I was disappointed in the chicken pot pies from Marie Callen

Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie had nice chunk's of white chicken pieces but they seemed skimpy in all of the pot pies in my multi- pack. The carrots seemed a little tough and there wasn't very many vegetables throughout. The sauce had a good flavor. The crust seemed okay but was nicer when I baked it in the oven as the crust was flaky, however, when I made the pot pies in the microwave, the crust was often doughy on top and overdone underneath. The price seems too high for my experience

Disappointed

I had similar issues with the pot pies a couple years ago but I decided to give them a shot again because they were on sale. For being 16 ounce pot pies, these were remarkably light on the ingredients, and both of them has pieces of chicken that I could SWEAR had pieces of cartilage in them, and were impossible to chew. I spat them out and threw out the rest of the pot pies I'd bought. Never again.

Tasty but Soggy

Whether I use the oven or the microwave, the crust never fails to be soggy. I've not been able to unlock the secret to capturing the perfect crust. When it's done right tho, man it's so absolutely divine. Packed with flavor, these are definitely the best chicken pot pies I've ever tasted! It's so yum!! The chicken is the best chicken I've ever tasted in these type of dishes.

We're so glad you love them! Here are a couple tips from our Culinary team regarding the cooking of the crust. They suggest raising the pie off the bottom of the microwave while cooking by placing the carton and pie on an upside down microwave-safe plate. If you find the bottom crust of your pot pie is not getting done while cooking in the oven, we suggest you put the pot pie on a dark cookie sheet on the bottom rack of the oven. We also suggest covering the crimped edge with about a 1 inch strip of aluminum foil to prevent the top crust from burning. We hope this helps! Thanks for your review.

Tastes good but ads and photos misleading.

I buy the chicken pot pies a couple of times a month and they are better than others I've tried. However, they are lacking in filling. The ads show a pie filled to the top with chicken and vegetables and this is just not the case. I like the taste and I would give it 5 stars if there was more filling.

Bone in my chicken

So, years ago I hated this stuff because the chicken was full of fat, the meat really improved so I've been eating it regularly. I just had one though, and there was a small bone in a bite. Great food, love the gravy and peas and carrots but be careful when you're eating it.

Better than a restaurant pie?

Wow, impressed enough to come on to this site and review. Microwaved for 4 minutes, finished in a 400 oven for 7 minutes and it came out perfect! Flaky crust (has a bottom crust too!), crisp peas and carrots, and the chicken was of some of the best quality frozen chicken I've ever had! As long as these never change, I'll buy them!

Absolutely delicious and satisfying!

This is the first frozen chicken pot pie that I would unequivocally recommend. The crust is delicious, crispy, and flaky (if you follow the instructions for the "crisping wrapper" that comes with the pie.) The gravy sometimes bubbles over, but the wrapper is designed in such a way that it catches it -- no mess on your microwave floor. The chicken inside is chunks of chicken breast, period. Nothing weird, chewy, or unrecognizable. The carrots are slices of carrot, not miniscule cubes. The peas are, well, frozen peas are what they are. The gravy is chicken gravy, nice and thick and not "gluey" (i.e., not just cornstarch!) The pie as a whole is a nice size -- nicely deep, just about the right size for a meal for one person. (Maybe with another side if you are a big eater.) In short, I don't think I could make a better chicken pot pie if I made it myself from scratch. I'm completely impressed and will continue to buy these. You can't beat 10 minutes prep time!

Needs Some Work...

The flavor is savory and crust delish, but the dish needs some work. I've eaten these many times as a poor college student and they are good BUT PLEASE! Less sodium! And MORE VEGGIES! There are so few veggies in every type of pot pie I have tried :( also, some of the chicken bits in multiple pies have been gritty and, well, rather gross.... there is a way to make these healthier so I hope Marke Callender's takes that step.

These are like home made.

Nice that it comes in 2 sizes and is rich in vegetables and meat with just the right amount of gravy. When you make a fruit pie you want to be able to eat it with a fork. When I buy a pot pie I also want to eat it with a fork. These are Perfect!!!! I do not have to get a spoon to eat the tiny pieces, because yours do not have tiny pieces, and the gravy is not so runny you have to eat with a spoon. Also the chunks of chicken can be seen without a microscope...

No Chicky Chicky

I bought 5 of these pies the other day and WHA BAM! I ripped one open after getting home from work. After sticking my fork in it and sloshing it around, I realized there was really nothing but gravy. ONE piece of chicken. ONE. And very little vegetables. I ended up returning the other 4 and trashing it. Nasty soggy crust, too. I won't be buying anymore till the reviews say it's improved.
