Greatest thing since sliced bread
There's nothing I can say that would even come close to doing this machine justice , bought another generator from a competitor , biggest mistake I could have made. The features, durability and quality is second to none , highly recommended this to anyone over any other brand .
Great product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m not sure why but our area is known for frequent power outages. This generator has helped during those times. It was easy to set up and use. Started within the first few pulls. Would definitely purchase again.
Great value
Bought this generator for home backup in preparation of hurricane season. Compared to other generators at the store it offered the most features for the price. Put the oil and fuel, hit the electric start button and it started right up. Ran it for about 15-20 minutes and found no issues. Looking forward to having electricity next time a hurricane comes though.
great generator
Great generator for the price! easy set up. It also will be easy to maintain.Easy to start. just to see what i could run with it i put it through its paces. I ran 5 lights, 2 fans, 3 electric heaters, well pump, refrigerator, freezer, heat lamp, garage door opener. it ran all of it without any problem. I was bold enough to run all the above and turn on the hot water tank. now thats when the generator knew it had a load on it for sure. overall great product! its all i need if the power goes out. its even wife friendly.
Easy to use / Easy to set up
I had been looking at a generator for awhile and contemplated many different brands. For the price, wattage and most importantly, name brand quality, I found that Generac was the way to go. Spend the money and get the electric start. Save yourself the aggravation at using a pull start. Just push a button and rock n' roll. Upon first unboxing it, everything was zip tied together very neatly and it was well packaged. It wasn't so overdone that you spend hours cutting away zip ties like you do with your kids toys on Christmas morning. Cut a few of the zip ties and you are ready to connect the batter cables. The generator was SUPER easy to get set up. If you can use a wrench or socket set, then you are good to go. You don't have to be super handy at all to do it. The directions were very simple and easy to follow. A matter of securing the wheels to the frame with the axle and washers (Provided) and also securing the pulling handle to the frame. Other than connecting these bolts and two very small bolts for the batter connection, it was a snap and took only minutes to unbox and be fully ready to use. The generator comes with an initial package of oil and it's a matter of opening up the oil valve and pouring it in. Heck, I can do that. This unit is very heavy. So if you plan on wheeling it around your house, or you have an outlet on a further away side of your house, just remember that you may be trudging it through feet of snow, like I do in Maine. So just have a plan in place to have it put somewhere for awhile or the ability to wheel it around with ease. Overall, the generator just looks cool. The black and orange color is cool looking. Obviously not a requirement and individual tastes vary, but it looks like a well built machine and the colors pop. The Generac name is why I went with this one. From past experience of buying cheaper name "knockoffs" to save a few bucks, I have always had it come back to bite me. It's true that you get what you pay for. This unit was priced the same as the knockoffs, too... so why not go for quality, even if you pay just a tad more. But I was very pleased with the price point. LAST, and my ONLY complaint was that I thought the unit came with the L14-30R cord. It DOES NOT. So, if you plan on hooking it up to a 30amp power source, with the 4-prong outlet you will have to purchase the cord separate. Other than that, I am 100% please with the purchase and think you will be too. It powers everything in my house that I need.
Just what i expected!
I always do a major investigation before i purchase anything expensive.Sometimes it takes me weeks.I read everything including reviews. Finally after days of asking questions and reading many reviews i felt the Genarac GP6500 was right for me.I was right.Assembly was easy and took about 15 mins.Filled it with the oil that was provided and it started in two pulls. The unit was powerful enough to power up my whole house except the clothes dryer and electric oven.No more freezing in the winter or sitting in the dark.It is relativley quit and ran about 10 hrs on a tank of gas.I am very satisfied with my purchase and you can't beat the quality of Genarac.
Great generator
Got this as 'insurance' against the increasing number of power outages. My electrician set up wiring for easy connection to my breaker box. It's really easy to roll around and use. It runs all the essential things (sump pump, furnace, refrigerator/freezer some lights, one burner on fridge, computer) - about 1/2 the house - plenty for an extended outage. I am almost looking forward to putting it through its paces during the next outage. Almost.
Great power for the money!
I got this generator after Irma hit and I was with out power for 6 days. I got it set up and had a manual transfer switch put it so I can power my entire house. I tested it today and it will run my central AC with out even breathing hard. I have 1600 square feet under air. I have not tested it yet but am figuring it will run out central AC, fridge and freezer with out much of an issue (as long as they don’t kick on at the same time). As for the noise level, it’s not quite by any means but I have used much loader generators that were much loader. It has a very low tone that is tolerable. Over all, I am currently very pleased.
Advice about generator safety that everyone really needs to be aware with.
I have something to explain to everyone about how people use their portable generators during a power outage. A good decision is to have every house have a backup generator installed already which is a home standby generator or a solar panel. Home standby generators are safer because they use natural gas while most portable generators use gasoline which gives off carbon monoxide and not only that. They also injure people if used incorrectly. Many people have died each year when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Remember not to run your generator indoors. Running your generator indoors is never safe. That will increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which causes death. Always use your generator outdoors please. Make sure that your generator is 15-20 feet away from house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Some people also run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Here’s an advice about generator safety: please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide-and-seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety and for everyone to know about. Thank you hope you stay safe as well.
Great value
I did a lot of on line research before my purchase. I found this unit on sale for an incredibly low price that pretty much made the purchase a no brainier compared to the other Generators on the market. I haven't had the need to use it yet but do start it up once a month as per instructions. It's very easy to start. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a little noisy.
