Snowblower

I have had the opportunity to use only once on minimum snow fall. Haven't had the opportunity to try it on a snowfall of over an inch. Worked well on the walkway and with the drifting on the driveway and walk. what snowplowing I've done, the SnowJoe lives up to its name. Easy to assemble with easy to read instructions. I may have given it a 5 if I had more than one opportunity, especially if it worked as well as it has.

Seems iffy to me

I just got this assembled. There's no telling when I'll get to try it out in snow—next week or next year. But I do have strong opinions about the assembly, so I'll go ahead and review it on that basis. It was a time-consuming pain to put together. I know it's supposed to be easy to assemble, and conceptually it is. And it's not like I've never done assembly before, or have trouble following written directions. But when you're an older woman who doesn't have great eyesight and hand strength, it can be a problem! You have to line up holes, some of which are very small. Some of the handle pieces fit together tightly, and I got bitten trying to fit them together in one instance. Attaching the lower part of the crank to the base unit was almost impossible. This is done with a cotter pin, not unlike a bobby pin, but VERY tight and hard for me to spread, and the holes I had to align to get it in were small. I finally used a real bobby pin to align the holes, and then with God's help somehow managed to force the cotter pin into place. The weak point is the joint between the lower chute and the base unit. You fit it into a collar and align it, turn it to lock it, then put in a small screw to secure it at the back. Not so simple. It took me awhile to get it to lock properly because the lips of the plastic parts were so small. Then when I got that done and got the top of the chute screwed on, I found the front of the lower part of the chute had come loose, so I had to unscrew it and reattach it. I have to wonder if it's going to withstand the pressure of the snow coming out of it. I really think it should have at least one more screw, in front, to ensure it stays in place. The written instructions weren't fully accurate. There isn't a diagram that shows and labels all the parts. I almost missed the little screw for the chute. Some of the diagrams were so detailed—“busy”—that it was hard to tell exactly what I was supposed to be looking at. It also seems the instructions weren't updated to reflect manufacturing changes, so there were errors.

No more shoveling snow!

Ordering was easy; great price and free shipping; delivery was one day less than expected. I bought Snow Joe Ultra for clearing sidewalk and paths to my bird feeders and the oil fill pipe. It will also be used to clear 3-4 feet of snow from in front of garage doors to make plowing easier for hubby. Assembly of Snow Joe was easy up to point of inserting cotter pin into the holes of the Lower Crank Rod and opening at the back of the Housing - had to ask a neighbor for help with this. He did not have an easy time, but finally got the pin in place. Once fully assembled, I used it for the first time blowing approximately five inches of ice-crusted snow, and the Snow Joe met all of my expectations. Its light weight made it easy to handle going forward and backwards. Using my Snow Joe sure will be easier on my back than shoveling!

Snow Joe Electric Single Stage Snow Thrower 18 in

Simple to use and works well. Actually works better with a couple of inches of snow than with just a light dusting. Cleans closer to the surface than my gas powered snow blower. Battery powered would be more convenient, but I laid out the cord first and did the driveway from side to side instead of longitudinally, so the cord never got in the way.

I love this little snowblower!

We live in central MN and have never had a snowblower before. I am a 65 yr old female. I had intended to buy the next larger (15 amp?) style, but ordered the 13 by mistake. My apron is 24' wide by 30 feet long. Starting in the middle, the blower blows the snow about 9 feet, so not all the way to the edge (12' away), but that has not been a problem. It just adds a little extra snow the last few passes. It takes me 12 min. to do the apron. We had a 12" snowfall right after we bought this and I went out 4 times to do a little at a time. Then, a week later we had 5" more. The blower handled it just fine. The machine is light enough for me to lift and put in and out of the back of the SUV. After the 5" snow I took the blower and did my parents' sidewalk and my 70 year old neighbor's. My 91 year old dad said "We have to get one!" Mom said, "No we don't, our daughter has one!" Only regret is that I didn't get the larger amp style I intended to get.....

Beats a shove

Not had a lot of time to use the blower since we only got a couple of snows since receiving the blower. Worked very well the first fluffy snow (about 4”) but the second snow (about 3”) of wet snow which got into the spout mechanism and jammed it up toward the end. I couldn't change the spout direction. Took it to the heated shop and thawed it out and sprayed it with WD but haven't had any snow since so I don't know if that will correct the shoot from freezing. Other than that the unit works great.

Light use in Ottawa

Bought this product for light use in Ottawa ( ie walkway and backyard paths for 2 dogs). It has worked so well in this capacity. The machine clears up to 4-5 inches of snow with no problems. While the cord can be a pain, for the uses I am using it for it was an excellent purchase. Well done Snow Joe.

excellent snow thrower

used for the first time on my deck. had 5-6" of wet, fairly compacted snow and this little guy buzzed right through it effortlessly. I was impressed by the throw distance coming from the chute. Glad I bought it and the price for value is excellent.

I used the Snow Joe once this year. Where I live we don't get much snow (I live on Vancouver Island B.C. Canada. This is good for light snow but you need to keep it up as when the snow is heavy it doesn't work that well....with that being said I like using it, its easy to operate.

Easy to assemble

My son put it together in less than an hour. I recieved this at the beginning of November and as Murphys Law does its job..we have had no snow since. Soo, I cannot at this time review how it actually works. I can say as a 66 year old it does appear to be easy to lift.
