This is my second year with the patio lantern and I just love it! It works! This year I have to have it on to keep the mosquitos away from the door on my porch. I just wish I could purchase the mats separately. seems the mats go faster than the cartridges.

I live in Louisiana and spend a lot of evenings outdoors. I have tried so many different products to repel mosquitoes and bugs in general. Everything from the tennis racket looking zapper, candles, big bug zappers, tiki torches with bug repellent oil, plants. Everything! I saw this lantern and thought I would give it a try and if it didn’t work I would at least still have a new lantern. Well, let me tell you, this light weight lantern/repellent packs a big punch! I love it and it is one of my favorite things that I own!! IT WORKS SO WELL!! NOT ONE MOSQUITO BITE LAST SPRING OR SUMMER!! Plus it keeps spiders, June Bugs and other bugs away from the area. I love this product and highly recommend it!!! The lantern comes in handy as well. I have used it much more than I thought I would.

Super happy with Thermacell! Have been using these products for three years in the yard and out camping. Just bount the Patio Shield and used it last week gardening. Took a chance and didn't put on repellent for the black flies. Did get a couple of bites, but it was more effective than the repellant. Love having the ability to hang the lantern off things.

I read reviews on theses on Cabellas.com last year and purchased 4 for a camping trip based on those reviews. We did not get a single bite the entire time they were lit. We used them again for a BBQ in July and our yard is notorious for gnat swarms in the evening, these kept everything away. I can't wait to use them again this summer, these thing are WELL worth the money.

I am a mosquito magnet and am constantly in search of something to help me enjoy being outside without having to douse myself with bug spray. We purchased the patio lantern and couldn't be happier. Once the lantern heats up the mosquitos are gone and they stay away for hours. Now I can enjoy being on my deck without layers of bug spray and itchy bumps the next day. Although not expecting 100% effectiveness, that’s exactly what we got! We have a raised deck with an enclosed bottom — most likely allowing puddles underneath for breeding mosquitoes (rental property). With both common North American mosquitoes that come out at dawn and dusk, as well as Asian mosquitoes (? black and white striped) that come out all hours of the day and night, it’s almost not worth going out to the deck. But since using our lantern, we have not had a single bite. Considering that we normally average 20-50 bites per person in a 30 minute period — that’s an amazing effectiveness rating. We’ve noticed that even when the heat element isn’t on but the repellent pad is exposed to the sun, we still do not get bites as long as the pad is blue. Can’t say this product will be as effective for everyone but it is awesome for us! Note: used during stationary or minimal movement use (mostly sitting on the deck approx. 16’x14’ with frequent trips in and out of the house

I used the OFF brand mosquito lanterns for several years. When the product started being discontinued and it was pricey and difficult to get refills, I did an Internet search for another lantern that used the SAME chemical in the wick -- since that had always been the ONLY mosquito control that ever worked for us, the same as used by the US government to protect troops in mosquito-ridden areas. Luckily I was able to find a new supplier in these Thermacell Patio lanterns, using the same chemical in the wicks and a slightly different lantern technology. I was pleased with the new lanterns and also with the fact that my new supplier is a strong company that is unlikely to discontinue a popular product.

The plague is over! We tried everything to repel those biting girls - burned so many citronella candles you could see us from space; slathered ourselves in "natural" repellent ("natural" meaning the mosquitoes know they won't get hurt if they bite you); etc - all to no avail. We read numerous on-line reviews all of which touted Thermacell as the only viable option. What was there to lose? Not being seen from space? So we got two and put them on our deck. Voila! No bites, no annoying buzz (other than what we were drinking) and peace, at last, to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Our deck is large so we bought two lanterns and set them on either end. It does help to set them up half an hour or so prior to going out. NASA, you can take us off your radar because we'll be sitting back and enjoying our nightly cocktails in peace. Bought this for camping and it stopped working. Put in new batteries and new pad at the top but it’s neither of those things. Basically the button that lights the pad no longer works which is the whole point so now it’s just an expensive lantern. Not happy with this at all.

I have used thermecelll product backpacking and camping - great. Those product weren’t perfect for my new front porch. I ordered the lantern with the expectation that I would my deep woods protection on the home front - it worked great and it’s pretty.
