Great Customer Service Support, Good Product

I've had two issues, including one off-warranty, and I will say Dyson stands behind this vacuum. They respond right away and I've never been more satisfied with the level of service Dyson provides. It is a good product. In hindsight I wish I had a larger dustbin now that I have a Yellow Labrador ;-). Care is required not to empty the bin "too hard" so as not to break off a small, plastic retaining pin.

I am rewriting my initial review

I am rewriting my original review of the V 10 Animal. My first impressions of it after some use was that it seemed cheap and subject to poor battery performance. I also found it loud, the stick flimsy and the canister hard to empty. Now after a couple of years of use and getting use to the vacuum I give this machine a 4 out of 5 and the support team a 5 out of 5. Some of my complaints are still bugging me but with clean filters and power on medium, the vacuum is quieter and battery last for most of the house. It is very convenient leading to quick clean up. This vacuum really does suck:) I give it 4.5 out of 5.

Perfect for Condo Living

I've had my V10 Animal for about three months. I use to have a Big Ball when I lived in a cottage, but this compact cordless model is perfect for my two bedroom condo, the battery charge more than what I usually require to vacuum the whole apartment. However, I do miss having a hardwood floor accessory with soft brittles. I feel this would reach the dust in the seams of my hardwood floor and over the elements at foot level better than the torque drive cleaner head, that is, without having to change accessory. Also, I find the cleaner head a little noisy over my floors. I will admit however that it does a wonderful job on my carpets. If Dyson came out with a soft brittle head for this model, I would be right there buying it. Overall, this is a very good vacuum cleaner.

Excellent.

I bought the v10 animal as I have a dog which sheds hair. The vacuum is excellent. It cleans pet hair perfectly, it's easy to clean the rollers and dirt cylinder. The tools are simple to change and are effective for stairs and hard to get at places. My house as never looked so clean ! Even the cardboard packing was a work of art which could have won the Turner prize ! All in all a well thought out and engineered product..

I Am So Happy!

I had previously owned the Animal upright vacuum. I was very pleased with it, but it became heavy and cumbersome to carry up and down the stairs. When I saw the V10 cordless, I couldn't wait to own one. It is lightweight, so powerful and the charge lasts for cleaning my entire house. It always amazes me how much a Dyson vac can suck out of my carpets. My family has allergies and this vacuum definitely helps to keep the air and carpets cleaner. I highly recommend this product.

Welcome to the 21st Century

I had a cannister vacuum that was still going strong after 19 years. I had one-level living at the time. Then I moved into my new place - with two sets of stairs. Lugging that cannister up and down (once!) made me see the light and purchase a Dyson. Wow! Lightweight yet super powerful, even on my mix of carpet and hard surfaces, and with pets added into the mix. No cord to mind - I love the 21st century! I am extremely please with the purchase, and I join in with others who say "Should have bought it sooner".

Precision leap!

This Dyson Vacuum is much more helpful at keeping a habit of keeping a clean carpet compared with previous vacuum technologies. After a few uses, there were far fewer areas which caused a struggle physically, but far more precision, which helped not damage walls or sensitive areas too!! Cleaning this vacuum was more easy than cleaning some tools which do even less! Ok, there aren't any lasers exlempifying missed areas on this model, but the areas it succeeds in are very developed - that's not common when so much needs cleaning (cleaning microparticles using paper and water would takr years compartively). This models price tag felt well labeled, but anxiety of whether it will not last against tough conditions like some technologies (EV for example) starts and stops. Though it seems likely as well that this V10 model will last the few years (or so) until the next model that feels well placed to purchase releases. Lets see!

Best vacuum

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We purchased our first Dyson cordless vacuum about a month ago and this thing beats anything, including our corded vacuum. Our dog is a shedding machine and the V10 picks all of it up. A bit pricey, but worth the money thus far. The only downside that I can mention is the lack of a head light for the main floor attachment, especially for those dark corners. Despite this "fault", I would highly recommend the V10.

Vacuum Unit is Good, Attachments Somewhat Cheap

The Good: The vacuum unit itself is exceptional, with excellent suction, ease of maintenance, run time, and insofar longevity; it competes well with your average full-sized canister vacuums, which is truly impressive given the size of the Dyson. The hype, on this front, is valid. The Bad: However, the well-built central unit is let down by tools and accessories with components made from fragile, heat-molded plastic. Essentially, only the mechanical drive components are made from metal (I think), but everything else is plastic. While Dyson boasts that the main machine body is made from "ABS Polycarbonate" (think: riot shields), the smaller components seem to be made of high-density polyethylene or similar material. Our smaller motorized head unit suffered a breakage in the head-to-guard joint, which should not be the case for a relatively new, seldom used part. The use of brittle plastic in such a high-wear area by the spinning rotor seems at best poor design, at worst planned obsolescence. I understand that full-metal construction is a thing of the past, but "full-plastic" construction is not a viable alternative; some components need to be metal, full stop. The Ugly: Unfortunately, warranty details are misleading as they apparently do not include the tools, and nowhere in the warranty documentation provided was there a distinction between "tools" and the "unit." While I understand that normal wear-and-tear is to be expected and therefore not covered by warranty, I am disappointed with the craftsmanship of a really expensive product that utilizes non-durable heat-molded plastic for high-stress areas, specifically around moving joints. The concern is that having both motorized head units break renders the unit unable to clean carpet or furniture fabric, reducing 90% of its utility, and will cost you ~$200 extra to purchase the new motorized heads. In closing; a great unit overall, but my confidence in the product is let down by the fragility of the core tools and some of the convenient language of the warranty provided. Either warranty everything you produce or make it clear that the warranty only applies to the literal vacuum itself.

Handy 2nd Vac

I bought the Dyson V10 a month ago as a lightweight supplement to my larger cannister vac. I have a dog that loses a lot of hair. This vac does a very good job in picking up the dog hair. I wish the cannister were a bit bigger though - it fills up in a few minutes. When I do a thorough vacuum to the entire house, I use my other vac. This one is a great option when I just want to clean up a couple of rooms really quickly. And the lightweight is really nice compared to the other heavier vac I have. Satisfied so far with the performance.
