I had been storing some documents in a metal lockbox and others in an accordion file. It is nice to have all my documents in one place and feel that they are protected. The safe actually fit a lot more than I expected given some of the other reviews.

Not really sure yet. I called to register the product. I do not know if there will be mildew or dampness build up yet as with the lock safes. I wrapped all photos and papers in wax paper hoping to avoid damage from moisture. Trying to preserve the photos and lifetime documents. I am not the one to ask. I believe it weighs around 32 lbs.

I bought this safe today for important documents. The safe itself is perfect but the handle/lock was loose and made of plastic. Also, when testing the lock, I had trouble getting the key to go in the hole. Once I got it in, I had to jiggle the key to get it to unlock. I am going to return this safe.

Has not changed much in 30 years - that is good. Bought a model 1170 30 years ago, and, this model is almost the same. No need to change a good thing. Remember this is a fire safe NOT A SECURITY SAFE. Anybody can open this thing up. UL rated for 1/2 hour at 1550 degrees F. If you need a security safe get a KNAACK box; also get a good lock for it, to keep out the bad guys. A KNAACK box is just as hard to get into as a low, to medium quality safe, and costs a lot less.

Arrived to my front door by FedEx. No problems with the safe. Latch works, no dents or dings. Keys work. Perfect size to keep important papers safe during fire. A little lighter than I expected, but great little safe for the price. Tucks away nicely in corner of closet - out of the way. Will last 30 minutes in a 1550 temp fire, and possibly the 30 foot fall (since I live on a second floor) to the bottom floor if fire burns through. Possibly protect water damage as a result of firemen putting out the fire... Am using in addition to two fire resistant bags for extra heat and fire protection. Has lifetime after fire replacement included in the deal, so if I ever have a fire I can get a replacement at no cost. The safe will pay for itself in one month since I no longer have to pay for a safety deposit box - monthly!

I wanted to buy this for a while so we can save our important documents , passport etc is case of fire or flood. This is I will say medium size and good for couple's or single person to save there important stuff.. Its really heavy so I had to ask my husband to pick it up. Its exactly as shown in pic & worth it. I saved it in favorites for some months as soon as I saw price went lower to $33.95 I just bought it without thinking.

This is a good quality safe for what I need it for, with sturdy construction. I knocked off two stars because the safe came in no official packaging, had white power all over and inside of it, and the latch was bent. I was able to bend it back into place, but this one seems like it was sold and returned, then resold to me. Or maybe this is how it was sent to Walmart. Either way, I'll just clean it off and continue to use it, since it doesn't seem to be damaged or defective in any way.

My former fire-proof box was too small to hold all my important documents without folding, and left them unorganized. This size box allows you to put in standard hanging file holders, with labels, to get everything in neatly. True, it's not waterproof, but the lip on the lid would keep most water out unless the box was totally submerged. It makes sense, but it's a little annoying that you cannot remove the key unless the box is locked. My only real gripe is that it has no handles of any sort. Once it is filled and the lid is shut, it has a smooth surface on all sides that make it difficult to move around. I guess this is a mild theft-deterrent, but not much of one.

I am very happy with this safe. It holds more than I thought it would. It feels substancial and gave me a lot of peace of mind. The fireproof factor is great! I also love that I can keep my most sensitive documents private when I have house or pet sitters. It keeps them organized too! Regular hanging files (not included) fit in comfortably. I used the ones I already had. I like the black color. It doesn't stand out. As the old saying goes "You can't put a price on peace of mind". The price of this safe is a bargain.

Love the firesafe. Had read positive reviews and am very happy with it. It is large enough for lots of papers or electronic media. You can hang files on it too. My only complaint is that the original box came shipped to my home from Walmart and it was badly damaged. The firesafe was broken as well as all of the packing materials around it. Not sure if it was the shipping company (Fed Ex) or the packing at Walmart. I took it to my local store and they gladly exchanged it since they had it in stock.
