I purchased 2 of these for my small business hoping to cut down the cost of toner for my existing all-in-one units. What a mistake. Pros: 1. Ink lasts a long time and it is easy to fill 2. Nice interface on the touchscreen 3. Scanning via the computer interface is smooth and simple 4. Connection to my LAN was great and able to set a static IP address 5. Two paper trays 6. Print quality is pretty decent but doesn't match laser Cons: 1. Paper handling is TERRIBLE. If printing more than a 1 page document it will more often than not (greater than 90% of the time) grab multiple sheets of paper and either print a blank sheet or have print on about an inch of text on one page and then continue on the next. This is a deal breaker for printing multiple page documents and wastes a significant amount of paper and time. 2. Duplex printing is extremely slow and not reliable because of paper handling. See Cons #1 3. Duplex scanning is tedious I do a lot of research on products before purchasing and I typically take negative reviews with a grain of salt because often time it is buyers remorse or user error. However, I wish I would have taken the bad reviews to heart because I'm stuck with 2 VERY expensive paperweights that I can pretty much only print single page documents with. If Epson could get the paper handling issues resolved this would be a pretty fantastic machine!!

UNBOXING: The EcoTank Pro ET-5850 unboxing experience was super easy – a couple of blue tape tabs to remove from the printer (nothing unusual), plug it in, and hit the power button. The touchscreen on the front makes it easy to walk through the digital setup steps, including setting up the network connection, which I almost always have problems with – but not here! PRINTER: I’m impressed with the screen on this thing, it’s like using my iPhone, high quality, large, and touches register easily. Filling the printer up with ink is easy – the bottles are keyed for each color type, and have a safeguard to prevent overfilling. It’d be difficult to mess this up too badly. The no-drip technology is truly no-drip, and I’ve had no problems with messiness or anything like that with this printer. The printer definitely needs a dedicated home for being setup on – it won’t live on a shelf fir periodic usage. PRINTING: This printer is definitely meant for heavy users – it’s a big device, and can print many pages before needing a refill on the ink. The printer does a stellar job with printing photos on photopaper, but is more than capable of easy black and white printing. SCANNING / COPYING This thing has a great auto document feeder. It was easily able to scan large stacks of documents and then share it to my computer. Combined with the printing ability, this printer is a beast for copying too. I'm really impressed with Epson-EcoTank Printer! It's the best printer that I have ever used. I love the speed, print quality and ease of use. The set-up was very simple and fast. The included instructions walked me through each step perfectly. I have never used a refillable ink printer and really like how simple the compartments were to fill. There was no mess and the bottles stop filling when the tank has reached the max amount. I think the longest part of the whole process of setting the printer was waiting for the ink to charge. It was great. They also give you two bottles of each color ink to fully fill up each reservoir with some spare ink left over for future use. I like how you can see the amount of ink that is left from the outside of the printer and how the number used for ordering is located right by where you fill the ink for easy reordering. Printing is fast and easy. I downloaded the Epson iPrint on my phone and have printed out several items and I have had no issues. I appreciate the simplicity of being able to print directly from my phone. My previous wireless printer would sometimes give me problems. I would have to take the extra time to print from my desktop. My children have also printed several items from their Chromebook for school and they love how easy it is. They also love how the tray slides out automatically when the printer starts printing. I like the two-sided printing. It creates less waste and is more efficient. I'm happy how quickly items print. It's very fast even on color detailed pictures. The print quality is amazing. I am definitely going to be printing out my pictures from home from now on. I really like the 4.3" touchscreen. It's very responsive to touch and there several settings and maintenance option that can be accessed from the screen.You can also see the Job status including completed tasks with time and dates. There are a ton of options and things that can be done just from the printer touchscreen. I think what I'm most excited about is the refillable ink! It's so annoying when one color from a cartridge is out and the whole set needs to be replaced. It gets very expensive over time and it seems very wasteful. To start off the EcoTank Pro ET-5850 unboxing experience was very easy, just some blue tape holding things in place that needed to be taken off. The setup was quite easy as well, when setting it up it walks you through everything on the touch screen. Connecting it to my wireless router was very easy and very straight forward, as opposed to some other printers that I have had. The touch screen on this printer is very good, super responsive, the image quality is crisp and clear, it is honestly like using a modern-day smartphone. Now when it comes to actually using the thing on a day to day basis…filling it up with ink is very easy and you can’t mess it up. Each bottle has a special fitting on it, so it only works for the right colors. It automatically stops filling the ink cartridge when it is full so there is no need to worry about over filling them. I was skeptical about there being a mess since “no drip” technology has failed me before, but with this there is actually no drip and was very clean. I love this EcoTank because it lasts SOOO much longer than the conventional way. The only problem I had with the printing is on the very first page I printed there was a black ink blotch on it, but after printing about 500 more pages that never happened again. The print quality is very good on photopaper, I was impressed. Now this printer is not for someone who prints a couple pages here and there, it is definitely for someone who is constantly printing documents, scanning documents, or for a small business. This thing is big and heavy so you will need to have a dedicated spot for it. One last note. After you download the software on your computer, scanning documents becomes so easy. I scanned a 45-page document in no time and saved it straight to a pdf on my computer, this was all wirelessly. Now I have to say that this is an unbiased review, even though I received this as a beta unit. Everything I said in the review is true and I personally truly believe it. I bought this for my classroom (with personal money) and have been extremely happy with it. It prints quickly. It seems our copiers are always on the fritz, so I am thankful I have a reliable printer!

We have about fifty printers at our office and all are toner type printers. This is our first ink jet and we love the savings, quality of the prints and the ease of refilling the ink. We are starting to order more of these for our staff.

This printer has been nothing short of exceptional. Replaced previous HP printer for the cost of the cartridges and I've been saving ever since. Quality prints. Fast production. Would highly recommend.
