Cool set

As much as I dislike Technic Lego, the outcome is always super cool and workable, I recommend this to Technic fans.

Very well thought out

I got this set had fun building it and after it was all built I counted the rotations of earth and lunar cycles and they were both spot on with the real numbers. With the total earth rotations being at 365 and the the total lunar cycles being 12.

An amazing model for display and education

As a professor of physics and astronomy, I simply HAD to buy this model. It was fascinating to see how the different clockwork mechanisms came together. I had a blast building this.

Marvelous

This build is one of the most satisfying in both technical achievement and cool factor. The way they made this model work is truly an amazing feat and it is so much fun to have around.

Great, but…

I really liked this set…but…unless you are in the southern hemisphere, the moon phase stickers are wrong (e.g. waxing should be lit up on the right, not the left). I had to peel them back off and cut them to get them accurate, and now they don't look great…maybe Lego could make accurate stickers and send them out if requested?

Building Together

I bought this to have quality time with my 10 year old grandson. I thought I was the expert here, however, I ran into trouble a few times and each time I thought I had to take it apart. He surprised me immensely. He saw where the gears weren't touching and fixed the issue each time. We would do a bag per day to spread out our time together. It used to be as he came through the door to greet his PePaw and I, he always greeted his PePaw first. Now he greets me first. It's proven to be a great way to better bond with my grandson.

Seriously printed details but stickers instead

That is false advertising to say printed details and then have them be stickers Seriously Lego when I opened the box I was expecting to see the printed pieces for the moon phases and the months but when I saw the stickers I was upset and disappointed printed details are supposed to be printed pieces not stickers the Lego set itself was fun to build and see it spin around but when a Lego set or sets have stickers advertise that it has stickers on the product page and possibly also on the box itself so people would not be deceived and disappointed like I was please and thank you!

Excellent Kit

I have wanted an orrery of this sort since I was a kid, and saw them advertised in a scientific hobby catalog. This set is tied with the big Saturn V for the best Lego set ever. While the earth, moon, and sun are out of proportion by necessity, timings of the orbits and spins of the objects are accurately represented (within a few percent). The well-engineered collection of gears, wheels, and axles control five different motions--the sun's rotation, the earth's orbit, the earth's rotation, the direction of earth's tilt, and the moon's orbit (the moon's rotation is fixed with its orbit, so doesn't require more gears. The mechanism runs surprisingly smoothly. I teach astronomy, and I'm contemplating using it as demonstration piece in class this fall.

Another great Lego set!

I've always been fascinated by astrolabes and planetaria so when Lego released this kit, I *KNEW* I needed to build it! The build itself wasn't overly challenging but was still technical enough to keep my attention. OK Lego - now you need to up-the-game and expand this into our entire 8/9 planet solar system!
