Don't be fooled by the picture

Over the years I have purchased Sam's stew meat numerous times, but it was nothing like the meat I bought this week. It had always looked as lean as the meat in the picture on the website; however, based on the meat I bought this week, that has clearly changed. Before I cooked the meat I bought this week, I decided to trim the fat because there was nearly as much fat as there was meat on many of the pieces. The fat was so dense on some of the pieces my kitchen shears would not even cut it. Some of the pieces were very thin slices instead of being cut into cubes. Some of those slices were covered by a membrane on one side and had fat dangling from the end. By the time the membrane and fat were removed, there was not enough meat left to keep. There were a few dark pieces mixed in, which were so dark they were almost gray. Even after trimming a lot of the fat, there was still so much left it was visibly floating on top after it was cooked. I purchased this meat an online and picked it up from the store. If you decide to try this meat, I suggest you go inside so you can see what you are buying. I hope this poor quality will be rare and the quality will revert to what it had been before the pandemic. I am glad I have a pressure cooker. I had to pressured cook it for 30 minutes on high to get it tender.

Disguisting

Absolutely disguising. This is so full of gristle and bone fragments that it isn't even edible. What a waste of $25. Feeding it to the neighbors dog. I will NEVER buy this again. So nasty. Tossed the entire pot that I had cooked as stew - veggies and all. Couldn't even fish out the veggies and save them for all of the bone fragments in it.

Heavy on Fat/Gristle

Bought 5 lb package. By the time I trimmed off the fat and gristle I ended up with 3.50 lbs. of meat. Quality of meat at Sam's has hit rock bottom. I will no longer be purchasing meat from Sam's but I will go to a real meat market for my proteins. Countryside right down the road may be more expensive, but you get quality meat that is not alll fat and gristle.

Actual chunks were GIANT and FATTY

If only the stew meat you buy actually looked like the picture here! What we bought was nothing like those small, lean pieces. Ours was full of very large to giant chunks and even strips of meat that it required us to go through all 4 lbs and reprocess almost every chunk into smaller pieces which was very time consuming. The butchers at Sam's were obviously very lazy. In the end, the beef was tender and delicious.

Great Stew Meat!

Here's a shout-out to the meat department at Sam's Plano, TX (Ohio Drive location)! On 12/8/2025, I purchased a package of Angus Beef Stew Meat. I was impressed that there was very little fat or sinew that needed to be cut off. Hands down, this is the best stew meat that I have purchased, especially when compared to grocery stores or Walmart. There were no surprises or junk/fatty meat hidden on the bottom. What I saw through the cellophane was the same throughout the entire package.

Worst stew beef ever!

This was the worst stew beef I have ever purchased! Most of the pieces appeared to be left over cutting table scraps which were long miss-shappened pieces between 1/8 and 1/4" thick. The few chunks that were included had so much gristle, that by the time I trimmed the gristle off, I threw out more that 1/2 lb. of the 3 lb. package that I purchased. Additionally, the meat was so tough that even after marinating it for over 6 hours we could barely chew it.
