We purchased this pergola several months ago and put it up soon after. My husband and I built it and it was not too difficult. The wood and hardware are very sturdy. We did re-stain it before we built it, but we knew we were going to do that when we purchased it. We just wanted a darker color than what it came with. The pergola looks and feels great out by our pool.

Overall the pergola is very nice and instructions were clear. Unfortunately the instructions for how long the base is were wrong. All the concrete was laid out exactly to their plan of 114" on center, but when assembled the posts were just over 115" on center. I recommend building all of the long pieces FIRST, then calculate how far apart the posts will be. I am a woodworker and teach engineering. Normally you would cut everything to size as you are building because there can be some changes in wood or other things. So for a pre-made, pre-drilled pergola it's understandable that some holes don't line up, kind of annoying the post distance wasn't correct as they will not be centered on my columns. One thing to add, all of the pieces are short and use a lap joint and bolts to secure them. Cedar is a soft wood, so I glued all of the lap joints and bolted them. Because all of the pieces are bolted together I would not trust standing or putting anything heavy on top. From a learning experience, I recommend building all of the long parts in sections and then sealing them before assembly. Overall it is a fairly good product. The only reason I did not build this from scratch is because the price of lumber to make something similar would have been as much or more than the kit. Had I known all of the long pieces were bolted lap joints and the 6x6 columns are hollow I may have just held out and designed and built my own.

After reading many reviews, we decided to purchase the 12x20 Beaumont pergola for the far side of our pool area. It is the perfect addition and finishes the space beautifully serving as a separation between the pool area and backyard “fun.” The pergola is real wood and very heavy (when putting together). My husband and I (ages 52 and 46) did it together with help from our 17 year old son when lifting. It took us some time (a full Saturday), but that included organizing the pieces before starting. We also worked slowly as I wanted to be sure we were doing it correctly to eliminate the need to undo and redo something - which would be a lot of work. We chose to paint our pergola (Turkish Coffee by Sherman Williams) to match our Tudor home as the natural stain the wood comes in was too light for our surrounding decor. We also strung lights and added curtains for comfort. This space is a favorite - even amongst the teenagers! We only put our pergola up a few weeks ago, but it’s heavy, solid and obviously high quality. I would highly recommend this particular pergola (12x20 Beaumont). Side note, the delivery was easy and the product arrived sooner than we expected. It comes in 4 large (heavy) boxes.

Skipping ahead (past a flimsy aluminum pergola that failed in the strong winds), I came across a 12X16 cedar pergola kit that seemed too good to be true. It wasn't! So after spreading out all the fragrant cedar pieces under my carport, I set about learning how to pour cement piers so I could transform an unused portion of my backyard into a relaxing home vacation spot. The instruction book was concise and easy to follow. All of the hardware was included, even with a few spares. The wood pieces were all cut perfectly. Only a couple of the top boards were warped, but by carefully tightening their bolts all the warp disappeared. I could have easily called for replacements, but didn't need to. When I first looked at all the parts and my untidy dirt area, I was skeptical. But carefully going through the instructions I was able to build this beautiful wooden pergola for which I constantly get compliments. As you can see, I have not even built a deck or poured a slab yet, but it is already being enjoyed. Oh yes, and those 4 heavy 400 watt solar panels that started it all now rest neatly on top, providing shade and free power. It's the good life!

We had 2 smaller resin pergolas in another part of our yard that provided a climbing structure for grapevines. We wanted to move these and provide a more elegant solution. High quality materials and clear assembly instructions facilitated the construction project. We've received many complements on the end results. We are a couple of miles from the coast and In the short time we've had it it's withstood a few hefty windstorms with no issue. This Backyard Discovery 10x10 pergola more than satisfied our expectations.

All the wood and hardware parts were present. I was able to construct it all in less than 8 hours. I live a an area of high winds and the pergola is very strong and stable. I built the pergola on a Trex deck and we are very pleased with how good it all looks. I would highly recommend this pergola to anyone looking to shade and frame your deck or patio.

Our pergola, which covers a portion of our patio, has added a beautiful look to the backyard space (of 5 acres), and has won oooh's and awww's from friends and neighbors. Each piece is finely crafted, and the installation was so easy to arrange and have done. The pergola provides a bit of cover from the sun, and enchanting ambiance both in the daytime and at night. We are very glad we made the investment to our outdoor space. It's given us another "room" off the dining/kitchen area. And...it's a great backdrop for parties and get-togethers.

Easy to assemble, almost completely by myself. (My wife helped to hold the sub-assemblies while I braced them) but otherwise easily a one-man job. I used 11X12X12 concrete piers for my foundation since my location is just on gravel over dirt. I added some roll-up shades and also added some sun screening material on the top for additional shade. Our Arizona summers are brutal and this definitely extends our outside time by at least a couple of months.

I bought this last June, and it arrived fairly quickly. I paid my landscape architect to assemble it and with a 2.5 person crew, it took about 4 hours. Lots of pieces, but they figured it out. The pergola is solid and the color is beautiful. It has withstood several storms and gusty wind days this past year. To protect , maintain, and preserve the cedar for years to come, I'm planning to put a clear coat of stain on it later this month. I am really satisfied with how it looks. I just wish they made them taller.

We bought this a couple of months ago but had to wait to have slab put in after contractor had a family emergency. Now that slab was put in and waited the 10 days to cure enough my wife and I did the project ourselves which took 2 full days plus stained it. Not bad being in our 70’s. Know that it is done we are loving the time we get to spend using it.
