I purchased 2 of these for my small business hoping to cut down the cost of toner for my existing all-in-one units. What a mistake. Pros: 1. Ink lasts a long time and it is easy to fill 2. Nice interface on the touchscreen 3. Scanning via the computer interface is smooth and simple 4. Connection to my LAN was great and able to set a static IP address 5. Two paper trays 6. Print quality is pretty decent but doesn't match laser Cons: 1. Paper handling is TERRIBLE. If printing more than a 1 page document it will more often than not (greater than 90% of the time) grab multiple sheets of paper and either print a blank sheet or have print on about an inch of text on one page and then continue on the next. This is a deal breaker for printing multiple page documents and wastes a significant amount of paper and time. 2. Duplex printing is extremely slow and not reliable because of paper handling. See Cons #1 3. Duplex scanning is tedious I do a lot of research on products before purchasing and I typically take negative reviews with a grain of salt because often time it is buyers remorse or user error. However, I wish I would have taken the bad reviews to heart because I'm stuck with 2 VERY expensive paperweights that I can pretty much only print single page documents with. If Epson could get the paper handling issues resolved this would be a pretty fantastic machine!!

Gone are the days when setting up a printer was a chore…unbox this printer follow the 1 sheet setup guide and go. I think it took between 5-10 minutes to be up and printing. It found my network and all of my devices were able to find the printer and start using it. A nice change over older eco-tank printers are these refill bottles are designed to only fit in the correct color, eliminating mistakes and any spillage. The display touch screen is large, bright and responsive. It comes with 2 complete sets of ink…which says it is enough for 7500 B&W prints! The printer itself holds over 500 sheets of paper as well as having a rear feed and scanner feed. The tray where final prints comes out is also mechanical…It comes out automatically with a print job….while not necessary is a nice feature. Also this printer is fast! No warm up time and finished prints are out and dry very quickly. You should know this is a BIG printer! Make sure you have a place in your home or office for it. As a small business owner, I’m a bit of a “Jill of all trades.” The main part of my small business is design, but I also do a lot of brochures, flyers, and curriculum planning as a leader of a local non-profit group. Being a “Jill of all trades,” I needed a printer that could keep up with my demands. The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 is the work-horse that I need! Set-up was very easy. There are easy to follow instructions that tell you every step to take in order to get your printer up and running. This was my first experience filling ink reservoirs with containers of ink, and I must say I am very impressed. The biggest advantage to me is the sustainability...no more shipping my old toner cartridges to be recycled. Filling the tanks with the ink as I need them eliminates cartridge waste. The other advantage of filling my ink reservoirs as I need them is the cost savings. I go through a lot of ink and paper, and I need something that can keep up with me! Being able to see exactly how much ink I have in the reservoirs is great; no more “oops I’m out of ink” surprises! The touch-screen is very easy to navigate. I can easily troubleshoot and get to where I need in the menu. I needed to do a cleaning on the printer heads (there was a bit of bleeding of the ink), and I was able to easily navigate my way to that part of the menu (and easily resolve the bleeding ink problem). The detail in the print-outs are great. I did a few test prints of some brochures and old vintage graphic art, and I was very impressed. I plan to do some more prints of the vintage art on higher quality paper, and frame them. They will look great in my home office! The two-sided copying is impressive and time-saving. I do a lot of copying when setting up curriculum for my non-profit, and being able to set the papers in and walk away after starting the copying process is great. It saves a lot of time and paper. The print speed is lightning fast. My papers are printed before I stand up from the computer to grab them off the printer, and I’m only two steps away! This printer is very user-friendly, and an excellent time saver. The cost savings and sustainability are big bonuses to me as well. I highly recommend the EcoTank Pro ET-5850 to anyone in need of an all-in-one printer. Setting up this printer was fairly easy and did not take very much time. The install process for the software on my computer took a little while, but it wasn't confusing. The only problem I ran into was connecting it to my internet network. I connected it directly on the printer, and although it connected, it said the signal was weak. When I tried to search for the printer through my computer, it said it couldn't be found. I had to bring my laptop downstairs and connect my computer with a USB cord and setup the network that way, and then the signal was strong and my computer identified it just fine. Not really sure why that happened, but glad it worked out in the end. Secondly, I'm so glad I can finally print something without having to bring my laptop downstairs each time. The printer is super quick, and I have not received any errors when trying to print anything. It properly shows up as the first option in my printing options. This is an excellent all in one. The print speeds are amazingly fast and high quality. There are two different paper trays for simplifying printing to two different sizes of types of paper. An added feature which I was not expecting is that the tray the prints collect on, automatically pops out when you print. This is a great little bonus since I like to keep it closed and often forget to open it before printing. Since this is an EcoTank, it comes with enough ink for over two years of printing. No more messing with cartridges. The sheet feeder on top makes it very easy to copy, scan or fax multi-page documents and the internal address book makes it easy to save your most frequent addresses and phone numbers. I recently (actually 2x) purchased the EcoTank Pro ET-5850 with high hopes, given its promise of a cartridge-free system. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory. The printer failed twice, necessitating replacements each time. I also encountered significant difficulties connecting the printer to my computer, which cost me several hours of troubleshooting. Ultimately, I switched to an HP model, which has been working without issue. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850. For those considering a reliable office printer, I suggest exploring alternatives, particularly from HP. This experience has led me to advise against purchasing this specific Epson model.

