I too had 3 or 4 cans that had potatoes that were rotten and black. I had to lose almost all of the potatoes in one can. I have bought the stew from different stores and two separate months. The quality control is obviously slacking if that many bad potatoes got through to be cooked and canned. Sadly, i am not sure I will buy any more.

When a company such as Hormel has been producting this stew for generations that speaks volumes as people such as myself really enjoy the flavor and ingredients that go into the making of this stew. The thickness and the ratio of the beef and vegetables was spot on. The Dinty Moore Beef Stew is fast and easy to prepare as I simply opened the can poured it into a sauce pan and placed on the burner and within just a few minutes I was pouring it into a bowl and sitting down and enjoying the savory taste.

I had it in my mind from trying it before that it had real chunks of beef with fat included and I hated that. What I sampled seems to have pressed beef chunks and it tasted wonderful. One thing I was disappointed in was they call it stew but it only has potatoes and carrots. Where are the other vegetables? Over all I give it 5 stars as it was filling and tasted better then any other brands I have tried.

It looked tempting, the colors were almost exactly as the picture on the cover. It was fast and easy to prepare. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not too long ago, I finished up a bowl of Dinty Moore's beef stew; and, I wanted to offer some thoughts. First, the last time I had the stew was a number of years ago -- before the use of the convenient pop-top lids... back when you had to use a can opener to get to your meal in a can. I noticed a few changes. First, it's now much easier to open the can, which is great. Second, inside the can, the veggies are exactly as I remember... big cuts of carrots, potatoes, etc. However, I seem to remember fairly generous cuts of actual beef. Now, the beef cuts seem smaller, and fewer. Also, they seem more like pressed meat chunks rather than beef. After putting the stew in a Mic-safe bowl and heating it up, I can say the taste is pretty similar to what I remember. However, for some reason, I remember a fuller taste, maybe more herbs and spices. But, I could be mistaken. I added fresh-ground pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder to the stew to liven it up a bit. I even added a dash of hot sauce to it. The meal was quite satisfying overall and filling. I'm not generally picky about meals. So, I enjoyed the stew, would buy it again, and would recommend it to others looking for a quick, filling, low-cost meal.
