Overall it is a reasonable safe for the money on today’s market for its size, and for low / low - medium level of burglary and fire protection. Three adjustable shelves with approximately ½ inch spacing adjustment are very convenient. It is also appreciated that the entire interior and the shelves are covered into thick soft fabric. Electronic lock is easy to program and operate. However, safe’s usable interior dimensions are significantly smaller than its actual interior dimensions. Door panel and all locking deadbolts are protruding into interior, and are taking away about 1.5 inch of interior depth; and the shelves are only 11 inches deep. Water tight sealing in the door jamb only covers about 5/6 of the sides and the bottom of the door; and water still can enter the interior from top section of the door frame if sprayed from the fire extinguishing devices. The water tight gasket material has appeared to be stressed, and permanently compressed raising a question about its efficiency. Also the bolt down holes at the bottom of the safe do not have any features to provide their water tightness if used or not. Two holes on a back side of safe are also providing water access into safe’s interior. Contrary to picture in advertisement, the backup key is archaic 5 inch long skeleton key. It is highly inconvenient to put it on a key chain and carry it as a backup. Also, key hole is easily accessible by removal of the electronic key pad without much effort or tools. And the skeleton key type door lock is easy target for picking by somewhat experienced burglar. An additional point of concern is that the safe has arrived with very strong chemical odor in its interior. The naphthalene alike odor was so strong, that the safe could not be used right away. It took a heavy duty vacuuming, heavy application of extra strength Febreze, and keeping safe open for several days to bring odor to somewhat tolerable level.

Not solid steel as thought. Lighter weight steel - concrete filled. Okay for home use.

I've had great luck with SentrySafes so the product itself is just fine. The interior space is right at 4.68, so I'll let them round up to 4.7. HOWEVER, comma, the exterior dimensions ARE NOT as advertised. :( The safe is only Sixteen inches wide (16") NOT 19" as advertised. The safe is only Twenty and a half inches (20.5") deep, and NOT 21.7. I might not argue much about an inch on the depth. It's not much, but an inch is an inch. However, I will express my extreme disappointment with the safe being short 3 inches across. I REALLY needed those 3 inches. If I had known the safe was going to be so much smaller than advertised I would have opted for a different model (perhaps a different brand). I'm going to mark the recommend box as a YES. But, that comes with a caveat emptor that the next person who buys this safe needs to understand that the external size is NOT as advertised.

I store a few guns and then paperwork and other personal items. The safe is seldom opened. After a few years, the dial mechanism will not open due to a design flaw. Since this is over one year from purchase, Sentry will not fix or replace the safe. Their only recommendation was to hire a locksmith. I would not recommend this or any other produce due to their inability to stand behind their product.

I love this safe as I’ve built a enclosure for it to fit in specifically for documents and weapons. Only problems so far is , it didn’t come with any type of key to unlock in case of an emergency ( skeleton ) I guess I need to contact customer service. So far so good though.

Purchased this safe on 12/29/15 and it arrived in just under two weeks. Weighs quite a bit, so make sure to have a hand truck or dolly. FedEX didn't do the best job shipping. The truck didn't have a lift which made it hard for three grown men to safely bring the safe to ground. The box was mangled and laying face down which likely was the cause for it being delivered damaged. They keypad frame and housing are plastic so they were cracked. The lower clips which held the circuit board and keypad in place also cracked making the bottom button sink in when pressed. Luckily the manufacturer, Sentry Safe, is a top notch company. They immediately sent a replacement keypad frame assembly after a polite inquiry about the matter. Replacement part arrived within 5 business days, even though their email said it would take 7-10 business days. Overall, I'm satisfied in both the product and the customer service of Sentry Safe.

We needed a larger fire resistant safe, and researched several different manufacturers and models. The EF4738E is rugged, secure, and the digital keypad is much more conveinent than the combination lock of our previous safe. The ETL (third party) verification was also important, althought the lack of any industry fire protection rating standards make it difficult to compare with other manufacturers.

The safe is very nice, It is perfect for what I need it for. I would have given 5 stars but the safe has an odor inside that is nauseating, it is a very strong chemical odor. I think it is from the glue used to adhere the carpet to the inside of the safe. it has aired out for 3 days and still very strong smell. you can not put anything in it that would adsorb the odor leather (holsters, cloth, wood). I had it placed in my bed room now I had to buy air fresheners to sleep. If the smell does not go away it will cost me more money to have the safe moved and not be able to use it. I will up date review in a week or two if i find a solution. Sentry Safe are more than welcome to send a rep to come and smell it or give me a fix to the problem. If not for the odor I would of recommed the safe.

I really was looking forward to the size of the safe it was delivered slightly damaged but has worked well until now. I tried to access it as I keep my medications in there put of reach of small children as well as valuables. The handle snapped off in my hand. I tried the skeleton key to maybe try to manually open it and it won't even turn. Super disappointing. Hopefully will hear back from sentry for a trick if not I now have to call a locksmith so I can access my daily medications. Teach me next time to keep them safe and out of reach I guess.

I love the save because it’s the exact size I need for my personal stuff. But I’ve been working for two days to get my safe to close it would lock when the door was open but it wouldn’t lock on the door was closed. I called century save and the girl told me I needed to lay it on its back for 72 hours because the gasket swells if you leave the door open, and yes, I had left the door open, I laid it on his back for actually about four days and sure enough today it locked. They need to put this somewhere in their manual or a sticker on the safe to let people know if you leave the safe open that this gasket will swell so you can’t get it locked.
