 1lb small navy beans (got mine at the dollartree) did the quick soak method, rinsed and put in my pressure cooker with 6 cups chicken broth (I used water and bullion cubes) 2 carrots, 2 celery, a small portion of onion, dash of garlic salt, salt and pepper. 1/2 tsp allspice. (dash of liquid smoke optiional) cook this WITHOUT ham for 40 mins at 10lbs pressure. open pressure cooker per manufacture instructions. Cut 1/2 of can in cubes and add to beans. Cook another 10-15 mins. easily feeds 4-6

Bought this with the idea of adding it to my 15 bean soup. When I opened it I thought, 'Gee, this looks like spam'. So I cut off a piece and ate it, and thought 'Gee, this is spam'. If your looking for real canned ham, don't get this. If you like spam and its economically viable to get this instead of spam due to price, then do so. I'm not saying it doesnt taste good. For what it is, it does! It's just more like spam to me then canned ham i'm used to.

Unlike most other canned hams, DAK has less salt in it which allows more pure ham flavor to shine through. Simply the best canned ham in stores. And the texture is more like that of a regular ham than that of a grounded ham that is pressed together such as with SPAM. Delicious on crackers with your favorite garnishes.

It was like a big can of spam rather than ham..I ended up rinsing off a lot of the salt and adding it to my homemade mac and cheese with broccoli to cut the salt and flavor even more..all I can say is if you need a lot of something that tastes like spam and you are not really looking for ham texture and taste this is cheaper than buying the small cans.It is really the first time I have ever bought a canned ham, as I thought it would be better for me now that I am the only one here...I will buy the real ham from now on and jut have them cut it into ham steaks or cook it and freeze some..

When I purchased this ham, I wasn't expecting it to be like a bone-in ham. What I wanted it for was seasoning northern beans or frying it up for breakfast meat. It wasn't capable of being sliced. When I tried to slice it, it just mushed up and fell apart. Also had a horrible taste.

My mother would make canned ham all the time and it was good but this isn't. Doesn't even taste or look like ham. Canned ham like all canned meats have taken the plunge into grabage. Your dog would turn his nose to this might even bite you for serving such junk.
