A very great budget next-gen console that is good enough to play some next and current-gen on but if you're planning to play a lot of next-gen games, this one should last you to more games are released next year. It might even be good to hold you for a year. I think once more games come out next fall, you'll need to upgrade and maybe keep this one in the living room.

Was it worth the order?

I was skeptical about ordering from this retailer but everything is here and is working great! And it also came early! To anyone else that might find this review in the future, everything is great the process was simple and easy and advertised as truthfully! I recommend personally. But always do your research before you order! Have a great day everyone!

Amazing

Arrived 2 days before before the prior estimated delivery date. Packaging was sufficient enough ,but would’ve liked a little more protection from Walmart’s side. Not only was my experience good ,but the console is great. This console is a great budget option for the next Gen consoles. Since this is the cheapest option out of the 4 next generation consoles available for purchase. This definitely comes as a bang for your buck purchase. If you don’t have a 4K display at home, this is the go to option for prime Xbox user. This is also great for casual gamers. Since the console is all digital it makes for a great Xbox Game Pass Machine. Anyways I’m rambling and getting tired of typing this out. Basically I’m happy with my experience and I will definitely keep Walmart in mind for my next console shipping experience.

Great frames, bad resolutions.

The Xbox Series S is a great budget gaming console that will run plenty of games at 1080p, 120fps and even more at 1080p 60fps. There are a few games that run at 1440p 30 or 60fps as well. The main issue with this console is that when it's running games at high framerates, it suffers from terrible dynamic resolution scaling issues. I have my Series S sitting in a way that maximizes airflow in a nicely air conditioned room (68F at all times) and regardless, any game that is even moderately new (CoD MW, Halo MCC, Halo 5, Battlefield V, Battlefield 1, Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War, etc) will struggle to maintain 1080p. Even when you dial back the refresh rate from 120 to 60, many games will become incredibly pixelated or blurry. The worst offender by far is Modern Warfare/Warzone. Player models, particle effects, and shadows become a pixelated, aliased mess at more than about 30m distance which causes terrible issues with visibility in multiplayer. Considering you'll end up spending around $100 more than MSRP for this thing and still getting what in my opinion is Xbox One S visuals but at 120fps, and only 120fps on games that are specifically supported on the Series S, I would say the smart play is to just wait until the Series X is in stock. RocketDrop did a good job with shipping. The console showed up well ahead of schedule and was not a "refurbished" console. It came in its original packaging and with all the standard peripherals. These include a controller, batteries, console, power cable and an HDMI 2.1 cable. There is no USB-C cable included to charge the controller, and no headset. Keep this in mind when purchasing this generation of console. Microsoft and Sony both would rather you buy one of their "officially licensed" headsets than ship a cheap one with the console. Also, as mentioned above, you will be overcharged for this. The way RocketDrop makes their money is by charging an absolute fortune for shipping so they can turn a profit on sales of these brand new consoles. The age of MSRP vs store price has reached the console world. Don't expect to pay $299 and just be done with it. Shipping and taxes totaled about $100. Buy this console as a gift for someone who is an Xbox fan but doesn't care too much about graphics. It's still better than a One S.

Pleasantly surprised

Pleasantly surprised!!!! I haven’t owned an Xbox since I was a kid since then I’ve moved I want to playing on PlayStation I really wanted to get a PlayStation five but there was none available. I found this in stock and I figured I would settle for it but I actually feel like this was the console for me. With the game pass I honestly could care less about not having a CD drive. Looks amazing on my 4K TV!!!! Really affordable!!!! Next generation console!!!!!

Great System but Low Storage

It's a great system, and I definitely recommend it. I would have preferred to get a Series X, but trying to find one of those in stock without paying $800-$1K right now is incredibly difficult. My only gripe with the Series S is the low storage capacity and the fact that it doesn't come with rechargeable batteries for the controllers (but I suspect the X doesn't come with rechargeable batteries either). If you want to upgrade the storage with the "recommended" expansion card, you're looking to drop another $200 easy. Still a great system to get if you can't get your hands on the X right now though.

Hi Michele--We're glad that you're enjoying your new Xbox Series S. If you're running low on storage, you have a couple of options. The best solution is to invest in the Seagate SSD 1TB Expansion Card for Xbox Series X/S, which will add 1TB of SSD storage to your console. Another solution is to add a standard external hard drive, which can be used to store and play Xbox 360 and Xbox One games that have not been enhanced for Xbox Series X/S. We hope you have a lot of fun with your Xbox. -Chuck, Xbox Customer Care

Console works well, but…

When I purchased my Series S I was originally pretty hyped about getting a new console at retail price. However, I was a bit annoyed when I got home to find that it came with no power supply, controller, or HDMI. Thankfully I have the right type of cord laying around from an old PS2, so I was able to improvise, as well as having a controller from my old Xbox that was usable. Slightly disappointed, but it is what it is. At least it works.

Xbox series s is Fantastic!

Ive been playing on the OG Xbox one since release and after getting the Xbox series S, Ive noticed a huge difference. Graphics are better, performance is way better, and the FPS makes the game look buttery smooth compared to what I was use to playing on. I would highly recommend the series s if youre having trouble finding a series x. Ive decided to get the series s now until the series x becomes readily available in stores.

The smallest, fastest, digital nextgen console.

This is the perfect nextgen digital and compact console. The graphics and speed is 10/10 and it is very kid friendly. Some people may say it has like no storage and I don’t want to spend 200$ on a 1tb expansion card. I got a 40$ 1tb external hart drive and plugged it in and had 1500 gigs of storage. Then people say it only has 3 usb slots so I bought a 12$ usb hub off Amazon and it has 4 usb slots so In Total you will have 6 slots.

Hi Kyler -- Thank you for sharing that you're enjoying the speed and power of your new Xbox Series S. Investing in an external hard drive is an excellent suggestion, especially if you are playing backward compatible Xbox games that are not enhanced for Xbox Series X/S. We hope you have a lot of fun with your new Xbox. -Chuck, Xbox Customer Care
