Preserves Everything!

I would consider myself a “scanning enthusiast,” especially after taking the past few years to scan all of my family’s older photos and documents. Scanning the pictures from the 70s to the present was going to be a daunting task that I put off until I got the Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-speed Scanner System. The decades of memories, and years of work that it would have taken to scan each individual picture, was digitized in less than afternoon. This scanner is just completely amazing and blows every other scanner out of the water. Not only can it scan an entire packet of pictures in less than 30 seconds, it also scans the back, and enhances the photo to correct red eye, brightness, and restore color in faded photos. Any scanner that I’ve ever used has been so gigantic and bulky. They take over most of my work area and, when not in use, have to be stored elsewhere. One of the most wonderful things about the Epson FF-680W is how compact it is and is able to essentially fold up in itself. It only takes up about 1/3 of the space of a traditional scanner and doesn’t have to be tethered to your device. It also doesn’t push the document through the gears of the machine to scan an image; so if a jam does occur, you simply release the tray to gather your document and try again, without having to pull on the jam only making things worse. This is a review for the Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-speed Photo and Document Scanner System that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Great Scanner - Degraded Scanning Software Capabilities

I purchased the FF-680W to expand the capabilities of my forensic investigation and engineering practice, replacing an 8-yr old DS-560 (this was a workhorse). I needed improved photo scanning capabilities and the 680 aptly meets those demands. The file management abilities of "Document Management Pro" that came with the DS-560 spoiled me. I was able to have several custom quick scan tabs that allowed a quick scan with documents scanned with detailed settings and stored at select locations (i.e. documents, checks, photos). I attempted to create customized actions in the Epson ScanSmart that came with the 680 and learned that similar customized actions are no longer available. Hence, additional steps are needed to store documents at your select locations after changing the settings for the nature of instrument saved.

Shockingly Fast!

I bought this scanner recently so I could start preserving my old photographs. I cannot believe how quickly the scanner works! I was able to scan over 100 photos in a very short amount of time. It would have taken me days with old old printer/scanner. I would recommend this photo scanner to anyone who has a large number of print photos that they are looking to scan.

Driver support is lagging behind

Did my analysis, read the reviews and then ordered this scanner so I could get started scanning all our old photos. Followed the instructions and when I selected my Mac OSX 15.x from the driver download page I was informed that Epson hasn’t finished the driver software that is compatible with the latest OSX. Now the scanner is sitting on my desk and I’m now checking their website every few days to see if it’s available. I’m considering sending it back and looking for a scanner that works with the latest operating system.

This is the One!

I have been scanning many old family pictures for a few years now. Started with a Canon LiDE 220 flatbed and that worked well until I was faced with a mountain of pictures still to do. Scanning on a flatbed can be quite tedious and I tired of the labour. I did some research and decided on the Epson FF-680W, mostly because of all the promises and that it is wireless. Ordered it through Amazon and it was here in days. Because I wanted to preserve all these old family pictures, many precious, dating back to the early 1900's, I was prepared to pay for the best scanner the market had. This is the One folks. It has only been 6 weeks and I have knocked off scanning as many pictures in that time as I did with the flatbed in a couple of years. Mostly because of the long, tedious time with the flatbed when you lose interest and months go by. Now, this is not to say the FF-680W is perfect. I still use the flatbed for scanning some hard card photos, newspaper clippings and some quirky items that the roll through Epson cannot handle. But, the Epson has never damaged anything to date. In fact, it seems it can't, no matter how delicate the original is. All in all I have come away from this with a great appreciation for the Epson FF-680W scanner. I just received in the mail today a custom made dustcover my Mum made at my request. Thanks Mum and thanks Epson. Keep up the good work.

Scan is good but speed of upload restricts batching

Getting scanning done but having to work around uploading... it freezes scanning until upload is complete.... slows whole process up ..so I am loading directly to photos on my May and will have to recategorize.. its a shame...as your function if carried over to photos would make it one step..then Google Drive can upload at line speed without interrupting scan process

Amazingly FAST - both side copied at the same time

Bought this a few months ago and thought I would need years to scan all our family photos from the 1950s. Thousands of photos, with small writing on the backsides. TWO DAYS COMPLETED! The auto correction to make old faded photos look good again works perfectly. We are 10000000000% happy with this purchase. Epson did an awesome job with this device.

Won't permit photo editing

The actual scanning is easy, efficient and very satisfactory. However after 6 months of no problems the scanner has taken control of photo editing permissions. Permissions can be changed one picture at a time in Windows Properties, but this defeats the benefit of being able to scan many pictures if you then have to go in and reset the properties of each one.

A SUPER GREAT PHOTO SCANNER

This thing really works well. I am in the process of converting thousands of old photos to digital. It is much faster than a traditional scanner & gives me a highborns quality 1200 dpi file. I'm copying the files onto individual hard drives for several family members.

My Review - Epson FastFoto FF-680W

I bought this scanner becasue I had an enormous number of old photos to scan and individual scans would have been inpossible. It does deliver high quality, but not excellent scans. I have not yet used it for documents. The feeder is excellent. Having said that, it was extemely difficult to set it up for wireless operation. The instructions were dated with older names of the apps that were needed. The instructions were inadequate. Once I used the direct connect to my laptop, the wirelss set-up went flawlessly. Epson should have explained this. The addition of more photo editing options would be a big enhancemnt as well as more choices for the file archetecture. Overall, a very good scanner although a bit on the priey side.
