I have purchased Sam's Prime Ribeye steaks in the past and and have not found them up to the Prime standard. I again purchase two yesterday and the one I grilled was tough, had no taste and would not qualify for as good Choice Ribeye. Really not sure if this was actually a Prime steak. I have also found that when you purchase two as they are packed, one when turned over seems to have an excessive fat strip on the edge. I would contact Sam's directly but as with everyone now a day it is impossible to speak with someone other than thru chat which sometimes turns out to be a joke depending on whom you are chatting with. I will have to purchase my Prime steaks somewhere else in the future.

Member's Mark Prime Beef Ribeye Steak Item 270873 Qty 2.12 lb $46.60 Member's Mark Prime Beef Ribeye Steak Item 270873 Qty 2.19 lb $48.14 Total money lost to what I believe is deception: $94.74 I usually purchase several packages of steaks, take them home, cut them in half and flash freeze them. Then, I vacuum pack them so they last beautifully in the freezer. These two packages of beef, which I purchased along with a package of CHOICE steaks, all looked great. The next day at 3:00 a.m. I started my cutting/freezing process. The choice steaks were great. Firm, red in color, no smell. However, the 2 packages of PRIME steaks had developed a tiny patch of grey color on top. When I took them out of the package, the bottom had large grey patches of color and they had an odor. Fresh meat should not have any odor. These steaks had a bad smell. With the choice steaks right next to them for comparison, there was no doubt. I believe these steaks did not sell in a timely manner and were repackaged to show a later date in order to keep them on the shelf longer. I have seen this done in other meat depts, but it has of yet never happened to me in Sam's. Granted I cannot prove it, but however these steaks ended up for sale, these steaks were NOT fresh. I had to throw them in the trash, as I cannot get back to the store in the freezing temps and icy roads, to return them. Beware. I believe they are repackaging old meat that was on it's last legs. I lost $100. From now on I will only buy meat from Sam's when I know I can get back to the store to return it the next day, no weather issues. I buy a LOT of steak from Sam's. There is no doubt this meat was old. It smelled and was turning color in a major way on the bottom, which traveled through to the top surface of the steaks.

These Prime ribeyes were not some of the best steaks I have eaten; they were the very best. I bought several trays on different days and every steak was evenly and richly marbled, tender to the point of mimicking the tenderloin, and was more flavorful than the ribeyes at fancy steakhouses and high-end markets. When my wife and I served these ribeyes for a special occasion dinner, every guest praised the "wonderful", "delicious", "sensational", "finest" steaks.
