I recommend the following: 1 - Use a power drill screwdriver with a No.2 Philips bit to assemble it. Set it for a torque (autostop) of "1" or "2" and drive a screw in until the drill reaches full torque and "tap-tap-taps." Then check the tightness with a hand-held Phillips screwdriver. If it is good and tight, keep that setting. If too loose, increase the torque to "3." You will be screwing in a lot of 1" black screws, and you want them all equally tight and fully seated. 2 - When the plastic sides and bottom are assembled, there will still be a small gap where the edges come together, maybe just enough to slip a piece of paper into. It's enough that maybe spiders, ants, etc. could make an entry. Also, it would allow driving rain, or a lawn sprinkler, to put water into the box and that could lead to mildew or mold. So I bought a tube of silicone sealant and ran a bead all around the edges on the inside, sealing the box watertight (I think it would float now). 3 - While the top has a decent overlap over the sides, I wanted a more weather/watertight/insect proof seal between the bottom box and the top lid. So I bought a roll of 1/2 inch wide, 1/8 inch thick self-adhesive backed foam insulation and applied it all around the top of the box. Now the lid closes and seals with no gap whatsoever. 4 - The floor of the box is not strong enough for firewood or other heavy items, unless you support the bottom -- under the center -- with shims. It's great for seat cushions, pool floaties, beach balls, etc. 5 - The lid likes to be lifted straight up, from the center, and lowered straight down. The hydraulic lift tubes that help lift the lid and hold it when it is up are located at the rear left and right edges of the box, and don't want to be twisted. 6 - Last comment: Position it where it will not be sitting in standing water.

These boxes are great for deck storage. We use them primarily for pillows and other deck items that need to put put out of sun and rain. They seem to hold up well over the years. I had another box (the smaller 99.99 box) which held up well for a dozen years or so -- no leaking and minimal fading -- but that was in Upstate New York weather and snow. My newest box is somewhat larger and hopefully will do as well, although we are now in Central Texas and the heat and rain might be more challenging for it. The first box came from Sam's Club fully assembled; the new one came in a "flat box" and needed to be put together. The directions for assembly were quite clear and almost impossible to have problems if you follow them.

This dock box is everything we wanted in outdoor storage for cushions, toys, basketballs etc. Spacious, waterproof, easy. Lid stays up when getting in or out. Has a thing that allows attaching of padlock. Sturdy and fairly easy to assemble for my husband.

This is a decent storage box. Sturdy enough, but not "rugged" so you wouldn't want to have a lot of weight pushing on the insides of the box, or i think the sides might bow out. You could not sit on it, but you could use for serving table space, and it is more than tall enough for that. Perfect for storing pool floats, life jackets, etc. The 230 gallon is tall, so if you're short, you may not be able to reach into the bottom of the. It is 100% water proof in the rain, as it has been through several very heavy downpours, and it has stayed dry inside, so you could store beach towels in it with no problem. It is light and easy to move around. One person can easily drag it (it's too bulky to lift for one person, two can do it very easily.) The black definitely gets HOT in the sun, but that is to be expected. This is a BIG box so be sure you have a place in mind for it. I would suggest somewhere at the back of your space and out of the way. We moved it 3 times before settling on a final spot becuase it was so big and just captivated the space. I should probably give this 5 stars becasue it suits our use perfectly, but I'm giving it 4 just because it is a little bit "not-rugged" -- I don't want to say flimsy, because it it not flimsy, it's pretty sturdy, just... ...not rugged! As far as the assembly, it was easy to put together if you are a practical person and can use the instructions as a guide. Be careful with the screws and using a power drill, it is easy to strip the threading of the plastic that they screw into.

This is a nice box. It came on time and was well packaged. Nothing broken or missing. We followed the instructions and it went together easily. The box itself is a large size. Our cushions and extra pillows fit perfectly. I gave it only 4 stars because I thought the plastic could have been thicker which would make the box more sturdy. It’s a little flimsy.

Purchased two of these to put all of our patio furniture cushions into. Turned out we only needed one and we have a lot of patio cushions. This thing is huge. It is definitely not your standard small size deck box that you would put pool chemicals or something small in. Three adults could hide inside of this thing it's so big. The lid appears fairly sturdy after you put it together but I would not sit on it like that show in the photos. The first one took about 1 hour to assemble and the second one took 25 minutes.

This manufacturer Keter also makes a 160-gallon box and I bought this after buying the smaller one. The 160-gallon box is very good and fits my need well. This box was not as polished - many edges were rough and had to be scraped smooth for effective handling. Fed-Ex delivered it in a very haphazard manner which left the box falling apart upon delivery.

Great storage box. It took about 2 hours to assemble, but the instructions were good. Only required a screwdriver to assemble. All the parts fit together very accurately and the completed box is very sturdy. Not sure if it's totally waterproof because we have it in an enclosed porch. It is attractive when completed. This box is huge and we are able to store our beach chairs and umbrellas in it, along with lots of beach toys.

Lid not as tight as needed to keep out rain. Has to bend the aluminum railing at latch side a little bit to get it to close. Also the ends needed adjusting to close at the corners but it still left a gap at the corners on the latch side of the box . It was Very easy to assemble the unit.

Very happy with the Keter 230-Gal Deck Box. We were able to store several metal trash can that we were storing charcoal, lump & briquettes, & wood chucks. Basically everything we need for BBQ's, starter chimneys, utensils, etc. that we use. Plenty of room for storage, and was easy to put together. The lid is very easy to raise, stays in place, & lower. Really cleaned up the patio.
