The compost tumbler requires assembly. Plan a day!

After all the parts are assembled, we are making some rich soil. We are glad to have a tumbler to put our scraps, leaves, grass clippings in and also this looks nice.

Love the large size bins!

Loving this tumbling compost bin so far. It is bigger than most which is what I wanted and is easy to tumble. Sturdy frame-work too. It did take 2 people and more time than expected to put it together but it works wonderfully!

So far, so good!

After a lot of research on tumbling composters, I chose this make and model and Sam's had the best price. Assembly took a lot more time than I expected (4 hours), but I am happy with the results.

Good design, poor quality materials.

I purchased this product some years ago. It is one of the more expensive composters. If you want a product that will be functional and great to operate for 6 months to a year you have found it. But if you are expecting one that will continue to be functional for an extended period of time look elsewhere. The metal materials rust and cannot be turned due to corrosion. I continue to use but can no longer rotate bins.

Easy to assemble and waiting for my first batch!

This took me 3-4 hours to put together - I was at a slow pace on a hot summer day.  The instructions were easy to follow.  Per other reviews, I did assemble the base on site of its final home.  I can see how moving it would be difficult.  I have noticed some rust appearing on one end at the aeration bar so will need to contact Customer Service.  I'm a SWF who enjoys small scale gardening and do-it yourself project.  I thoroughly enjoyed assembling this product and recommend it!

Great customer service!

I bought this dual compost tumbler about 5 or more years ago, and although it is still working fine, the pins that lock the bins to keep them from turning between tumbles broke pretty soon after we started using it. Not a big deal if I have a balanced load in there (not always so easy). The bigger issue is that one of the sleeves that holds two of the side panels together has begun to distort so badly I know it will soon give out, in which case that barrel would fall apart. So, on a whim, I called Lifetime customer service to ask whether they had replacement parts, and was astounded to find out that they do, and they are shipping extra sleeves and locking pins to me, no charge! The customer rep I spoke with was very pleasant and helpful. This is such an unexpected experience in this world today that I just had to write a glowing review. I am very impressed and pleased. So, my bins have lasted fairly well all things considered, and the company clearly backs up its products to help customers get many more years out of them. I really do like these composters. Thank, you Lifetime for being the type of company I wish all companies were today that aren’t all about “throw away products.”

Piece of junk

It took a full day to assemble, and then started rusting the moment I started loading compost materials into it. First both metal lid opening assemblies became very stiff and hard to operate, then the metal hinges on one lid started rusting away, and then broke so that the lid fell off, rendering that bin unusable. The hinges on the second lid are heading the same way. The dual-bin tumbler is a cool concept. Execution, not so much.

Worked great at first, but didn't last

When it was shiny and new, this was great. But in about 2 years of use, the clips that control rotation no longer locked into place, the bin leaks gross compost juice from almost every seam, cracks have developed in the joints, and mice (or something) chewed a sizable hole straight through the plastic on one side. Pretty much no longer usable. We didn't use it heavily, and it was in a fairly urban, clean environment.

Excellent Aeration

Quite difficult to put together. If would have been very helpful if each panel had been marked with its part number. It definitely is a two person assembly. As to its function: supurb! Cooking has never been easier. The aeration is terrific from all sides as well as the center. As an added plus, there is no longer any heavy lifting and constant turning over to distribute oxygen. This is a best buy

Pretty Good product.

Overall, this is a good product, but it does have a couple of flaws. The basic design and construction is very good. The unit is sturdy and stable, and the bins rotate freely. I have had mine over a year now, and I agree, the catch mechanism does tend to rust and jam, and definitely should have been made rust proof. By definition, the environment for the catch is going to be damp and corrosive. I fixed (sort of) the issue by spraying the mechanism with WD40 when needed. So far that has kept the catches operating. The other issue is the locking pin. The one on the right just snapped!. This is the bin I use for kitchen scraps, so it got much more use than the other one. In the kitchen I collect organic waste such as peels and cores in a counter top container. When it fills, I empty it into the compost bin, and rotate the bin a few time to mix. I usually stop the bin by letting the locking pin re-engage as the drum rotates. Apparently this is too much for the pin to withstand.
