Short-lived furniture

I have purchased 6 of these chairs. They look fine but they are cheap (I know $399). They're not going to last long and will not survive children. 1.) the flip up arm rests are easily broken and a challenge to repair. 2.) the motor control is easily tripped and requires reset (I definitely own a couple of chairs that are more of a problem than the others). This is REALLY aggravating as you have to crawl behind and unplug each wired connection until the cup holders will light up again and then it will either trip again or will resume raising and lowering the chair back again (dielectric grease seems to help). They are designed for people who are 5'10” and shorter and arranging them side-by-side helps the armrests (which are a little tall and could be better padded). I cannot recommend these for daily use but they're ok for a budget media room.

Terrible construction

Own less then four months and o my used by my husband. For weeks now there has been a popping and cracking noise and then last night it made a big crack and the back fell completely backwards. Upon inspection the wood connecting the back to metals arms has completely splintered and broken on both sides. Don't waste your money! Also will not allow me to upload a photo.

Don't waste your time and money

I wanted to try this particular power recliner because I trusted (past tense) the same Serta, and the price was right. When it arrived, I was initially pleased with the fit, finish, and function. However, after only a few days, while leaning back, I heard a pop. Then, a couple of days later, the back just fell off of the base with me along with it. For the consumer: Don't buy. The company has decided to use cheap plywood for components that should have been metal, namely the mounts that hold the female rails that allow connection to - and disconnection from - the male rails on the base, which are both made of metal. For Serta: Very poor design. If you wanted to save money, eliminate the gas springs from the arm rests, and use that to buy metal to reinforce the plywood "legs," as we shall call them, which are glued and stapled to the rest of the top-half framework. Many staples pierced the edge below the gusset, and the nuts used to mount the rails to the legs seem to have been overtightened and contributed to the failure. Both of these issues as well as both fissures all lied in the same plane, which would be parallel to the floor if the seat were in a completely vertical position. (I am less than 200lb)

Buyer Beware

I bought this recliner in Jan/Feb of this year for my husband who is disabled. Needless to say it was the worst investment I made. The chair was hardly used and is falling apart. The motor is loud, the foam and wood underneath the chair is hanging down when the chair is in a reclining position. The recliner has now been put in the garage for it is to dangerous for my husband to use due to his diasabilies. I never write reviews on products but I must say on this particular one, Buyer Beware. Please note I still love Sam's Club and have been a loyal Business customer for a very long time !!

Verified Purchase

Design flaw

Purchased 2 brown Serta home theater power recliners. Both have same issue. The brackets that attach the back to the seat are in wrong place. The back sits too far to the right. So, there is a gap on the left. And the right side is tight. The right side rubs when you open the recliners.

Bonded leather

I almost purchased two of these. They're so comfortable! And the design and features are great Thank God I didn't. Bonded leather products usually only last a few years before they start pealing. If you want something that will last a decade, this is not it. Sams club should really sell these with fabric upholstery instead.

Cheap cheap cheap

We bought two of these less than 6 months ago and loved them for about 3 months then they quickly started falling apart and now they have both broken down and won't recline properly or go back to fully down. Absolute 100% TRASH! Do not buy these chairs!

Great chair, near perfect.

Chair is really nice for the price! I am very heavy and the chair fits well and is sturdy. The seat width is very generous. I don't mind the controls being on the inside since the seat is so wide. I actually prefer it now because it's easy to get to. Seat is padded nicely and comfy. Recline feature for footrest and headrest are great. Cup holders are nice and easy to clean. The armrest storage is nice with plug options. The faux leather is nice quality. No odd smells or texture. Overall really great chair for the price. Would buy again. Only cons for me: 1)The armrests are a little short. My arms hang over onto the cup holder area but that isn't a dealbreaker for me. Plus I end up putting my hands on my big belly most of the time. 2) I am 5'3” and the headrest hits me at a weird angle when I adjust it. I can find a comfortable spot but sometimes I do have to play with the settings to find the best spot. Sometimes I just use a little pillow instead of the adjustable headrest which works great. 3)One armrest storage cover was damaged when delivered. It still worked but wasn't on straight. Sams club was great in offering me a free return or a percentage off for the trouble. Ended up keeping it because it wasn't a huge deal to me. Overall, great chair!
