Great sound, lacks control

First off let me say I love my Sony WH-1000XM4! I love the sound, the Noise Cancelling they provide and how loud they get but smooth the sound is without hurting my ears. But their biggest downfall is the control function on their earmuffs. The touch/tapping functions are just not accurate or great. I tend to listen when I'm in bed and about to fall asleep but then they annoyingly skip or do something I didn't want them to do. Honestly, this is my biggest gripe and annoyance with these headphones, I still recommend them cause their sound is amazing but they REALLY need to develop a better way to handle the controls. I suggest actual buttons. I have a pair of Jabra Elite Active 75t & I LOVE their controls. Their sound doesn't co.e close to these Sony headphones but they've mastered the controls.

When you listen to music while wearing the headset on your ears, the headset will pause music playback automatically if the headset is removed. When the headset is worn again, the headset resumes music playback. It's totally possible to enjoy these headphones while lying down especially when wearing detection is off. By using the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app, you can change the settings of the wearing detection automatic music playback pause and resume function and the wearing detection automatic power off function (the battery saving function). Great while they safe and work!

I bought these a year and a half ago. I loved how they were comfortable and sounded until recently when they randomly started screeching this loud high pitch noise into my right ear! Honestly, I am very disappointed with this product quality given the high price tag. One thing is for them to break down, and another is to potentially damage someone's hearing. I will never recommend these to anyone and discourage anyone from buying them. You can find similar experiences on Reddit which means that this isn't an isolated event.

WH-1000XM4 The Good, The Bad and Ugly.

Good: Headphones are great with great sound compared to all headphones in the same category. Noise cancelling is one of the greatest. I have tested the noise cancelling in most crowded areas and it is one of the best. Battery life is one of the greatest I have seen so far. It is also very light weight so that you can wear it for a long time without any issues. Setting this is very easy with the sony app. The sony support is very attentive and very supportive. The Bad: If you are setting this up with multiple devices for example phone and laptop so that it can connect as soon as you switch the device it is very easy to do that but all the issues started happening after that. While connecting to the single device lets say phone if you start your laptop you will hear the message that "Second device connected" but after every 10-15 second it play the same message while you are listening the music on first device. It is so irritating and I found no solution, how to fix that. The Ugly: These headphones are not meant to be for Zoom conferencing, I had to exchange my first pair of headphones as I people were not able to hear me on the zoom calls. Also there was issues while calling to people over phone, Whenever I use to call people over phone the other party tells me that I am sounding like I am sitting very far from my phone.

Junk maybe mine was defect but $300 mistake

After telling myself buying a quality pair of headphones was worth $300 plus i did the research an for the price point an value (so i thought) i landed here sony xm4. First off it never speed charged at all. Which was 80-90° the reason i went there. Thought i was doing something wrong until about a month in it started to charge when an how long it felt like meaning i could plug it in for hours only to pick it up an have 10° batterie. Than i started to notice an electrical burning scent coming from somewhere in my office i could’t locate but weirdly i only noticed while wearing headphones huh. Well 3rd month in an i now see the plastic around the port had melted, you know they did run noticeably hot since day one i just thought that was the large mega $300 components at work idk. Needless to say i would have been much happier sticking with $20-$40 headphones that sound same to me may not have noise cancellation but generally last about a year an don’t mind when they break. Also the text talk feature is a major pain. The music constantly would stop at any noise i turn off feature an if the headset rubbed against my hood or jacket it would turn back on. Answering calls sucked too since it would ring i could answer or accept call with headset but to engage i would have to fumble to locate my phone to switch from iphone call to headset every time an at-least 50° of calls hung up before i got there. It was a constant annoying race each call an if i missed someone important i would be upset an to some it all up. Thats what this purchased left me $300 broker an upset. Im contacting sony “support” maybe i will update if possable

Noise Cancellation Has a Long Way to Go

These headphones are comfortable to wear. The audio quality is great. Great battery life and they charge very quickly. However, as the title says, I really had higher expectations for the noise cancellation. It was my main reason to buy these headphones.

I bought this WH1000XM4 just for the work-from-home purpose. I hear a disturbing metallic, rattling, or crackling noise sound during Skype (audio) and Zoom (video) calls. Whenever someone is talking loud, it just irritates. I am not a music lover so I don't know about while playing music.

Horrible Feedback After 1.5 Years of Use

They were great headphones while they lasted. Now they regularly have unbearably loud feedback noise in both ears. These have stat indoors at my work computer since I got them; they have been very well taken care of. I called support, and they would not replace them because the failure happened after one year. Do not expect these headphones to last!

These are hands down the best sounding and most comfortable headphones I have ever owned. The features they have are so nice. They truly are noise canceling. If you want to turn the noise canceling off, you can do that easily. Since I got mine, my son and husband loved them so much that they both went out and bought a set each. You can feel the quality build of these as soon as you hold them. I love them and highly recommend them.