The Epson ET-5850 is a great All-in-one printer. It is on the big side and is pretty heavy so I would have someone who can lift and help take it out of the box put it where you would like it to go. After you take it out of the box you can start setting it up by taking off the blue tape that comes on it. The blue tape has little tabs on the ends for easy pull-off. After that you put the ink in. I found this to be very fun and relaxing. This is the first printer that I ever got that has a different type of ink. They come in bottles instead of those ink cartridges that to me are pretty hard to use but these make it very easy. The printer came with the two sets of ink. You will use the first ones when you prime it up. You will also partly use the second ones to refill and top it off. The ink should last a year and a half or so but that would all depend on how much you use it. They each have individual numbers and keys on the top of the bottles, so you know where to put each color. To me it also saves from a lot of unnecessary cartridge fills. It comes with a driver’s DVD but you can also just download them from your computer. It comes with easy and clear instructions on how to set it up. It has a good size touchscreen in the front that is easy to navigate through all the different settings. It does however take a while to get it all set-up due to having to pour in the ink and set the paper. There are numerous options to look at for your needs. This printer has everything a home office and a household would need. It comes with the printer, scanner, fax, and a copier all-in-one. It is meant for big jobs and to print out a lot of paper. I have taken several photos one in full color and one in black and white, I like that the printer has easy access to paper size, it can print envelope size to letter size and has three different areas to print from which in all holds 500 pieces of paper. There is a rear paper cartridge and two front ones that give you a lot of options to choose what you would like to get printed and what size. I printed out several things for my home office including full size book projects, a bunch of photos, and several game and puzzle magazines for my kid and myself. I also copied several important documents and I like the fact that it can also copy both sides which saves me paper because I use it a lot. You can scan from the printer to your cloud, email, and computer. I love that it prints very fast even when it prints double sided. I love everything about this printer. I received this product a few weeks ago and I am so glad I did! This product is so easy to set up! This product works better than any one I have ever seen! To start off the EcoTank Pro ET-5850 unboxing experience was very easy, just some blue tape holding things in place that needed to be taken off. The setup was quite easy as well, when setting it up it walks you through everything on the touch screen. Connecting it to my wireless router was very easy and very straight forward, as opposed to some other printers that I have had. The touch screen on this printer is very good, super responsive, the image quality is crisp and clear, it is honestly like using a modern-day smartphone. Now when it comes to actually using the thing on a day to day basis…filling it up with ink is very easy and you can’t mess it up. Each bottle has a special fitting on it, so it only works for the right colors. It automatically stops filling the ink cartridge when it is full so there is no need to worry about over filling them. I was skeptical about there being a mess since “no drip” technology has failed me before, but with this there is actually no drip and was very clean. I love this EcoTank because it lasts SOOO much longer than the conventional way. The only problem I had with the printing is on the very first page I printed there was a black ink blotch on it, but after printing about 500 more pages that never happened again. The print quality is very good on photopaper, I was impressed. Now this printer is not for someone who prints a couple pages here and there, it is definitely for someone who is constantly printing documents, scanning documents, or for a small business. This thing is big and heavy so you will need to have a dedicated spot for it. One last note. After you download the software on your computer, scanning documents becomes so easy. I scanned a 45-page document in no time and saved it straight to a pdf on my computer, this was all wirelessly. Now I have to say that this is an unbiased review, even though I received this as a beta unit. Everything I said in the review is true and I personally truly believe it.
