Turbo Tax form 1041 for estate, federal and wiscon

It all worked to produce the return both federal and Wisconsin state. The 2 problems were: 1. The checks review for the state (WI) kept highlighting foreign state/provence but I filled in a US address completely and accurately. I was in an infinite loop and could not get any farther on the option to efile. 2. The software would also not allow me to file the WI return by mail even though our support guy says it is allowed.

needs some tweaks

Overall easy to use. Would be nice if you didn't have to always recheck boxes that you have done once before. Most of the time are yes/no answers. Also would be nice to have notes on the screen about max file size when attaching documents such as 8453 otherwise a file too large will cause an error during transmission

Usually great but very buggy 2024 update process

Normally I give you 5 stars but only 4 this year because of the bug filled update process which I've never experienced with this product before. Starting the program would force me through the update process which usually failed (after taking 5 to 10 minutes). Then I d'loaded the "superpatch" and ran that (which took another 5 minutes) and forced a restart of the program. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. For my last session completing the return, it literally took me an hour to successfully get through the update process and get back to working on my return. Very frustrating! Please fix whatever caused this before you release the next TurboTax for Business in 2025!

A few major short comings for TT Business

I used Turbo Tax Business, because I needed to file a 1041 & K-1 for a Trust from my deceased mother. I have been using TT premier since the day TT launched, so I'm very familiar with the software. I have found a big flaw in the business program when it comes to filing for a Trust. This trust was created in Florida, where my mother lived. I'm the Trustee and live in Virginia. The program only asks for the address of the Fiduciary, but not the Trust Creation State. The program automatically assumed I needed to file a Fiduciary Virginia state return, however, I know I do not and Florida doesn't require a return, since it is one of 7 no state tax states. The program should have a question as to what state the Trust was created in and then when it came to the State portion, it would prompt for the correct state tax return that needs to be filed, if at all. I knew enough not to file with Virginia. However, what about all the people who do not understand this? Lastly there should be a way to indicate somewhere on the 1041 or one of the attachments as to where the Trust was created. (I over rode the name on the 8453-FE, adding in parenthesis, "created in Florida". Also, I receive a 1099-R from the brokerage as the distribution. This was a pass-through distribution to my niece. So this is income to the Trust and then a distribution from the trust. It took a while to realize I needed to enter this as other income and list it as 1099-R. TT should have a way to enter the 1099-R information (or even upload it, like in the personal programs), so that all the information is properly presented.

Trusts unable to import 1099 - ARE YOU JOKING

Trusts unable to import 1099 from fin. institutions. This was not declared in the software's capabilities and were expected. The ability to import was reason I sought a major Tax software company. I was able to import 2023 1099 using a DIFFERENT COMPANY's PRODUCT, AND WILL USE THAT COMPANY NEXT YEAR.

Could use improvement for QDTs

Not optimum for a Qualified Disability Trust. QDT wasn't even a option to chose from as type of trust. Further, the software does not recognize that a QDT gets the personal income exemption, not the trust income exemption. Finally, the software allowed me to provide summary Form 8949 information, but did not produce a mailing (or even tell me where to mail) for the supporting documentation.

Known issue not addressed for years.

It is helpful and easy most of the time. But for one of the question, it asked if the person is US Citizen. It should've asked if its US Person. This misrepresented the person during tax filing eventually had to amend the returns. The worst part is the software doesn't allow to e-file the amended returns. We have to do it manually.

Not great handling 1099-R annuities and IRAs

I have used TurboTax for my individual and business returns for years and I am always satisfied, sometimes impressed. I needed to use this particular TT product to file a return for a trust created when a parent died. It was a simple return, with the only income being from 1099-INT bank interest and 1099-R annuity withdrawals. It seems crazy that TT doesn't have an online version to handle trust returns. I didn't need a desktop download capable of filing 5 business returns, but that is the only option. Additionally, it did not handle 1099-R input well. In fact, it never asked whether I had any 1099-R information to enter. I had to search the internet and TT chat groups to figure out a way to include the income and tax withholdings on the return. It was like stepping back decades in the functionality I have become accustomed to with TT. There should be a way to download 1099-R to the program as there is with other tax forms, and the program should know how to handle that information. 1099-R are very common for trusts, and there are complaints on the Intuit boards going back years about this very issue. After manually forcing the information into the forms, the rest of the process was good. In my case, I only had 3 tax documents to input, and only one of them was fully supported by the program. I expected better.

E-File Is Buggy

In general TurboTax Business - Desktop is easy to use. Uploading a PDF to e-file, however, was impossible. The Locate feature wouldn't show all folders nor all compatible file types. After trying several file types and lower resolutions, the files wouldn't show. I gave up and have to file by mail. Very inconvenient. What happened Intuit? This wasn't an issue in previous years.

Hard to amend business filings

Can't amend S corp return without calling help and then downloading desktop. Then no one explained that how to download and import the file from the live version. Customer support was very nice and supportive but she also did not know how to import the document. I finally figured it out myself.
