Soil Consistency

I purchased two bags a couple weeks ago and the soil was mostly wood shavings with very little peat and soil. I purchased another bag more recently and it's back to normal I do really like this soil but the consistency or quality control may have issues.

I normally use Miracle Gro Moisture Control Potting Soil, which Sam's Club has carried in the past. Since it wasn't available at my Sam's Club location, I thought I would try this potting soil. The majority of my potted plants are doing poorly this year, and I am wondering if it is attributable to this soil? I have 40 plus years of gardening experience and have rarely had the disappointing results that I have had this year.

Doesn't Support Healthy Growth

This seems like a good value, but there are a lot of wood pieces and I bought a lot of bags for large pots of my cannas this year to save some money instead of using Miracle-Gro. All of my pots with the Canna tubers that I had saved from last year and planted this year are very stunted and do not look anything like previous years. Their leaves are stunted and not growing vigorously. It seems as if some of the nitrogen is getting tied up in the soil with the wood chips and so the plants cannot thrive as before.

very inconsistent quality

inconsistent. I purchased three bags at different times. The first bag was amazing, my plants are large and beautiful. The second bag I purchased I noticed a lot of mulchi chips in there and those flowers look less healthy. The third bag that I bought you could pick the entire bag up with two fingers. it was so lightweight, and when I opened it it's nothing but tree shavings lightweight sawdust is basically what it is. nothing's going to grow in that. I'm not sure what's going on but it is definitely not consistent and when you go to purchase it, the lighter the bag the worse the soil. I've added pictures in the order of bag, one, two, three.

Deceived

Bought two bags using curb side pick up. When unloading from my car I noticed a significant weight difference between the two bags. The heavier bag is typical soil. The lightweight bag is shredded leaves. Buyer beware. Unable to upload photos due to network error.

Worst potting soil ever

This is the WORST!! I have bought my potting soil from Sam's Club every year for at least 5 years but this has changed. It's THE worst potting soil I've ever used. It's been 4-6 weeks and most of my plants are struggling, I'm an avid gardener, plenty of experience, and I'll never buy this again.

Worst soil I've ever bought

I spent a lot to fill my new pots with this soil and now, when my flowers should be in full bloom I'm having to dump the pots and start over with Miracle Grow. It was like planting flowers in mulch only it cost as much as quality potting soil! Don't waste your money.

Not a good product.

I have been a Sam's member for 31 years. I appreciate that they sell good products at a good price. This is not one of them. Very woody. Practically mulch. Things grow sort of OK in it but definitely not great. It certainly doesn't look like soil. Telling me it's "soil less" isn't something I care about. I will not buy this item again! They used to sell Miracle Gro potting mix that was much much better. It was what I wanted this year but it was not offered. Bring back the Miracle Gro product!

First purchase great but second purchase was awful

I bought several bags earlier this spring and I was very satisfied with the potting soil. When I went back to get another bag a few weeks ago, I was shocked at what I got. The bag was very light, so light that I could pick it up with one hand. I thought it was just dried out from sitting outside. When I got it home and opened the bag, I realized why it was light. It is more like pine shavings than potting soil. There is nothing in it to retain moisture.

terrible, almost all wood chips. Really disappointed that they no longer carry the miracle gro potting mix but they sell this far inferior product
