Excellent Filet's

We purchased these hoping they would just be tender and not have a lot of grissel. Wow, they exceeded our expectations. These are restaurant quality, tender and full of flavor. No chewy bites either. Will buy again.

Found a fingernail in the meat

It was all good until there was part of a fingernail found in the meat. I was the only one in the family that prepared the steaks and I was not missing the end of a nail

Lots of fat to trim.

Very low quality cut with a lot of fat and silver skin that required a lot of trimming. Some of the hard fat was in the middle and could not be trimmed. Sadly those trimmings are included in the price. Sam’s butchers must me giving the better pieces to local restaurants.

Definitely not Prime - reopen the Butcher Counter!

We used to routinely come and purchase steaks from the butcher counter at the Sam’s Club at Arroyo Crossing in Las Vegas. In the past few weeks, they have closed the butcher counter, and instead are directing customers to purchase the prepackaged steaks. The filet, which we had always enjoyed, has taken a significant downhill turn. It is no longer Prime Beef, although it is being sold for the same price. You also are now required to purchase four steaks instead of being able to individually select your steaks. These most recent steaks were more similar in quality to sirloin, and the flavor and marbling were nowhere near what we have come to expect. We will not be purchasing any further steaks from Sam’s at Arroyo Crossing in Las Vegas until the Butcher Counter is reopened.

Poor Packaging - Ends Full of Grizzle

I enjoy these steaks, and I think they taste great. My problem is that Sam’s Club always packages two nice size steaks and two end pieces full of grizzle. Every single package is like this. You can’t even buy one package to serve four people. I would like them to package four equal size steaks. Based on the fact that I can only serve two of the steaks to guests then the price per pound isn’t much of a bargain.

Quality slipping and trimming still a problem

Have regularly purchased this item for more than a decade. For some unexplainable reason the taste has deteriorated. Taste is subjective but there seems to be a more “gamey” quality. Secondly, the ongoing failure to properly trim runs counter to what is generally regarded as “fillet”. My second last purchase of this item had 7% (food scale measured) fat as well as smaller pieces attached but not butcher removed sections that are classified “fillet”.

Pricey But Worthy

The quality and overall satisfaction of this product comes down to customer choice. Look for good marbling and invest the time and effort in to cooking them right and you won't be disappointed. Much more expensive than it used to be, but then again what isn't overinflated and overpriced these days.

No flavor

This isn’t the first time we’ve bought meat at Sam’s. And usually it’s very good. But this particular time, the meat was flavorless. We did everything like we always have and the meat had no flavor - you could taste the seasoning but not the meat. Weird. How is this possible. Not good

Filet mignon/tenderloin poor quality

We purchase filet mignon/tenderloin regularly and over the past several months the quality has been terrible. You should not have to trim 1/2 lb of fat/lining off of an approx 2 lb pkg at 23.98 lb, and this has become the norm. This type of steak is supposed to be already trimmed out, unlike ribeye which always has fat and why I don’t buy it.

Spoiled Meat

This is the second time we have purchased the beef tenderloin and had to return it because it was spoiled. When we arrived home, we detected that the meat had a foul odor and returned it immediately. Additionally.... We have noticed recently that the quality of the meat at the Clearwater, FL club is declining. We are no longer comfortable purchasing meat there.
