Good stand while waiting on Weber
We looked at several grills to replace our 15-20 year old grill that I've kept limping along until this year. After looking at several options out there we decided on this one as a fill in till we can get a Weber with the features we want. It's obviously cheaply built (Chinese junk), and as another reviewer noted the very first part that you put together does not fit correctly, it gets better after that, but assembly is a very time consuming job. After assembly we tested the gas portion of the grill and I was really impressed with the flame quality and ignition time. I've used the charcoal side three times since. It cooks very quickly even with the coals at the bottom and the dampers shut. I think the smoker option allows too much air into the grill to really have any control over heat, so I just use less charcoal when grilling, not a bad thing. The charcoal tray grate is already sagging in the middle and the paint is starting burn away/peel from the bottom of it. The gas side of the grill is hotter in the front, which seems to be the norm, but it's not terrible. My last grill was $600 and it had horrible inconsistencies in heating everywhere. I have not tried the smoker box, I own an electric smoker, and after trying my hand at charcoal smoking on a different grill, this feature will probably not see any use? I also have not used the seer burner other than to test its operation, plan is to trade it out for a side burner. Sam's doesn't carry a cover large enough for this grill, we picked one up at HD. As cheaply as this grill is made, I think it's a wise investment. We initially said if we got through the season with this grill we would upgrade in the winter when grills are cheaper, but so far I'm enjoying this grill and who knows it may surprise us and last two seasons?
Doesnt hold up for even a year
After having this grill for 6 months all of the inside of the handles melted which meant you cant turn the burners on and off properly which if you dont turn off your propane tank gas will leak out. Then after 9 months the outside paint above the handles started peeling. We couldnt find a cover big enough in stores for it and the one Sam's carried ripped due to size. Now after almost a year the igniter cables look like they've caught fire and fell out of the holes. Extremely sad with this purchase seeing as how the gas grill we bought from walmart before this one had lasted us 3 years with no defects other than needing new tube burners for gas flow.
Hate this smoker
Worst smoker/ grill I've ever owned. After the 3rd/4th use 2 of the burners wouldn't light anymore. The smoker box Ann's skillet side doesn't get to the correct temperature to smoke meats and black coating burnt 1st time we used it so now it's rusting in that area. Will NEVER buy one of these again.
Great combo grill
I bought a couple months ago and have used both sides at 3 times and once together so far so good gas grill gets really hot only thing I've found that I dont like is there is a gap between all the lids to let the heat out but I'm in the process of sealing them all up overall very pleased with this grill for the price!!!
Piece of junk
This Grill was purchased for my birthday. I was excited to get a grill that offered so much. Gas, searing burner, charcoal, and smoker. As with other reviews it was a pain in the butt to assemble. Once I used it it was great. However after about three to four uses there were problems. Rust starting to form.
Very Nice
My wife and me put it together in the living room, took about 4.5 hours but we stopped for a couple of breaks. Directions are very good, no issues, great grill, its under our 15x40 covered patio, but would still like to have a cover for it and don't see one anywhere for it on the site.
Bought this grill last month
The grill is decent, but I used the third party assembly people to put it together. Do not do this. They took a week to show up. The searer was not installed properly and does not work. One of the burners stopped lighting the second time we used it (all four burners only light from the ignition - they will not light the adjacent one). The third party assembly company took no responsibility when contacted and referred me to the manufacturer.
Good performance, easy to assemble.
First, the box says Team Lift, believe it because it is heavy! But with that said some of the best assembly instruction of all time. Took about two hours and with any mechanical ability pretty much a breeze to put together. 'Seasoned' the chamber for about an hour with charcoal and did the first smoke. Awesome! Plenty of adjustable vents to regulate heat and smoke. Envy of the neighborhood now, expecting to see more show up soon around the 'burbs'.
All looks, no performance, and no customer support
Just put this together last weekend. Out of the box, the stainless steel handles are rusted. Front panel was all bent up and had a boot mark on it - still in the plastic. Somebody at Smoke Hollow thought it was good enough to put in the plastic bag and sell. Called the 800 number, the message tells you to go online and then hangs up on you. Go online and fill out their form, nobody gets back to you (one week so far). Decided to smoke some ribs today anyway. The lid on the firebox and charcoal grill do not seal. All my smoke (and heat) was pouring out of every crack and crevice - very little made it to the chimney. I couldn't get the heat above 150 degrees (80+ degrees outside and sunny). The LP side was 125 degrees just from the sun - not even turned on. Had to bring the ribs in the house to finish cooking them. Sam's Club - if you're reading this - you need to drop this vendor. They really make you look bad. It's going to be a pain to return it because of the size, but if i have to drag it behind my car - this is going back!!!
Rusted quickly with regular maintenance
I was beyond elated to receive this grill and the $60 custom cover as a gift from a friend. All functions performed well ... gas grill, charcoal griller, smoker box, gas burner. For ease, I used the gas grill more often than any other function. First, the burner tents on started to fall apart. It appeared as though it was from rust. When the grease tray / cleanout tray started to rust, I was unable to use the gas side at all. I rarely even used the charcoal grill. After using it less than 5 times, the charcoal tray failed completely and disintegrated to the cleanout tray. I was absolutely blown away. So now I am forced to buy another grill after less than 30 total uses. The grill started to rust from the inside out. Strange since that's where the most maintenance was occurring. The cast iron cooking grates for both the gas and charcoal grills are in excellent condition. The wood grate in the smoker box has never been used but is rusted. I was also disappointed by the $60 cover. It took a beating from the TX sun and fell apart in about 13 months. I purchased a cheaper one and it lasted a little longer, but not much.
