We love the look and style of this pergola and would definitely recommend this product. Do bear in mind however, that it DOES need two people to set up and if you are not handy with tools, its going to take you 4-6 hours or more to set up. As has been mentioned, the hardware can be a little tough as all the bolts/screws have been painted, but my husband was able to make them all work. Find screws and bolts that work together (some pairs worked together better than others) BEFORE you get on the ladder! We also had a few slightly warped boards which made some of the fitting a little tough but we were able to make it work and it didn't affect the look of the finished product. We thought we were going to have to make some recuts but boards that didn't fit at first fit as it went together. Also someone mentioned its not cedar but pine. My husband said the same thing: smells like pine, light weight wood and we had a little sap on the boards. Overall, we LOVE it and it really is a beautiful addition to our yard.

Very happy with finished product, wood was not warped or bowed, straight forward assembly. Was able to assemble with one person, but two recommended when two sides are brought to vertical and until first crossbeam installed to hold sides stable I sealed all wood before assembly by using a roller. A couple bolts cross-threaded, but extra hardware provided, so no problems. Would buy product again.

No wonder this is a best seller. Well made. The posts are solid even though they have cedar panels on the outside and lots of 2x2s inside to make they solid. But you have to use your own judgement in using the manual to fit your own needs. I put up the basic frame first and keep making sure the 4 posts are perfectly straight before the next step. Also, DON'T screw in the 4 braces early, as they suggested in the manual, until the very last step. Because as you take a step to make one post straight, the other posts shift. As careful as I was to make sure I do the braces last, I still had to redo all posts! To lift up the entire structure to secure the post footing with concrete screws is unrealistic because by then the pergola is already too heavy. It is like a table already. Why would you fasten down an 600 lb dining table?

My fault on reading the size. I measured our old one from post to post which was 10x10. I ordered a 12x10 thinking that it was measured by post to post and not the overhang. So disappointed can’t return it and looks stupid on my deck. Never would I measure from over hang. Should be wear the footings need to be for the post.

This is a nice pergola but I am having difficulty getting my installation money back since they couldn’t come for over a month after I ordered and they don’t anchor it down; So what would be the point to have them build it. Wish me luck getting my installation fee back!

I bought two of the 10 x 12 pergolas with installation after seeing a friends. The company called within 4 or 5 days of purchase to schedule the installation. I didn't understand evidently that the measurement was from outside edge of the overhead rafters not the legs. I also didn't know that anchoring was not included in the initial installation. It turned out fine but for a while I was nervous that they would not fit. It is also probably better to anchor after the unit is set up since it's hard to gauge where the legs will be. The installation company can schedule for anchoring too at an additional charge.

Very nice-looking pergola! Assembly was a little tricky, but was accomplished in about six hours. There were a few aspects that we felt could have been better designed to make assembly easier and make the final product look cleaner/neater, but overall we were very happy with how wonderful it makes our patio look!

Overall I am satisfied with this product. I would have given 5 stars if the bolts and nuts would have been higher quality. They can be easily cross threaded if you are not careful. A few holes did not align on the short pieces but were fixed by drilling out a little. I would recommend this product and would buy it again.

We didn’t erect the pergola ourselves due to age and health issues, but our handyman Jake and his two teenage sons did.. they downloaded the app, and with enclosed instructions it went up in now time even on the hottest day in history in our town.. now it is ready for me to get out and get it ready for finishing touches. I shopped a lot of pergola kits and feel this one was a very good value. Assembly took about 7 hours with myself and my wife. Using the Bilt app on a tablet is highly recommended, since it's much easier when you can zoom in and rotate to see how parts go together. No issues whatsoever with holes lining up. The one problem we faced was getting the two end assemblies upright and connected together with the side rails. It would have been far easier with three people - two to support the end assemblies while the third person installed the side rails on top. The instructions don't give any tips. We managed, but it wasn't pretty! I also question how, once fully assembled, it's possible with two people to mark where the plastic feet should sit, move the pergola to anchor the feet and then put the pergola back in place. The pergola weighs 400 pounds. Our patio is shaded from the prevailing winds by the house, so we'll take our chances and not anchor it.
