Outstanding Scanner! (FF-680W)

Purchased to archive family photos going back 100 years, worked perfectly. Excellent quality machine, scans, and is very easy to use. A flatbed scanner would not have been an option for all the photos I had to process. Nice design with a small footprint. I researched several machines, but this became the easy choice. Highly recommended.

Great features

I bought this about a year ago. I am pleased with it. I scan both documents and photos. Two things that it cannot do: 1) Scan glossy photos that were made from a polaroid instant camera. 2) Will not scan a document that has another piece of paper taped onto it.

Setup Instructions Horrible

I have not yet used the Scanner. I have been trying to set it up for 2 days. The website identified for getting started did not work. I had to search the internet and youtube to figure out how to set it up. I sure hope the instructions for using the scanner are better.

One of the best things I have ever bought

I ended up being forced to buy this scanner to put together a photo montage for my mother’s memorial. The last thing I wanted to spend money on was this scanner. BUT, it is one of the best things I have ever bought!!! It scans lots of photos very quickly and does a beautiful job of capturing the images. I ended up taking all the photos out of my mom’s albums, scanned them all and took ten albums home on a little flash drive. And, the beauty is that I can now share all of these photos with my other family members. I have already created several printed albums already. There is nothing more valueable to us (besides our loved ones) than our photos! This is the perfect way to preserve and share them. If there’s ever a fire, all I have to grab is my trusty flash drive!

Easy to setup and use

My son bought this to digitize my plethora of photos, over 40 years of photos. In a month we have finished and organized a life time of photos. It's quick and easy to use and now my memories are (hopefully) safe. The hardest part was taking the photos out of the photo albums and putting them back.

Great scanner

I just finished installing the scanner. Although I believe this to be a great photo scanner I haven't tried it yet. I had some trouble completing the installation. The installation instructions were not completely succinct. I finally figured out that I needed to use the USB cable to get the computer to recognize the scanner with a router without a WBS button. That was not clear in the installation instructions. Would suggest a modification of the installation instructions to include more details.

Weeks worth of scans in less than one evening

So my new Epson FastFoto FF-680W arrived today. Eventually I opened the box, took it in my home computer room, and set it up via wireless. No effort needed. Next I grabbed a stack of about 20 old photos. Less than one minute later they were scanned. So I did another batch, then another. In a very short time I had scanned over 300 old photos. Using my flatbed scanner, that would have taken days. If it continues to perform like it did on this first go, I am going to love this thing! I still have boxes filled with photos from my parents and grandparents (1920' - 1950's), not to mention of my kids and grandkids (1970's to present), to scan...

Amazing

I thought the photos would never be saved and decided to try it anyway, all I have to say is “ Amazing “ they probably haven’t looked that good since they were first developed. All different sizes from 3x3-5x4 with no problem and with out using the sheet insert that came with it . I can’t wait to really start using it for the good photos.

Challenging setup

On the first run, the scanner works well. However, setup was a challenge. All the avaiable documentation and everything I could find on the web said that the scanned could only be connective via WPS. This is a problem as most modern WiFi routers don’t support his insecure protol. It took a contact with support to find the procedure in the installation application.

Horrible Connection Experience

Connecting this scanner for use over Wi-Fi was a pain, took over an hour, after numerous failed connection attempts, we were finally able to get it connected. A similar Brother scanner purchased for use in another office connected over Wi-Fi seamlessly without issue the first time in minutes. Now lets see if the scanner will stay online.
