Saved us after Irma

Living in the outskirts of Gainesville, FL. we lose power on a constant basis, and becomes a constant nuisance to my family and myself. So the following year I determined to take my tax return and buy a new generator. I researched multiple generators in finally set my mind on the Generac 17500. Since receiving my generator in February I've used it seven times running it 4 to 5 hours with no problems, then Irma hit. I ran this generator for over seven days nonstop and it was a lifesaver. I cannot thank Generac and the people who built this generator for the power, comfort and support it has given my family. This is a well-built generator and I highly recommend it to anyone. bring on the hurricanes!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Last year we ended up without power for well over a week due to Irma. This hurricane season I am so very thankful out family is covered with for power failure! This is a large generator but very portable and powerful! It's very easy to use and well built! I also can't wait to put it to use on an upcoming camping trip we have planned in the mountains!

I'm pleased overall with the features and output.

I was surprised that the THD was high enough that my digital frequency meter would not read 60 Hertz either at no load or full load. I had to read the frequency with my ocilloscope. However the THD must be low enough so that it doesn't seem to bother my electronics. It starts easy with the pull starter. I'll probably use a bigger starting battery when the little one that came with the unit dies. The voltage is pretty stable during motor starts. Since the genset is heavy I would like to see a lifting eye to set it in a pickup bed. All things considered, it seems worth the affordable price for an 8 KW non commercial machine.

GREAT GENERATOR--EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS!

Assembly took less than 30-minutes and it started effortlessly right out of the box. A “field test” of the new generator was conducted two days later. After a two hour test run, with all the transfer panel breakers turned on, and nearly every component of a “normal load” placed on the generator--from the well pump to the dishwasher, and from the furnace to the refrigerator & water heater--the GP7500E generator handled the load effortlessly. However, I've recently discovered one issue that remains distressing. In the owner's manual, Generac DOES NOT recommend running the generator in rain or snow. This is equivalent to a "Catch 22" in back-up, emergency power! After all, inclement weather--blizzards, hurricanes, tornados, ice storms, etc--are the causes of power outages in the first place creating the need for back-up generators! So the food in your refrigerator must spoil because it's raining outside? Really?

Good product, easy to set up and use but heavy and hard to move on any incline.

My generator arrived quickly as was easy to put together. It has worked well and more than met our needs. However, it is very heavy and hard to move. Our driveway has a slight incline to it. The weight plus the small tires, which are tubeless and hard to keep inflated or replace, makes it almost impossible for my wife to move out of the garage to use. Also, be sure you keep your battery charged. That said, I'd buy another one.

It would have been nice if it worked when I needed it most

I purchased the Generac 7500E model generator approx 18 months ago from Costco. The deal that I got on it made it a no-brainer to buy there. After getting it home and out of the box, set up was a breeze. I simply put in the oil that came with it (we'll get back to this) and fueled it up, it ran like a champ. Every 4-6 weeks I start it up and let it run. I don't keep much if any gas in it while it is stored as I make it a habit to run it out of gas. This past week Mid-Michigan got pummeled by an ice storm that left us without power from Sunday 12/22/2013 at 3:03 AM until Wednesday 12/25/2013 at approx 3:30 PM. No problem right, I have a generator. I got up threw the breaker box to off, went through my start up procedure in the freezing cold of the night and had my house running with power again in approx 20 minutes time. After everything was back in order, I went back to bed and laid there listening to the generator. After it had been running for about an hour I heard it turn off. I went to check on it only to find that it would not start. I was full of gas and had been running just fine. The electric start had the engine wanting to fire, but it would not turn over. I got it into an authorized dealer the next day, Monday. It was not ready for pick up until Friday 12/27/2013. The diagnosis, it was overfilled with oil. Now, as I said, I set this up with the oil that was provided by Generac. As I remember it, a premeasured amount. I have never added to the oil. My only guess is that when my unit was tested at the factory, the oil was never completely drained. The time I needed it most and it had run the longest, less than one hour, IT FAILED.

Satisfied so far

We have all our permanent electrical work complete (wiring, lockout, receptacle, etc.) and are ready for an extended outage. Recent -30F temps and some local power outages got me concerned since all my heat sources need some electrical energy. Of course I hope to never have to use the generator. The unit looks good to me and the setup was simple. I'm debating whether to fuel and start the unit knowing I then should run it once a month to avoid fuel problems.

Quality Generator!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a good powerful Generator. It will keep my furnace, refrigerator, and freezer working during a power outage. The instructions to assemble the Generator could have been better. It took a little time to assemble it. Overall a really quality Generator.

i love my 17500

in the north east in new hampshire we lose power a lot.i bought the generac 17500 and have used it about 7 times in the past 10 years. it ran flawlessly and the girls were very happy at home which made my life very peaceful for the week to 10 days we had it running.the only time it never started is when i neglected to keep on eye on it's battery,if it just sits around for a year or two the battery will lose it's starting power when you need it.ever so often put a charger on it so it's alive when you need it.

Features and price

So far I am very satisfied but did not get a chance to put it to an actual test. The predicted storm did not materialize and we never lost our power but I was confident that I was ready for anything with my new Generac 7500E. It was filled with oil, the battery charged and gas. Test started and it fired right up.
