- 5 out of 5 stars review3/25/2024Just used this generator over the weekend for about 28 hours straight during our power outage. Let me first say that this generator did not disappoint. Easy prep work for installation of wheels and adding oil. Filling gas to about 5 gallons simple too. Plugged the wire connectors for battery starter w ease. Put choke on and immediately it fired right up! About 2-3 minutes put choke on middle idle for another 2-3 minutes. It was then ready for full throttle run and hook up to house. Got a 30amp outside outlet wired to my panel box so had the plug in cord bought separately. Once house main breaker off I switched panel over to the 30amp power coming from generator. Flipped house breakers for furnace, refrigerator, microwave, room out...

This generator doesn't need a full pull and it starts right away! The instructions are very easy to follow and it looks like it's a well-made product. We purchased this generator to run a backup sump pump and refrigerator in case of a power outage. We haven't had to use it in that capacity yet, but it held a load well during the initial tests and we feel confident it will perform well in an emergency.
You don't need a full Pull to Start!

I ran it for the prescribed break-in period, then again 3-4 weeks later. We had not had a power outage in that time. That will be the true test. I'm glad I spent the extra money getting a electric start model, as I was not successful in starting it with the pull rope. (I imagine a younger person could pull that rope faster, and therefore get it going that way.) I am quite happy with my investment in keeping the basement dry!

(One minor problem as the support bolt holes were not lined up exactly, so they took longer than needed to assemble, but it eventually went together ok. ) They give you the oil (in the correct size bottle with a handy pouring hose), tools and good directions. Started and ran great, and tested it with multiple electrical devices at once. Plenty of voltage for the money! Good deal!

I chose my WGen5300V for its Wattage, and Warranty. The price was sweet, and I love the color also lol. Set up was no problem. Putting on the wheels and rubber feet was simple. I LOVE the threaded oil funnel! The supplied spark plug tool and wrench in a pouch are a nice touch. It has the look and feel of a sturdy, quality piece of equipment. It started right up, and ran flawlessly on it's unloaded first break-in hour. It is not whisper quiet, but is not any louder than any other small generator. It sounds nice too me. Used extra cardboard in box so I wouldnt scratch frame tipping up on it's side. (I did this before adding any fluids. Only took a couple of pulls to start. Only ran for a few minutes and checked the 120 outlets as I don't have 4 prong cord yet. Seems like a decent quality unit.

I suspended it from my tractor's forks, did the assembly, added oil, and transported to work site. Assembling the wheels and feet was a breeze, and the needed 0.7 q of oil was supplied along with a filling spout. I'm saving that bottle to measure out the 0.7 a in the future. I've only run the generator twice, and the first was just a brief test to confirm that Volts, Hz, and use duration display was working. Tried electric start and got nothing but clicking noise. Tried pull start and it was totally froze-could not pull the engine over. Took it back and ordered another. Second one got here, went through the set up process, FOB start worked, push button start worked. Tried the pull start and the rewind did not work. One pull and I had to take cover off to rewind by hand. Tried it a few times. Doesn't rewind. Have to keep it because we need it for the week. Will be contacting customer service. Hope they can just send a new rewind. Runs great after started. Will have a better idea of how it does after powering the homestead...

Put some gas in the tank, checked that the circuit breakers were closed, switched the fuel valve to on, set the choke to on and pushed the start button. INSTANT START. Ran it for an hour for the required breakin period, pushed the off button and shut off the fuel valve. What could be simpler? But simplicity aside, I have to tell you—I have owned six different generators. The Westinghouse 5300s is (hands down) the best I have ever seen.
