Other factors, such as the age of a toilet, can also affect its performance. The internal parts in the tank begin to wear out after only a few years and may need to be replaced to restore strong flush performance. (Pro tip: if you have to hold down the flush handle to get a good flush, that's one symptom of worn toilet tank parts.)
