I am originally from San Francisco CA, so I ate sourdough all my life. This is a very excellent with a distinctive sour flavor. I like it so much I now use it for all my sandwiches and toast.

This bread is good and fresh

My family really loves the taste of real sourdough-I use more of this bread than any other. We eat it for nearly every meal; for breakfast it makes wonderful French toast. For lunch grilled cheese or tuna sandwiches on sourdough toast delights my family. And, for dinner sourdough garlic bread with a saucy Italian casserole or a bowl of stew cannot be beaten. San Luis Sourdough, specifically, has the hearty flavor, the perfect texture, and makes a lovely presentation at mealtime.

This bread has a marvelous flavor, but it probably isn't a good value without a date code to spot OLD BREAD. We bought a twin-pack of the San Luis Sourdough Deli bread at Sam's in Riverside, and two days later the bread was turning moldy. Even the unopened loaf went bad. It all went in the trash. There is no preservative in the bread, so unless there's a date code to you can be sure the bread is fresh, you may wind up throwing most of it away. We couldn't find a date code, so you're pretty much on your own here--you don't know how old it is when you buy it. We won't buy it any more--it's overpriced when you consider how little of it you may get to enjoy.

I was so excited to see this brand of bread here at such a great price for two loaves but the first package I purchased grew mold quickly even though we go through bread fast. I decided to give it another chance and bought another package but this package was dried out.
